Starting the process

Welcome! You've come to the right place for band info. Everyone on here is nice and will answer any questions you have! Good Luck! Sheila
2. Hi Vessa! Thank you very much for the information. You sound very much like me. I hardly gained any weight until the 8th month, then bam! I was so swollen, my 7 pound Maltese would put paw print indentations in my thighs when he walked on my lap! I wouldn't think the stomach would swell as much as your face, extremeties, but you never know. Especially how some say they get tighter during their TOM. Do you plan on having another child? What did your doctor say to you about your risk of developing pre-eclampsia again??
3. Hi All! I spent all weekend on a crazy drinking/up to no good camping trip in Michigan's Upper Peninsula this weekend (Sunnysea - Fox Park about 1 mile east of Cedar River on M35). Anyway, minus a couple of cheesy poofs, I did really well foodwise! I got most of my protein in, kept my calories around 1,000 per day and I only had 1 lite beer and a Mike's Hard Lemonade Lite (only 96 calories) too! This band is awesome. I find that I really lose weight when I log my food on Fitday.com. (I did really well on Weight Watchers too, when I logged my food consistently). I really think a food journal is key! If it goes in my mouth, it goes in the journal! I'll even try to log something before I eat it, to see if it's really worth it or not. Here's to a good week, consistent journaling, exercise and another pound gone forever!

Port problem

Please see this post and let me know if you have any questions! http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f78/flipped-port-38826-post534332/#post534332
5. I just realized I am 1/2 way to "one-derland" 33 lbs lost, 32 to go! (plus another 40, but will worry about that when the time comes!)
6. Thanks Mark! That happened to me. I was at an IT User's Conference and they had this awesome welcome reception. Well, I just had to try a piece of sushi and well, that was it! Golf Ball!! I excused myself for the evening and went back to my room. Only all these other drunkards from the party got on the elevator, and we had to stop at EVERY floor!! I almost died!! It took everything I had not to PB on everyone! YUCK!
7. My fill is working well! I've lost another pound! Thank you for asking!:whoo:

Flipped Port

I had a flipped port repaired on 7/23. I requested local anthesthesia and my surgeon abliged - but he said that if it becomes too painful or something, they'll just put me under. As a result, they prepared me for a regular operation. He said he'd put me under if I wanted to, but I had to fly home that evening (from Denver to Wisconsin) and didn't want to feel all icky like the anthesthesia makes me feel. For the surgery, they used novacaine, just like at the dentist, and a vallium like drug. Probably a few others I don't remember.. Just before going in to the op room, they gave me some drug to relax. I was alert when we got in there, it was 11:08 on the clock. They asked me if I could move myself from the table I was on to the operating table, and I did. I then talked to them for a few minutes and fell asleep. I woke up on my own in the operating room as the surgeon was finishing. He told me he fixed my port and gave me a small fill. They asked me if I could move myself back to the other table to wheel me out, and I could. I got into the recovery room at 12:00. I slept off and on for about 1/2 an hour, got dressed by myself. They had me walk to a recovery chair, sit there for a bit, then I was done. We then went to IHOP for lunch and even ate a little bit. I felt totally fine the rest of the day and flew home no problems. I did have my sister there to drive me to the airport and chaparone me on the way home.. just incase. He went trough the same port incision, so scaring will be minimal. I took my bandage off in about 4 days. No issues. I was just a little tender in the incision area. Let me know if you have any questions. Sheila
9. Hey! I have a question regarding pre-eclampsia, pregnancy and the band. I had pre-ecampsia with my first pregnancy - I was not banded. Now I am banded and hubby and I are considering getting pregnant again. Have any of you discussed with your Dr.or experienced pre-eclampsia while pregnant with the band? If not, those of you that are preggers...could you ask your Dr about it next time you see him/her and let me know? I am curious as to their response... I got pretty swollen, and I am worried my band may get very (too) tight - even if unfilled, if I get pre-eclampsia again. btw.. I have an appt with a fetal/maternal medicine Dr. to discuss all of the other complications that could arrise with a pre-eclamptic pregnancy- banded or not.
10. This thread is funny... Growing up, a friend of mine's mother actually had a sign at their door. It asked you to "Please remove your shoes" in some catchy, crafty rhyme. Her house was IMMACULATE though, and I think she was OCD... My mother-in-law and sister-in-law are the same way too. Immaculate homes and OCD. No sign, but you are "expected" ro remove your shoes. Not as you enter the house, but before! They have a little chair, rug, etc. set up in the garage for you to sit down, take your shoes off and leave them there! I always take my shoes off when entering someone's house, unless they adamintaly tell me not too or it is someone I know who's house is dirty and my socks will end up all black on the bottom! I NEVER ask anyone to take their shoes off. If they start to, I tell them not too, but they ALWAYS do. I have a pretty clean house with light carpet though, so maybe that's why they feel they should - they don't want to unintentionally make a mess or something?? btw... I am an American in Wisconsin - so closer to Canada than others. Most I know DO take their shoes off. I don't know if it's 'cause 1/2 of the year we have snow to contend with and get used to taking them off (for the floor will get wet if we don't or what....) but that's my theory! =o)
11. JFK! You're a crazy typing fool!! tee hee!! That's great that you put your whole experience out there. It will be good for others. I am happy to hear everything went so well for you!
12. Oh, and they'll give you a patch to put behind your ear after surgery for nausea. You'll also get a prescription for anti-nausea suppositories, so that'a an option as well...yee haw! There is also an anti nausea medication that I had a Dr. prescribe for me at home here.(after surgery, I had the flu and didn't want to vomit) It's pretty expensive - like $40.00 for 5 pills - after insurance pays their share. But they disolve under your tounge and work well!
13. You're welcome! I can't believe how awesome it's become!
14. I had an excellent recovery, but I would still recommend staying in Denver a day before you fly home, if you can. You'll probably still be pretty tired from the surgery, and may be a little sore. Yes, I did have an appt with Dr. K at 10:00 the morning after surgery. He told my husband while I was recovering that he wanted to see me the next day at that time. I really had no advance warning. It was a good thing I did see him, because the tape over my port became lose and Water from my shower seeped in. He had to clean and recover the incision.

High Blood Pressure Questions

Thanks Jachut! Yeah, based on your symptoms, that doesn't sound like pre-eclampsia either. Mine came on real quick near the end of my pregnancy. About three weeks before giving birth, I had very bad swelling, was excessively tired, and my BP was running boarderline, so she had me on home bed rest. I was checking my BP twice a day, having an ultrasound once a week, and stress test twice a week and all was going well. What prompted my phone call to her, and subseqently the induction, was a BP reading of 190 over 110! Yikes! I did have a small amount of Protein in my urine by that time too. She was watching me like a hawk and the extrememly high BP/protein literally come on overnight. Before that, I was running where you ended up, in the 140's, twice weekly stress tests showed no stress for baby, and weekly tests showed no protein either. I was on Magnesium Sulfate throughout the whole birth, to prevent my having seizures. It was an ordeal, but all ended well! I had HPB before, during and after the pregnancy though. I am currently still on Metoporol 50 mg 2X/day and it's been running at about 116/75 for the past year or so... Yay me!
16. That's right, I did start this thread. I am such a trend setter er.. make that "thread" setter (actually, that would be Drews Lou, she got us all started with Dr. K) I am happy that my 15 minutes of "fame" has brought so many people together for such a good thing! Rock on!! (I'll have to remember this if I ever interview for a job or something) tee hee!! Maybe if we could get everyone to settle on the October and November dates in advance for the "Red Robin Roundtable" we'd be able to book our fill appts and airfare accordingly and meet everyone. I have VERY little vacation time, since I just started my new job, so a Monday or Friday work best for me! quote=Lap_dancer;532400]Shesha you started a great thread here.

The gathering at Red Robin is a meet and eat thing. We talk, getting to know eachother better, bring PICTURES of spouses, kids, pets type thing. I wish I could go every month but I live in Florida. I'm hoping to make it in October or November.

High Blood Pressure Questions

Hey Jachut, Were you banded when you were pregnant with pre-eclampsia?? I had pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy and got REALLY swollen. Now I am banded, have lost 32 lbs, and we are "considering' having another baby. I am concerned that my band might get really tight (even if unfilled) if I get pre-eclampisa and swell again. What are your thoughts?? Thanks for your help! Sheila
18. Hi all! Thanks for the well wishes! It is so nice to see the scale go down again. Let's hope it continues. So, tell me more about this Red Robin night. I obviously won't be able to make this next meeting, but, if you can tell me when you have them.. (third wednesday of month..whatever) Maybe I can schedule my airfare around it and join you this fall sometime! I'll need a fill by then...
19. Woo Hoo!! I get to update my ticker!! April 7th was the last time. I lost a pound!!! I am so happy I got my port fixed!!
20. The following foods do it for me! I am sure there will be more! Cucumbers Chicken - dry Doughy bread/Doughnuts Cold noodles Green Onions
21. Hello Fellow Dr. K'ers! I have excellent restriction! Woo hoo! It's weird not really eating, or being hungry. I am getting used to this, and see why I will need to start up with the protein shakes again... For instance, today I ate: Breakfast: 1 slice of american cheese Lunch: 1 hot dog - just the dog, no bun Snack: Popcorn Dinner: 5 shrimp Snack: 3 Musketeer Bar - which I could have did without, but I was really craving some chocolate. I did have a couple of beers today too. We went to a Beer Fest in Northern Wisconsin. They had 100 beers to sample, so of course I had to try a few. Yes, empty calories I know, but the beer was so yummy! I know, I know, not the healthiest of days. I am usually much better.. fish, chicken, veggies etc. But, I just wanted to give you an idea of how this band works. Oh! and no sliming or PBing, either. I am getting a little better with recognizing the restriction! AND! I was floating around the 237 mark for the last week or so. Well, as of this morning those extra couple of lbs are gone! 234 AGAIN!! HOPEFULLY I will start to lose more. Just gotta stay away from the beer and the 3 Musketeers Bars!!!
22. Hi there! Congrats to all of you on getting your surgery dates! Even with the port problem, I love my band! Thanks for all the well wishes to. I so far so good. I can't wait for this incision to heal so I can move effortlessly again.

So Flippin Mad

Get used to it. I have hardly told anyone just for that reason. I was in the walk in clinic today for something, and I felt like a freak of nature because I have a band. AND live in WI, but got my band in Denver. They thought it was so weird that I had a band. and "why would you fly all the way to denver??"
24. Yes, I am bad. I just waited soooo long for restriction that I didn't want to leave there without it! A little whining will go a long way some times.
25. Yes, that about sums it up. I really do feel like I am a "newbie". Going through all of this has really motivated me. Hopefully the scale with start moving down again!! btw.. good luck with your fill tomorrow! It's really good to hear from you, too! Don't be a stranger. We like your insightful, yet sarcastic, comments!
