    Band:Hungry now since first fill!

I'm the same way. I was banded on May 3, 2010 and had my first fill (1cc in a 10cc Allergen band) on May 26th. At times I am so hungry I could eat everything in sight. I don't though .... I use sheer will power to not go back to my bad eating habits. I eat a little bit and wait. But I find that I am very hungry within two hours of eating. I worry that I'll start gaining weight.
  2. I could feel some gas moving by day three of my surgery. Since there wasn't much in my stomach there wasn't much coming out but I had a mini BM on the 5th day. I started taking Milk of Magnesia on day 3. I had my surgery on May 3, 2010 and have had no problems with constipation. I make sure to drink plenty of Water and I also make sure I'm getting my veggies in. I'm able to eat broccoli and cauliflower...zucchini... I'm looking forward to trying a nice salad, too.
  3. Wow! Congratulations! That's wonderful. We all lose at different rates and it seems you are one of the lucky ones that loses it fast. I was banded on 5/03/10 and lost an initial 10 pounds and then nothing for two weeks. Yesterday I saw the scale start moving so I'm on my way, too! Keep up the good work and stay positive. It's going to come off whether it's slowly or quickly. It's going to happen.
  4. I feel your pain. I was banded 5/03/10 and after I lost my initial 10 pounds from the liquid diet I hadn't lost anything for two weeks. I was getting discouraged. My doc said put the scale away. Good for you that you only weigh yourself once a week! I can't do that. lol.. My doc says expect an average of one pound a week. Your weight will fluctuate. I had my first fill yesterday and had to go back on liquids for the day (I thought I'd die I was so hungry).. but this morning I'm down on the scale FINALLY. Yeah... I saw the scale move after two weeks being stuck. I, like you, have reduced my calorie intake from over 3000 calories a day to under 1000 calories a day. I certainly expected to lose weight faster. I track my calories and food on LIVESTRONG. That also tracks carbs, Protein, fats, yadda. Have patience, we didn't get this way overnight... it's not going to come off overnight, either. Good luck to you and enjoy this journey!
  5. I was the same way. .. but my doc wasn't concerned about Protein during the first week. Just fluids to stay hydrated. Just keep sipping!
  6. I was banded 5/03/2010. Had my first fill yesterday (1cc). No problems yet. I had an initial problem with general anesthesia, but that passed in 3 days.

    First Fill

I was banded on 5/3/10 I had my first fill (1cc) this morning. I just got home. It was done under fluoroscopy. I felt a pinch and a poke but nothing hurt. I drank some bitter stuff to make sure that it was going down into the pouch and emptying in to my stomach and I was outta' there. I asked my doc and he said that he DID put SOME saline in when he installed the band on surgery day. It cost me $75 out of pocket for the first fill. I'm feeling fine but am on Clear Liquids for 24 hours, then full liquids and mushies for 24 hours... then back to normal food (as normal as LAP-BAND® food can be).

    First Fill

Jeez... I don't know what to expect when I go for my first fill on Wednesday. I don't know if there was anything put in my band when I had the surgery, either. I just hope I won't be hungry and not be able to eat. I'll keep you posted. Banded 5/3/10

    Carbs or No Carbs

My doc says low carbs or no carbs. Whole grain carbs are ok in limited quantity. ...(oatmeal, fruits).. but stay away from processed foods that are high in refined sugars...stay away from white sugar and white flour... yadda.. I'm a carb lover, too.. (pasta, bread, crackers) but we've been given this 'tool' to change our lifestyle and learn a new way of eating (healthy). We'll learn to love chicken, fish and vegetables along with cottage cheese, yogurt and skim milk... ... lol... I know I don't want to get back into my old eating habits. I was living to eat.. not eating to live. I hope you won't be discouraged. It's a new journey... enjoy it. Banded May 3, 2010
  11. I also felt the same way 5 days out of surgery. I was ready to chew my arm off I was so hungry. So I called the doc and he said it was time to move on to full liquids and soft food like eggs. Man.. what a difference that made. Just a Protein shake alone made me feel better and up my energy level. Good luck to you all... I hope your doc says you can add some food so you'll feel better. I honestly didn't know how I'd make it through the day if I had to go one more day on Clear Liquids. I was going to go bury my head under the covers and stay there. Luckily.. that one Protein Shake changed my attitude and I felt so much better just getting in some nourishment. Banded May 3, 2010

    Liquid Pain Med

I went home with a prescription of 4mg Dilaudid tablets. They went down fine and worked great. They are very small. They really helped me get a good night's sleep. Looking forward to my first fill on Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Banded May 3, 2010 Dr. Marc Neff, Cherry Hill NJ Kennedy Hospital, Stratford NJ
  14. I'm in the same boat. I can eat anything I want. It's just sheer willpower that I'm going on now trying to not eat. I'm hungry every two hours. I get my first fill on Wednesday May 26. I hope that helps. I'm starting to get the 'bandster hell' idea. Banded May 3, 2010

    Freaking Hungry!!!!

    I'm Home!!!! Banded 5/17!!!!!

Congratulations on the beginning of a new and healthier YOU!! I was banded on May 3.
  20. I have a jug of each... vanilla and chocolate Isopure zero carb protein powder. I think they taste good. One scoop is 25g of protein. I mix a couple strawberries and 1/2 frozen banana in with the vanilla powder.. add some ice and skim milk. I think it's pretty good. The chocolate you can add the banana to, also.. and an extra tsp. of cocoa powder makes it even more chocolatey (is that a word?). Anyway.. they are great to whip up in a pinch when you are starving and don't have time to cook anything. I think they are very satisfying and they don't taste too sweet and artificial.
  21. I was banded on May 3. Anesthesia is NOT my friend. I had 3 tough days of pain and nausea, then it passed. I slept sitting up in a comfy chair for a few days. I would call the doc if you are concerned that this isn't normal. I'm doing great now. Just had my 2nd week follow up appt. and I'm going in next week for my first fill. I'm down 10 pounds in 2.5 weeks. I feel pretty good. My knees are killing me from trying to walk and exercise a bit. I'm hoping that will subside once I get some of the weight off of them. Good luck to you... and I hope you feel better.
  22. I was 5 days out of surgery and was so hungry I couldn't stand it. I called my doc and he said it was ok to start on full liquids and soft foods. That first Protein shake was heaven. I had gotten so weak and had started chewing my tongue and bottom lip. I couldn't stand another broth or Jello.. I head back to the doc tomorrow... hopefully I'll move on to stage 4... eating real food. I'd love to have a salad. LAP-BAND® Surgery was May 3.
  23. Hey Dottie Ann.. good for you. Keep up that positive attitude! I was banded on May 3, too and am doing well. I'm on the second stage of foods and have been getting hungry at times. I've been walking and exercising with my Wii fit and Sports Resort package. I see my doc again on Wednesday.

New and taking charge of my life

Congratulations and good luck to both of you. I also researched first... saw the doc... waited a year thinking that I could diet on my own (again).. found out (again) that I couldn't do it on my own and went back to the surgeon one year later and started the 'process' to get LAP-BAND® surgery. It all took 6 months to get all of the required tests and appointments finished and then to get the approval from my insurance company. I didn't get the approval from the insurance company until 4 days before my surgery. What a stressful time that was! I was banded on May 3 and today is my first follow up appointment with my surgeon.

    Banded May 5 and STARVING!!!

I was so hungry today that I finally called my surgeon's nurse tonight and left a message that I was so hungry that my dog was looking pretty good to me and that it was either my arm that I was going to chew off or the dog gets it.. lol... She texted my surgeon and he said Welcome to the road to recovery and said I can start Greek yogurt, scrambled egg with cheese, full liquids for now with nothing else added. So I'm thrilled to just be able to have something other than clear liquids. I was starting to chew on my tongue but thought I could stand two more days until my appointment with the surgeon. Then.. I figured what do I have to lose so called the nurse. Boy am I glad I did. I'm down 12 pounds in one week. As long as you are taking in fewer calories that what you need... you are going to lose weight. Your body will need time to adjust. One day you might see a loss... maybe none for a couple.. but you'll lose. Don't fret. Think of those thousands of calories we consumed to get us to the point of obesity. We're never going back there. We'll lose it. Just stick to the plan and get in your exercise. We can do this!
