    Did I do something?

Not too sure if Im experienced to awnser, but the whole point of the strict post op diet is to let your insides heal. Both the insides and outside have to heal before your body can handle things. My Dr. Told me this because it is easier to digest things on the diet and slowly implement foods. I think with the swelling and bloating inside post op, that it strains the internals to digest normally. Stick to the diet plan and let yourself heal.
  2. Ok, just odd to me, but I just finished my clears only diet, Dr only asked me to do 5 days. Then back to regular liquids. But here is my question.... Why am I getting stuffed on 1/2 cup of cream of potato. strained and served. And I MEAN STUFFED! I thought I had no restriction? Just curious.....
  3. Wow, talk about an emotional rollercoaster ride this was! Pre-op focus and preperation for a solid 2 weeks with no food, just liquids. Accomplished that without cheating and lost a total of 32 lbs pre-op. Surgery went absolutely smooth. Doc said the weight loss made the difference for him, that made me proud. But then I went home. And then the night gas pain kicked in for me. Now, Im a big guy, played football for 16 years and have been through alot of pain. But man, this gas travelling through my chest and into my shoulder? Drop me to my knees and begging for my mom a 1000miles away(its a guy thing) :wink2: but I managed to survive. But I can tell you, for the following 2.5 days post op, I was really doubting this journey. Was it worth it? The pain? no food? gas pain ect? Then I started to think how I felt. I am now 42lbs down and havent even started my life with the band. Seeing those kind of numbers, just shot me through the roof. I firmly believe the liquid pre-op is a huge factor. It is a total kick off for whats to come.....and just makes things easier. Last night we went to the grocery store to prepare for my second phase. I was told clear liquids for 5 days, then back to my shakes and strained creamed soups. I think I almost cried last night in the grocery store because I was so happy to be picking out soups. Have I mentioned that I hate broth and will probably never be able to manage it alone unless ABSOLUTELY necessary? LOL I even got the sugar free applesauce and V8 with low sodium. I was like a kid in a candy store! The weight loss without the band is an amazing feeling to me, and now that I am 42lbs ahead of my curve, its all exciting and just makes me want to push harder. So, the satisfaction on my decision is slowly starting to kick in! Finally.......
  4. Try to walk 3x's a day and I used both the GasX strips and chewables. Popped them babies like crack! Im 6 days post op and still taking them at night. For some reason, when I get to resting, the gas heads towards my left shoulder and drops me like a rock. I take a few GasX and about 30min later, I can lay down without issues. The GAs is my biggest challenge so far.
  5. 1st off, Happy Mothers day to all of you on your special day! I was feeling GREAT today, went to church, and took the wife out for a nice family mothers day lunch. Had a nice broth and Water for lunch, was awesome! And so we went and ran errands, still feeling strong today.....when I sneezed. MAN, did this open a gas pocket or something in my chest!!! I felt a small pulsation and the pain started moving up my left side to my left arm and felt like it was jumping from side to side. Then the pain started to kick in.....oh boy, told my honey she was gonna have to drive and it was over. The pain got worse and worse and as soon as I got in the driveway, the nausea kicked in? WTH? where did that come from? havent had that in days!!!! So, nothing a little nausea medication and nap couldnt take care of. BUT MAN did I get chopped down like a tree! It was like a small sneeze freed up a gas bubble hiding in my chest somewhere. And man, did it take me down. Wish my mommy was here! All better now. But dont worry, I can still feel the gas playing around inside me. BUT I WILL BEAT THIS!
  6. Day two and I am just so weak. The pain in my stomach is ok, but comes and goes. Feel like puking every so often, so Im taking the meds for that. But man, this slump of pain and cramps, PLEASE Tell me it goes away!!!! Geez, I feel like a walking zombie
  7. What a great soothing experience so far with Dr. Griffin. I love his staff, and the way they treat their patients. His nutritionist never talks down to you and is always out to lend a hand in your progress. Dr. Griffin is honest and to the point. I really respect that. I am now 33 Days out from surgery......... Game on!
  8. 4 days post op and feeling better. Dr. Griffin called me from his cell the same night and checked on me. I thought that was above and beyond. What a great guy this Dr. is. He is hard on the facts but its all for a good cause. The facts for pre-op are to help you and to make your surgery as safe as possible. I lost 32 lbs pre-op and Dr. Griffin said this made my surgery one of the easiest he has done. I appreciated that comment and knowing what I know now, I would lose the weight in a heartbeat for pre-op. Thanks Dr. Griffin for a great first time surgery experience. Thanks for watching over me and being a great Dr!
  9. Surgery on may 5th, but I can do the 2 ounces an hour, but after so long, it feels like I have no more room!! Maybe I just need to be sipping all day no matter what. As for clears, oh yeah, nothing but clear fluids.
  10. I can hardly keep anything down without feeling like I just ate a horse! I am definately not getting enough fluids in then. Half a jar of Isopur pre-mix and maybe half a bottled water. I just get to the point where I feel like I just cant hold anything in there. Is that normal? OR should I just keep packing it down slowly?
  11. 5 days starting yesterday. But I was having a hard time with things in yesterday. Not so much today. Feeling somewhat normal, started drinking my Isopur bottle, goal is to finish it today. Maybe some jello later. Just scared
  12. Feeling much better today, finally getting fluids down and somewhat feeling normal.... Thank GOD!
  13. Well, I can tell you how important the pre-op is on surgery. I lost a total of 32lbs for mine, and when it was all said and done, my Doctor called me at home the night of my surgery may5th and just kept thanking me for making it one of his easiest bandings. He even asked if it was ok to use my pics and surgery for other patients. I said no problem! Mind you, on the liquid diet I didnt cheat not one time. My wife actually did it with me to kick off a diet for her "Navy Weight" and she lost a total of 16 lbs. So I can tell you it works!
  14. I can only lay on my sides. I find it hard to breath laying on my back for some reason. Maybe all that bloating and pressure in my chest..... Feel a bit better after my 8oclock dose of meds
  15. I told my wife the same thing! But man, this stomach gas is killing me. Im awake again at 12am because of it. I will see if the Gasx strips and pain meds make it better. Anyone else have a hard time laying down?
  16. Just woke up from a Nap, and the only thing that is bothering me is stomach type of cramping. Dunno if its gas, or residule pain from the op. Gonna go try and walk it off... Again, just slight pain in my stomach... :glare: Other than that, I feel good.:bored:
  17. Im back home from sugery! Everything went well! Doc was so happy with my pre-op weight loss, that he said surgery went quick and smooth 1hour and 1 min in surgery. No pain in the shoulder yet, but I do have some cramping like pain in the stomach. Gonna have to google that!
  18. Goodbye pre-op forum! Going to bed for Surgery at 730am tomorrow~ Happy Cinco De Mayo! See you after surgery~~

    3 Days out, overwhelming depression

Wow, Sunday was interesting.....woke up feeling ok, but then a slow overwhelming drepression/funk took over. It was like a complete take over of my body. I felt like I didnt want to go anywhere or do anything....just sleep. I was tired and weak....just felt like jello. So the family packs up, church as usual on Sunday, and off we go. Afterwards lunch, then a swim party. Oh it finally started to turn around! Started having fun with the kids and the day was officially rolling! Soon after the swim party we were back home again, soon I had to run an errand and when I got back,I started to empty any trash out of my car, so I bent over, picked a few things up and when I stood up, BAM! Dizzy and nausea! I wasnt sure if it was real or not, so I start walking and sure enough, things got shaky! Only thing I can attribute to is all the swimming we did and buring of calories. Still on the liquid diet and maybe just didnt get enough calories in today for the calories that went out.....Not sure! But, later on in the evening, it got better. Had a small protein and green salad and I was fine. Not to mention the depression or funk was gone too. Really dont know what the heck that was about, just maybe in my head I was saying goodbye to someone and hello to someone new? Surgery in 2 days now! Woooohooooo!
