  1. One month away from my one year anniversary - started at 343 - down to 239 - 19lbs from my goal of 220 - Flabby skin - ready to start talking plastics - any recommendations for great plastic surgeons in the Tampa area?

I really didn't think that I would be - and its not been as easy - hit some miserable plateaus. Became a bit of gym junky - Started walking post surgery - built that up to 4 miles 5 times per week - then moved on to yoga 3 - 4 times per week and weights - unfortunately - too much skin and want it gone - think I will feel much better about myself when that is done.

  2. I think my last update was early July and I was stuck on a long plateau.  Well since then things have been interesting.  I spent a week in the hospital with an acute Pancreatitis attack, followed by something going horribly wrong with my chemistry causing my ankle to balloon (it was not gout).  I have been on steroids for the last week and in a huge walking boot.  Makes work very very difficult.  That being said - the plateau broke - and I am down to 259 - nine pounds from goal 1....  What a rollercoaster ride it has been.

Shedo82773 - I was not given a choice - when I went to the ER they told me I was being admitted to CCU. My Lipase was 3600 - 8mg morphine every 4 hours for 5 days + zophran. Glad it's all over right now.... I don't think I could have rode out the pain on my own - never felt anything like that in my life.

  3. So I did make a tasty creation this week.

    Ingredients:

1 can of cooked chicken (drained)

    1/2 onion

    2 cloves garlic

    1 can Rotel

1 can of black beans (drained)

    grated cheese (dealers choice)

cook the onion and garlic.  Deglaze the pan with a little cooking wine, add in the chicken, Rotel, Black Beans, simmer and reduce the sauce until nearly gone.  Makes (way to many servings)  ladle out, sprinkle with a little grated cheese and enjoy...    Yum.

My doc told me you are 50, you will be sedated, you will have only 1 co-pay - so let's put you on a spit and look in both ends.

  5. Update update... I've reached a plateau at 275 lbs (126 kg ) for almost a week...Doc says that's okay at least I didn't gain.

Anyone with an opinion...be kind? :57_cry:

  6. My weight loss has now eclipsed my current weight.  I have lost 199 pounds and weigh 198 pounds.  One more pound until I have lost an even 200 pounds, and only 18 pounds until goal!

  8. Crap....so I ran out of ready made protein shakes and ran to Walmart before work.  Picked up Slimfast protein drinks, mocha cappuccino.  Started drinking it...yum.  Anyway, it says "as much caffeine as a cup of coffee"...darn it.  Can't have caffeine now...thankfully it was two sips.  Guess they'll be sitting in the fridge for quite a while! I don't have anything on hand at work but one broth and water....ugh.

Try Premier Protein - the dietician at my surgeon's office recommended it. They are high in protein, very filling. You can get them at Sams Club, Costco or Wal-Mart.

  10. 5 days post opp  had issue with swollen fingers but I had chicken Brest that was high sodium.  Sleep just okay last night but every night is better pain is tolerable now. I only take pain medication at bedtime  but I'm still not able to get recommended protein in. Not sure how to do that if 3 meals are 1 to 2 oz a day   If anyone knows of a puréed food that has 20 grams of protein in 2 oz pass it along.

Hope all is well with everyone !

Ray - try to get your hands on these protein shakes, they were recommended by the nutritionist, they taste good, not diety, and they are packed with protein. Sams Club, Costco, Wal-Mart all sell them - Sams is the cheapest.

  11. Has anyone had the lap band and it not work, and need to have removed and get another Gastric surgery?

    1. luckylimey

      luckylimey

Yes - I had the lap band in 2005. Six weeks post op, they removed the port, since the wound site would not heal. Starting weight was 430. I had many, many problems with my lap band, ending in erosion in 2010 with a complete removal, and an open wound for 12 month due to peritonitis. However, I had a completely open band, no fills because of no port and I went from for 430 to 232. Its now 7 years later, I have gained 90lbs and I am one week away from gastric sleeve surgery, nervous, excited, anxious - I am all of these things - but I will take this as opposed to being dead due to heart disease, diabetes, and all the other stuff that comes with being obese. (BTW I hate that word obese, I would prefer to be called fat, but obese is what I am) Only you can make the decision as to what right for you, listen to yourself and make the best choice for you.

  12. 4/21 - When to the NUT today. She was soo proud of my progress. I told her I was concerned that I my loss was slowing down and she assured me that it would be normal. She said, "Slow and steady wins the race. She said my weight looked amazing and that I should be proud of even 4lbs because of how much 1lb of fat means to a healthier body. She gave me the go ahead to start adding in new foods with limitations:

    Stay away from red meat

    Stay away from pasta

    Stay away from rice

Stay away from from all kinds of ice cream and sugar free junk alternatives.

And the usual suspects (No cakes, cookies, ice cream and soda (any carbonated/sparkling drink)

She gave me the go ahead to start lightly at the gym. No more than a 30 minute light weight workout (walking on the treadmill and biking). She said no weight lifting just yet, or swimming :(, I will have to wait until my 6 week followup with my surgeon to see if it is okay.

    Since Pre-Op Diet (3/12/2017): 29lbs

    Since Surgery (3/26/2017): 15lbs

Although 15lbs does not seem like a lot, it is when you break it down in weeks. That is 3.75lbs a week. That is more than I ever did without this tool. I am soo happy it's working.

A pound is a pound, and every one that's lost is a benefit.
