Yes it is gas. keep walking it will help. Have you taken "gas x?" Yep you are and should stay on a liquid diet. I enjoyed Vegetable, beef and chicken broth. Jello Tea and Water. Etc. YOu will do fine and I congratulate you on your surgery and your trip to a healthy life style. I would imagine that your Dr's office provided you with a week by week menu. Many times, we don't think they do so we do not look at the paper work given to us. Since you have not eatten in a while. Please becareful and don't over do the pain pills. You will become constipated. You will be very unhappy if you do. You might want to purchase stool softners. Sooner than later. At this time you have to be KIND to your area. Take your time and think about how you want to exercise and get ready to learn how to eat again the lapband way. I am hoping that you will not dwell on food all the time. Think about other things as you go foward in your journey. Make friends, read books, measure your body, do not eat that bread. You might want to buy a book for your low carb and high Protein program. remember to chew your food slowly. hugs.

My doctor did not give any amounts post op other than 8oz by volume of liquids (broth or Tomato soup) and 3 oz of Protein cottage/ricotta cheese, canned chicken or tuna. My doctor was not that hip on mashed potato. I am two years out and only eat processed carbs on occation. I don't keep crackers, chips, cookie, candy, cake, bread, or Pasta in the house. I also don't eat red meat, rice or potato on a regular basis. I save these things for dinner parties etc so they really are a big treat.

Might not have been such a great idea moving to soft food 10 days post op, if it was earlier than u should have, what were your doctors guidelines ? this time is for healing so the stomach needs to have a more liquid sort of diet to stop it trying to digest food.
Sounds like u are doing well weight wise, keep moving and eating right and the gas does eventually go, but take it slowly and things should improve with time

This Lapband Tool works if you work it. Low carbs~~HIgh Protein~ Low Fat. No bread, no potatoes, no rice, no donuts, no cake, no candy no soda, no high carbs= weight loss, smaller body and a happier and healthier life. This is not a partime situation. It is a lifetime thing. Today I had a cookie. It was one from out Europe trip. JUST ONE....BEFORE~ I WOULD HAVE HAD 10 AND WANTED MORE.
I STILL AM NOT PERFECT....I NEVER WILL BE. BUT I WORKED FOR WHAT I HAVE AND I AM HAPPIER. If i wanted bread or any off the above mentioned things (which I don't) I could have them **just a tiny bit*** hugs.

If we go out, I eat just a little bit. My health is more important to me than the food. But I usually eat it the next day.
Last night I had pain in the hip. Ray was rubbing some bengay on it. He said I didnt have any fat in that area. I only heard the words~~~~ didnt have fat.~~~~~~

For a lot of us losing is not the problem. Keeping it off is!! I wonder if him saying that is really a cover for something else? Like others said he could be concerned about the surgery but there could be other factors as well. I would sit him down for a serious conversation and probe a little more.

EASY WAY OUT??????????????? This is not for the person who wants an easy way out it is not easy.. it is a tool and you need to work it. You ARE NOT GOING TO BE CUT UP....I have 5 little holes.
I can not understand anyone saying something like that to you when they are suppose to be your boyfriend just thank God you aren't married to him. Is he Overweight, is he insecure, or is he just into manipulation and power, is he afraid you will walk??
Maybe I come on to strong but you need support from the person that is with you and if he is making you depressed now he more then likely won"t understand what this so called easy way out involves, Keep on this site many have been in your shoes. Best of Luck to you think long and hard about what you want your life to be and make a choice that will make you happy.
For many of us the band has helped us get rid of lots of heavy baggage..

Cindysmom (Ilene) reacted to Jachut in Why Is It....
Why is it so hard to make the choice to be healthy (weight wise?).
Without going into too much detail, following rectal cancer, radiation, chemo and two surgeries, I have found out that due to extensive intestinal damage from treatment I am now gluten intolerant, lactose intolerant, and sensitive to fodmaps (various short chain carbs such as lactose, fructose, fructans, oligosaccharides).
I have to do a very strict eight week elimination diet. Yet it is not daunting at all. I am soooo looking forward to being freed from my gut woes (or at least having it reduced). I am a slave to the bathroom, constantly anxious about being near one, it really affects my quality of life. My body embarrasses me on a regular basis, I am completely laxative dependent, yet cant trust a fart, and unable to really live my life the way I want to. Not to mention anxiety, depression and brain fog.
So this diet does not phase me at all. Giving up wheat forever - no problem. Living low lactose (not dairy free), easy peasy. Steering clear of certain fruits and vegies with more fructose than glucose- whatever. Avoiding onions and garlic -eeek, not so easy, how to cook or eat out without those? But overall, I am just looking forward to a reduction in my IBS symptoms.
Weight loss has SO many more benefits even than that! So many far reaching psychological, physical and social benefits, such a huge increase to your quality of life - so why is it so damned hard to walk away from the donuts? How can anyone want a donut more than that? I wish I knew the answer, I'd be very wealthy.
I'm going to try to think this way next time I feel the desire to overeat or eat inappropriately. Even within my limitations.
(edited to add, these changes are so much easier for me now, post lapband than they would have been seven years ago. I mean, I dont eat bread as it is. And there's gluten and dairy free alternatives for all the naughty stuff. I'm not fond of fruit either, so restricting it to bananas, pineapple and rhubarb is no biggie).

Check with ur dr really is the only way to be 100% sure about your pouch. BUT if your band was completely emptied chances are you did not strecth ur pouch you just need a fill. I have seen a couple of post regarding people who have had there bands emptied and takes longand more fills to reachieve that restriction/ green zone from the first time.
Like the person above me said start over one day at a time track ur calories and Portion Control . Good luck!

It looks like we had the band exactly the same day. You might want to check your profile numbers, there is an error there and it makes the bmi over 100. Something is not right.
Regarding the situation you have, I feel for you. If it was me. I would start over and get my fills. I do not believe that we have a pouch that is getting stretched out. (that is more of the gastric by pass)
Try to not let the bad stuff ruin your life. Go forward. One day at a time. I wish you good luck. Forget the old stuff and begin new again...This is your life. You already have the lapband ~ so why not use it. It is just a tool. Please feel free to contract me at any time. Lizybird@aol.com..I am 90 lbs done.

It is not feasible to never have a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine again. None of us got to where we are from a glass of wine or a piece of chocolate. We all still have lives to live, we just need to make smarter choices along the way. Saying we CAN'T have something is how a lot of us got here in the first place! Enjoy your wine and husband and live life to the fullest.
P.s. My surgeon NEVER mentioned being unable to consume alcohol, only to not over consume and to wait until I am fully healed.
Let's all support eachother here because not one of us is perfect and we should not expect others to be either.

I agree, I think a lot of the theories are just that at the moment, theories. A bit like the hygiene hypothesis and allergies - although the theory has been around for ages it has still not been fully proven which is why it is still a hypothesis.
Thanks Helen for giving us more clarification, unfortunately the questions I asked in my first response were still not answered.
I think the funnel concept is correct but what we are not looking at is what happens to the last food that goes into the funnel. Yes the initial food that gets put in there goes through quite quickly but what goes in later goes through slower - "like sands through an hourglass".

What was quite interesting was that about a year ago I contacted Allergan with this exact query. I asked how long it took for the food to pass through and why if it was passing through so quickly one could not drink soon after eating.
They actually phoned me which I was quite shocked about as they are in the USA and I am in Aus. They could not give me an answer to the question. They did not seem to believe that the food passed through quickly and said that it took a while but could not put a time to that. Quite strange when the manufacturer does not know how it's product works.
Yes Helen is a highly regarded dietician and works with one of our most highly regarded bariatric surgeons.
However for me the info still does not give all the answers.
Cocoa I imagine that with the test they only watched a few bites and presumably because it was test conditions you were not eating the way you would do normally. Even if unintentionally you were probably more aware of how you were chewing. I think that to come up with a definitive answer they would need to test a large number of people and watch as they ate an entire meal. The difficulty would be to get people to relax and eat the way that they normally do when at home.
