    NYE 2019 surgery date twin?

I'm as ready as I think I can be 😕 I have a little more food prep I am going to do today and tomorrow (putting together some 2 oz servings of things like greek yogurt, etc...). But mentally and physically I think I'm as ready as I can be. I'm getting nervous though and almost wish I had more to keep me busy over the next two days. How about you? Are you ready? Feeling nervous or excited or...? Lori
  2. I'm getting pretty nervous. My house is clean, I finished up with work, and I've done all my shopping. I even cleaned out the fridge and freezer so I don't have anything I shouldn't have in the house. I have a couple more things to do around the house over the next 2 days and I will do some food prep over the next couple of days (not a ton to do, just putting some greek yogurt, SF Jello, broth in 2 oz cups, etc... ) It would be much easier if I could just keep busy. How are you all feeling? Lori

    NYE 2019 surgery date twin?

    What if it doesn't work?

My surgery is Dec 31st (2 days - yikes!) and I keep having the same thoughts and fears. What if... what if I am the weird exception that doesn't lose weight? Or, what if I lose it, but gain it all back. I'm grateful to all of the veterans here for sharing their stories. I've done a ton of research and have to trust that the metabolic aspects of the surgery will work. And, as everyone says, if I do my part to rewrite my habits and patterns it will work long term. I've started looking for a local therapist with food addiction experience and hopefully that with the surgery will help me get where I need to be. Lori
  5. My surgery is in Northern California and Kaiser Fremont. My surgeon isn't requiring a liquid diet pre-surgery. He did make me lose weight before he would approve surgery, and I'm down almost 40 lbs since starting in July. I am going to try to be really good this week and avoid anything that might inflame the liver (no caffeine, alcohol, sweets, etc...) and my goal is to drink 100+ oz water today.
  6. I'm also having surgery on the 31st! RNY. Good luck!

    December Surgery dates???

I had my pre-op appointment on Friday and I do not have to do a liquid diet which I am excited about. I admit the last week or so I've been pretty bad eating foods because I didn't think I'd be able to again (I fully expected my doctor to put me on liquids at my pre-op). However, I know I need to buckle down and be good for the next 10 days. Otherwise, I think it'll be even harder after the surgery. Goals between now & surgery: - Vitamins every day - 90+ oz fluid everyday - 80-90 G Protein everyday - Eat on track. I will allow myself 2 meals that aren't on track with my favorite foods I won't be able to have for a while. Indian and mexican.
  8. I'm scheduled for Dec 31. I was hoping for mid-December but have decided the date is meant to be and I can start the new decade with my new tool. Talk about a new years resolution ~Lori

    December Surgery dates???

Congratulations to everyone who has had their surgery and I hope you continue to recover quickly and completely! I appreciate you sharing your experiences for those of us that are coming up soon! Lori
  10. I was traveling this last week for Thanksgiving and was really nervous about the scale this morning. However, it looks like the good choices I made while traveling leveled out the bad since I have a small (.4 lb) loss for the week! I was fully expecting a gain so woohoo!
  11. congrats - thats a major NSV and a great goal! I went 1 time about 10 years ago and it is terrifying and exhilarating. Hope you love it!

    December Surgery dates???

I'm scheduled for Dec 31st RNY in Kaiser Fremont (Nor Cal). Anyone else on the 31st?

    December Surgery dates???

Which Dr and which office? I'm scheduled with Dr Hahn. I haven't had my pre-op appt yet (it's in a couple weeks) but my surgeon let me know he would likely put me on a liquid diet... Hoping that's not the case but planning for it.
  14. I had my psych appt today and she indicated no concerns. Met with the nurse and all medical tests are done and good. Now back to the surgeon to sign off and then schedule. They told me it could take up to 2 weeks to hear back but an early December appt is likely. Anyone else looking at first or second week of December? Lori
  15. I am starting to think about my post op diet and I'm curious if anyone mixed protein into your SF jello and if it still set? I have Isopure unflavored protein so I could do any flavor. If not, I'll give it a test. BUt if you have and it failed would be good to know. Thanks, Lori
  16. Congrats and fingers crossed all goes smoothly with your final approval!
  17. My surgeon wanted the band out for at least 3 months before they would do bypass. I had the band out in August and feel SO much better - I was completely unfilled for the last 2 years but still had heartburn and days where I could barely swallow water. Other days I was fine and all of that is now gone. My RNY is scheduled for Dec 31.
  18. I am scheduled for surgery on Dec 31st (yay!). As part of my pre-op regiment I had to lose almost 30 lbs which I did. Now that my surgery is scheduled, I've found it much harder to stick with my pre-op diet. If I gain any weight between now and my pre-op appointment or surgery the Dr. will cancel. And becuase between now and then is Thanksgiving and Christmas I already see it being a challenge. Any tricks that have helped you stay on track? Any healthy "treat" recipes you can share? Thanks in advance, Lori

    Anyone In Northern Cali?

Hi StrongButterfly, I am a pre-op Kaiser patient in Nor Cal out of the Fremont office and I just got my date (12/31). The process at Fremont at least is: 1) orientation: A group session where you hear from a surgeon, phsycologist and nutritionist. Kind of Bariatric 1:1 2) consult with a surgeon: You can pick one in the office or they can fit you in with whoever has an appointment at a time that works for you. 3) Surgeon talks to you about surgery choices (Sleeve or Bypass), why you are interested, risks, etc... They also set a pre-surgery weight loss goal. They may also ask you to do some tests (blood, EKG, etc....) 3a) Same day you meet with a nutritionist who talks to you about what the diet will be, etc.... 4) Each month you need to call in and report your weight. When you are 5 lbs from goal you need to go into a clinic to make it official, then call and schedule an appointment with the psychologist 5) Talk to the psychologist and same day nurse. Nurse may assign some additional tests. Assuming both are good packet goes back to your surgeon. If they agree, scheduler calls you to schedule the surgery.

    Pre OP phase has begun

Wow, jealous of the fresh coconut water --- the bottled stuff is just not the same.

    Pre OP phase has begun

May I ask what brand of coconut water you use? I've been looking but most seem pretty high in sugar. I really like the idea of moving away from artificial sweeteners . Follow up question: For those of you who have had RNY, how much sugar will cause dumping?

    December Surgery

Congrats all with December dates. Mine RNY is scheduled for Dec 31st, so I'll still my new year with some pretty obvious resolutions I will be on my pre-op diet during Christmas that will be OK.
  23. I'm pre-surgery - just got my date of 12/31/19 - but so far on my pre-op diet I've lost almost 35 lbs. However, I'm pretty tall and carry my weight fairly evenly so that hasn't resulted in much change in clothing size until just this last week. I have a large plastic storage bin I've been putting my too small clothes in because I was planning on losing weight. I went through it today and more than half of them fit My closet suddenly got much fuller - yay!

    Pre-surgery NSV

Good luck! I'll have to do a 2 week liver shrinking diet as well - not sure yet what that means for my surgeon but I'm hoping it's not just liquids. Please do let me know how your surgery goes! Sounds like you'll be a couple of weeks ahead of me.
