Hello it will take 6 months from your 1st consultation to your surgey date. There are many things you have to do within that time. Like, 6 month of working with a nutritianest, a psyciatiy consultation, perparing all your paper work. The 6 months will fly by, when I heard 6 months I started to cry. And the NP told me it will go by very fast. And it did, I had my surgey done back in OCT 26th 2009.
Don't give up!! It's all worth it !! I lost 130 pounds.. Best of luck to you...

Not to worrie cynthia c. You should be just fine.. throwing up is not somthing you want to do. this happens when you eat to fast or eat somthing that your band does not allow. Be very carfull with throwing up because you can come Potassium deficien. And this happen to me effects of low potassium put me in the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack. Low potassium has a lot of the same feelings of a heart attack, and the meds for it to bring the levels back. The pills are so huge they are like horse pills so I could only take the liquid and yuck, taste so nasty. Good luck to you..

Hello soccermom10. It's a new life for you now, and that means eating very differently.
I had no sorness after surgey, I was able to move around as normally, for 2 to 3 days I had gas pains. But all in all I was doing great and feeling great.
You have to give your stomoch time to heal. so that means eating soft foods and clear broth. 2 weeks for each - 2 weeks of clear & 2 weeks of mushy.
On your 4th week you can start to eat the foods that was told to you. They should of givning you a list of foods to eat. And a list of foods that you can not eat.
Remember everyone is very different what I can eat maybe you can not. I can eat rice with gravy over it, I can eat shrimp, I can eat white chicken that is not dry and very most. Gravy will become your best friend. LOL.. I have always been a cook and I do recipe of the day here for all. Look for my post or go to my blog and see some of the recipes and how to prepare them, I do low in calorie foods.
Do not for get your protien drinks.. VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU!!
I lived on clear broth for 2 weeks, then mushy foods for 2 more weeks so my new stomoch could heal.
Your band is there for life, and you will have to eat smaller bites and chew every thing well for the rest of your life. And after a while eating like a mouse we become 2nd nature to you, you will know longer look at like that, but as a way of life..
I'm 14 months into my Lap-Band.
This is my link to my blog .
All the best and good luck!

You do not have to tell anyone about your lap-band surgery. I only told a few family members, And 1 or 2 wonderful friends and of course my husband. And they all surport my in what I had to do for my self. I did this for me I was so unhappy with my weight that it was stoping me from living. I took my best friend with with to the semiar and she was 100% not for it. And told me that I was crazy to do it and gave me hell, well she and I are know longer friends not just because of this but for a few things she was saying and doing. So only my true friends know, the ones that really loves me for me and wants only the very best for me. And this was the best thing I could of done for my self, I have lost 121 pouns in 14 months I have only 10 more pounds to go befor I get to my GOAL. My surgery was done on Oct, 26th 2010. The weight does not come off over night because we now have the tool call The lap-Band, It is going to take a lot of heard work just like any other weight lost program or diet.
SO PICK AND CHOOSE WHO YOU TELL IT'S ALL UP TO YOU..
GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST!!!

I agree I do not like this new version either, it' very combursom to navigate around.
Some times the weight seams to slow down, then in a few days it just comes off by me doing the same things I have been doing. So now the scale is my friend, not my enemy.
Keep up all the great work that you are doing. LOVE IT!!

Hello Kelly do not be so hard on yourself. Your band sounds like it's not thigh enough. Give it some time to work. We all are so different, I only needed a 1/2 cc each time I went in for a fill, someone els needs 2cc ect... So you will fine what works for you. Also stay away from the carbonated drinks, walk more, eat more healthy snakes for those times when you are feeling hungry 100cal snacks are so good also, drink protein shakes. And before you know it that scale will make you smell again. Good luck and keep us posted.

Good luck on your up coming surgery. You will be in and out before you know it. All the best to you and congrats in becoming a Lap-Bander. I wish you well, keep us posted. LOVE IT!!

This is very common when your band is to thigh!! I know we use to think the tighter the better it is for us, but it's not. My first fill was to much and I had to have some taken out, I had a unfill, 2 times in my 1st year. So if you are throwing up a lot after eating, and you are eat small amounts, chewing your food well and waiting before every bite, then you need a unfill. Just have a small amount taken out loosen the band some. All the best and take care.

Hello juliecook people comment a lot here if they have a answer to a question. Or feel comfortable to give a suggestion. It maybe that when you are posting there maybe some that are new to the lap-band also. So for me I never had pain or a problem with my "port" am into to this Lap-Band now for about 1 year as of October 26th 2010. Some months I will have a little soreness but nothing to talk about. But if you are having lots of pain or soreness or any question about your port call you Dr. office talk to your NP, or your surgeon am sure they will help you. It maybe that you still need time to heal. Everyone is different. Am sure you will fine this blog very helpful in your journey. You will fine some wonderful people here and great inspiration, maybe some new friends as well. Looking forward to hearing how it all goes for you.. ALL THE BEST TO YOU..

The weight will come off, we hit a plateau and this will happen for a while this plateau. The scale will move for you. This has happen to me. What I do is, I go back to the basic once or twice a week, mushe foods, protein drinks, just like I did in the beginning. You may need to up your exercising a bit that will help the weight loss faster. All the best to you

Hello sunnydee you have to still watch the calories intake for sure, if not it will sneak back on you before you know it. The Dr's say you can have about 700 calories a day maybe a little more for some. I try to watch everything I eat to make sure the calorie intake is not to high. GOOD LUCK
