Cindysmom (Ilene) got a reaction from Alex Brecher in Five Signs that You’re Not Ready for Weight Loss Surgery
I’ve had my lapband for 8 years already. I was mentally concerned about what I can eat, how much, when can I do it. I joined Facebook and friended someone who had a Lapband. I hoped that she would help me get thru the first weeks and months of my journey. After asking her many times the famous question what can I eat. She responded to me that I should stop focusing on food. And that I should put my focus on exercise and being active. I was so insulted by what she said to me that I immediately unfriended her.
In 15 months I let go of 96 lbs. and was healthy and thin and so proud of myself.
There was a death in my family and it hit me very badly. I went into a deep depression and didn’t care about me at all. I began to gain weight, I went to several Lapband Doctors for fills and unfills. It got to a point that I didn’t even have a Doctor to see me.
I threw up at almost every meal, and gained weight. Pound by pound. Well, after throwing up so much, I went to the Dr who did the surgery and he took some Fluid out.. I think he took out more than I wanted. He also gave me a script to have an Upper Gi series with contrast. And low and behold, my Lapband slipped.
As of this date. I am working on having my Lapband removed and getting a revision to a sleeve. I have a positive outlook on my live and a new journey for me.

Omg, I am shocked to read this, in a way, it sounded like how I feel. Because of a slippage, I too will have my band removed.
This is not about me, it’s about you Alex. I hope that the mini gastric bypass works out for you. I hope the removal of the band will be easy.
People do not know this but in the first book you wrote about the Lapband, I was Ilene From Ny. Having that experience to share my feelings and then seeing it in print was the most amazing thing in my life. I just want to say thank you!
I cant wait to read about how you are doing with your new friend. I am not sure which pal that I will change to.
Happy holidays Alex, enjoy everything in your life! You deserve only the best.
With Love, Ilene Falley-Harrell aka Cindys Mom!

I had my lapband 2/2/10, I went from 256 to 163. I am now 188. I am at a stand still and I truly need help. I gave a supportive husband. But it not enough. I need a friend who is in a similar situation. I gained my weight during the past almost 2 years. I had surgery on my legs, and could not do very much exercise, I lost my brother and I was in a terrible depression. His death was 15 months ago and I am much better. However, my lapband mojo has left me. I used to be very strict, exercised a lot and never ever cheated. And now I am lost. Without any friends or support. Before I lost mr mojo, I was involved with sparkpeople.com. I was a co leader and creator of a lapband group. As the months went on, our team left one by one. That team is over, I still have access to the paper work and research it put together. If you have read Alex's book you will find 11 pages of me. I am Ilene of Florida and ny. However, my name here is cindysmom. That's how you can find me on bariatric pal. I have helped many people lose weight successively. Only to need help myself. NOW. I am now 67 years old. I reside in ft Lauderdale, fl. My email is also lizybird @ aol.com. Can someone be there
    for me? Thanks Ilene

YA know what? This sounds like a great idea. Especially if we really want to achieve our goal.
How about if we write down our original way that we ate when we got our band? And then write down what we are doing now.
We are in different parts of the USA. Va, Arkansas, and me in South Florida. In Alec's lapband book, I am Ilene from ny and florida.

Het you two! Glad to hear from you both! I think checking in frequently is the thing to do to help us all out! It's a daily struggle at this point for a lot of us banders. Ilene glad you have your cruise to look forward too. Sometimes that can be a motivator. Keep walking like you're doing.
Sahm I'm with you on the exercising. I wish God would have given me that gene that makes people think about exercising like I think about brushing my teeth! lol (I'm a Dental Hygienist) I did good today on the eats and water/diluted green tea. Now if I can get on the treadmill for another 15 mins or so! Ughh! Tomorrow's another day! Nite

Well today was much better (except for the speeding ticket I got traveling back to my home state of MO.). I have a Health O Meter-stand up sliding kind. I invested in it nearly 20 years ago. Always on target with my docs though they've all gone digital now.
Anyway have a great weekend ladies. I know I'll do alright this weekend. I always do better when I'm away from home! Ha!

I had a day yesterday where I would have normally eaten everything in sight. Very emotional day at work, but that is another story. The worst thing I put in my month was a 1 twizzlers. I have to say I'm proud of myself. Still haven't made it on the treadmill. Today is my day off from work so errands and clean house.
How much snow have you ladies seen in NY? Fingers crossed that we will finally get some on Tuesday & Wednesday here.
Keep pushing forward. Every ounce counts.

I live in NY about an hour south of syracuse . Glad you had a good day food wise . I didn't eat too much caue was gone all day and car a lot. Of course I came home and had a few Hershey's minaturea but still stayed within my calories so that was good . I walked in the snow before I left for funeral . I use a fit bit and usually get my 10000 steps in . I do go to the gym 5 times a week but then tend to use that as excuse to have treats .
Hope everyone has a good day.
I am going to see my daughter at college for the weekend . So that should be good .

Happy Monday. I wish I had the fortitude to follow all the rules as I did 5 years ago. It makes me very scared that I am having problems doing it. I tend to want to finish what I started. Like the box of healthy choice pops. Fudge bars. just got up and took one to have. hmm tastes refreshing - lol. ..I have a great big job here. even though I am retired, this is a job.
Tuesday, I want to go to Water aerobics. and then on Sat. WE are heading for a nice 7 day cruise on Feb 21 -Feb 28.
But I still see that scale where I don't want it to be. We have been taking our walk as much as possible. Being in South Florida, we tend to get used to warm weather and because of that even 72 degrees is cold for us. Dr Quack, upped my anti depressants and might be messing up my weight going down. oh crap. I will continue not eating the white flour junk that I abstained from from the start. I will be going for a slight fill in a few days. so have a nice day take care.

Hey Gals. Sounds great. I have been drinking more Water and not eating my crackers. I have an apt to have a small fill. Hope that this will be a good choice. My days change so much and I have gastritis, so I have to watch my thoughts of pain or is it hunger. How can I be hungry? The lapband does its trick. The chocolate that Ray and bought half price are almost gone.
But I have been walking over 10,000 steps per day, I will be going to the water aerobics as soon as I can. Even though we live in warm Florida, when it cools down, I don't like to come out of the pool and into the weather. The chief tells me to do this. I bought some turkey today. Going back to my original way of eating. Little Cindy helps me be full. Full of frustration when she begs for table food. It turns me off completely.
Both you gals are doing great.

I am in a similar situation. Today is my bands anniversary 5 years. I am a bit older than you, I have a feeling that your year of birth is 1970. I will be 67 years old. Are you interested in me?
I am married. I don't think that we need to kick any one butt at all. I think we need friendship, love, caring, support. I myself eould never want anyone to kick my butt. I myself have done that. Esp over the past year. I gained 30 lbs. I lost my brother a year ago and have been very sad since. But I do need to go back and exercise. It's all up to Ourselves. But yea I need help too.

Have you gals read Alex's book about the Lapband? I know I did, I proudly can say that 11 pages in the book are from me. They have me as Ilene from Ny and Florida.
I never had a support group to go to as other gals do. After almost five years with the Lapband, I just live my life. I used to dwell on food all the time and even got chewed out by someone with a history like mine. I was so mad that I un friended her. But she was right.
I now think of exercise every day, the food is secondary to me. I am 66 years old now and it took me 15 months to lose 86 lbs. at this time, I gained 27 lbs because. Last year I had 8 surgeries on my legs. And I was unable to exercise or walk much. Then 7 months ago my brother died, and I have been depressed and sad.
A combo of stress, lack of sleep, no exercise and a band that needed some un filling created a weight gain for me. I now have a new doc and I am in the green zone . I am on my way.
I am telling you this because sometimes life pops in and all the planning you might have done can mess things up. Rome was not built in a day. Hugs to all.

Welcome to the lapband world. You r doing fantastic. And day by day, week by week, you will see changes. The lapband will never be successful. It is you that will be sucessful with the tool.
If you are throwing up or bringing some up, you are eating too fast and you might not be chewing as well as you think.
Enough is enough when after eating you fell satisfied not filled to the brim.
The pouch that we have is very small. It is suggested that you measure you food before eating. I know this because I did the same. And I have my lapband almost 5 years. I mess up too. Slow down. The changes are in your future. Best wishes. Ilene

Hi there, I had to do a lot of behavior modification as I ate so fast. And, yes, I still do eat too quickly sometimes, but now I get the feeling -- the indication that not all is well -- ahead of time and I stop. That part was hard for me as my instinct was to have just one or two bites more then stop. Um, no. I think you're doing great -- so happy for you! It takes a little time to find the groove but that's what it's all about.
