BQT got a reaction from summerseeker in 3 months out.. any naseau?gerd?
I am waking at night with naseau or reflux (kind of trying to figure out which it is). Has ANYONE experienced this? I’m praying that it’s nothing serious because the whole reason I had the revision surgery was for bad erosions that wouldn’t heal from acid reflux (after the sleeve).

had an endoscopy two weeks ago and have another scheduled In May

    THANK U FOR SHARING/your time

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to answer me. It’s been over 2 months , so that’s why I’m kinda freaking out (my younger brother died of stomach cancer in his 30s… sooo the thought not getting my erosions to heal and this surgery not having been a success is really depressing me). I have an endoscopy scheduled for 3/15.. I can’t bear the thought of this revision not being a success … thank you , again 😢🙏🏽

BQT got a reaction from summerseeker in 2 weeks out, wake up with slight Naseua
Just had bypass as a revision because the sleeve was giving major erosive esophagitis… I’ve been waking up with a similar feeling… at first I thought it was reflux again but it kinda feels more like nausea /or throw up stuck an it’s way up… I’m sooo scared that this surgery didn’t work

    Hey everyone!! 👋 😀
So they decided to give me the Sleeve instead, because they realized my liver had not shrunk enough to do the gastric bypass. I was a bit upset upon the realization, mostly because I was set on my decision. Also I battle with acid reflux so my concern is the sleeve will make that worse. Let's hope not. My surgeon did say that down the road we can discuss doing the gastric bypass if the sleeve does has that negative affect on my acid reflux, but he assured me all went really well and he was very happy with it. When I came to, I will admit I was ROUGH. They kept me in recovery for hours as I could not keep my eyes open, and I was in quite a lot of pain. Eventually they took me to another room that was just temporary as my room was not ready yet. No dimmed lights and more pain medication was needed. I was moaning and groaning by the time they got me to my room for the night. Eventually pain became less and less and by 5am yesterday morning I was up and walking up and down the hall by myself. Going to the bathroom on a regular, and starting to relieve gas build up. They eventually discharged me at about 4:30 pm yesterday. Last night at home was rough, woke up every hour and decided to take the time to walk since I was awake anyways. Rough sleep, sore belly and back. Eventually moved downstairs to the living room couch lol. Rested a bit but not much. It is now nearly 1pm and I still feel quite sore, tired, and slow, but feeling somewhat better. 😅

BQT got a reaction from summerseeker in No energy
I’m sorry to keep posting, but this is soo challenging . I had my surgery last Monday (Dec 18), I’m finally drinking 3 Premier Protein drinks a day (plus waters , broths, puddings) and today is Christmas Eve and I’m planning on having family visit but I feel like I lack energy —the way that you feel when you just haven’t eaten… does anyone have any recommendations?

that really varies a lot between people. I'm pretty active on another site and we talk about this a lot. We have people who can only eat 1000 and others who can eat 2000 (all women). I would say most are in the 1200-1600 range.

Also, please make your surgeon and RD clarify what they mean by "ounces." This was one of the MOST confusing things to me and it aggravated me no end!
I don't honestly even know if THEY understand the confusion they cause!
VOLUME is king in our world. Most often, when docs and RDs refer to "ounces" in the very early days post surgery, they are talking BY VOLUME and Fluid measurement. That means roughly we should aim for these volumes. People will swing either 1 step up or down on the time scale for volume. In early days when real estate is totally at a premium, we concentrate and fill that volume with Protein first. As we mature, we can handle other things in addition to meeting our protein goals.
When dealing with dense, solid PROTEIN in the progressing phases, it's important to go by weight, but it still needs to fit within the VOLUME limit for the meal. And this is where it gets tricky cuz 1oz BY VOLUME does NOT equal 1 oz by weight. That's why I still weigh my protein into a measuring cup first so that I know I get my protein needs met and don't exceed my 1 cup per meal volume prescription for my forever diet:
    BY VOLUME:
    1-2 weeks post op:
1 oz by volume = 2 tbsp of food = 1/8 cup by volume = 1 medicine cup of volume
2 oz by volume = 4 tbsp of food = 1/4 cup by volume
    3-4 weeks post op:
3 oz by volume = 6 tbsp of food = approx 1/3 cup by volume
4 oz by volume = 8 tbsp of food = 1/2 cup by volume
    5-8 weeks post op:
5 oz by volume = 10 tbsp of food = approx 2/3 cup by volume
    9-12 weeks post op:
6 oz by volume = 12 tbsp of food = 3/4 cup by volume
13 weeks to forever post op:
7 oz by volume = 14 tbsp of food = approx 7/8 cup by volume
8 oz by volume = 16 tbsp of food = 1 cup by volume
    BY WEIGHT:
1 oz by WEIGHT = 28.35g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1/4 cup by volume (approx) = approx 7g of protein by macro/cooked
2 oz by WEIGHT = 57g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1/2 cup by volume (approx) = approx 14g of protein by macro/cooked
3 oz by WEIGHT = 85g by WEIGHT METRIC = 3/4 cup by volume (approx) = approx 21g of protein by macro/cooked
4 oz by WEIGHT = 113g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1 cup by volume (approx) = approx 28g of protein by macro/cooked
1 oz by WEIGHT = 28.35g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1/8 cup by volume (approx) for veggies cooked al dente
2 oz by WEIGHT = 57g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1/4 cup by volume (approx) for veggies cooked al dente

Foods like yogurt are pretty slippery and soft, so you usually don't feel the restriction or satiety with them that you do with something more solid like meat or cheese, so it is quite normal that you can eat more yogurt than the nominal 2-3 ounces that is often stated. I could likewise go through a normal 5-6 oz yogurt serving at that time, though I usually just kept it to 4 oz as that was adequately satisfying for me, and provided enough Protein for that particular meal/snack (though by that time I was also throwing in a few berries for added nutrition and variety.)

To feel full/satisfied. I’ve been packing my lunch and one item I pack us a Greek yogurt I’ve been eating for Breakfast (soft phase). I’m 8 weeks past surgery and my doc said I should eat 2-3 oz , 4 times a day. But that leaves me hungry. Today after eating my yogurt I realized it’s 5.4 oz. that seems to be the amount of food that gets me satisfied. I don’t want to start this lifestyle on the wrong foot. How many ounces you guys eating at 8 weeks? THANK U

I need to hit my macros and Protein bars help immensely. Here is something that will give the food police an apoplexy; I eat on average two protein bars a day. Can't stand shakes, never have. If I don't have the protein bars, I'll do the protein cakes. Once you get to maintenance and if you have an active lifestyle, your carbs and protein intake should be about the same.

Many users on here do see an issue with 22 g of carbohydrates or an even less amount and I personally think of this as kind of disturbing.

If I'm in a pinch and can't get a decent meal -mostly while traveling- I will grab a Quest bar (I only like 2 of them 😳) or Muscle Milk (non dairy) because I can find them almost everywhere.
If I plan ahead I can pack a Premier Protein shake or Great Value (candy style) Protein bar and keep it around.
I try to do both because sometimes you want to drink and sometimes you want to eat.
    Otherwise real food.
    Good Luck 💚

You won't find a Protein bar that's comparable to the almost-protein-only drinks. Not even the most shitty-tasting bars have comparable nutritional values.
It depends on how much fat and carbohydrates you're willing to accept as an addition to the bars and of course on personal taste if you're going to find a good or at least decent tasting bar.
The bars I eat occasionally would be ripped apart by the bariatric food police anyway so I'm not even trying to recommend them, lol.

It would be very hard to find one comparable in nutrition. If you choose to do this, be sure to check the sugar content. Most Protein Bars are glorified candy bars.
