    So very true!
  2. Just wondering, does anyone know.... if you get a cold will they postpone your surgery?
  3. My husband and I will both be banded this 30th. We have a 4 year old and are trying to decide what to tell him. If we say anything about a weight loss surgery he will tell everyone and we dont want that. Anyone else in the same boat?
  4. Thanks! It's just so hard for the young ones to understand.

    A bad Cold

How was your cold, what were your sympotoms? I am coughing and am all stuffed up.
  6. Just wondering....was anyones surgery postponed due to a bad cold or flu?
  7. Just wondering? So many doctors have so many different pre op diets to reduce the size of the liver. Low carb/ Low cal/ All liquid/ Some liquid some solid....1 day all liquid....3 weeks all liquid....no pre op diet at all....my guess is that they just must not know works best, if they did it wouldn't be so all over the board. My question is were any of you closed up at surgery due to a fatty liver and if so can you tell me what your pre op diet was? Thanks so much!
  8. Here is what I get............... Below are nutritional guidelines for the pre-op liquid diet. Depending on which items you choose to consume throughout the day, your intake should be ~1000 calories and 60-80 grams of Protein per day. The nutritional guidelines are as follows: Consume these liquids in moderation; they contain larger amounts of sugar. Juice, Gatorade®/G2®, Vitamin Water®, Life Water® or Powerade® – limit to 2 cups (16 oz) or less each day. (Try to choose juices lower in sugar such as apple, orange, or grapefruit). Regular Jell-O, popsicles, or no sugar added fudgesicles-3 or less servings each day 1 cup (8 oz) of milk (skim, 1%, Lactaid®, or 2%) or 6 oz. Light Yogurt (no more than 110 calories), ½ sugar free Jell-O pudding or ½ cup low-fat cottage cheese - 3 or less each day. EAS 100% whey Protein (Walmart) or Muscle Milk Light (Rite Aid) or Pure Protein shakes (Trader Joe’s) or Premier Protein (Costco) or No Added Sugar Carnation Instant Breakfast (Target) – limit to 2 a day. Do NOT BUY: Slim Fast, Ensure, Boost- these drinks are high in calories, fat and sugar. If you chose another brand of protein shakes, make sure it has less than or equal to 160 calories, less than or equal to 6 grams of fat, 15 grams or more of protein and less than or equal to 6 grams of sugar. These liquids can be taken in any amount since they do not contain sugar. Sugar-free beverages such as Crystal Light, Wyler’s Light, sugar-free Kool Aid or Sugar-free Tang, diet Snapple, diet sodas (remember you can only have carbonation before surgery, not after), Fruit2O®, Propel®, coffee or tea with sugar substitute, or Water. Broth Soups (chicken, beef, vegetable, miso)- tomato Soup is not a broth soup. It needs to be a clear liquid and can NOT contain bits and pieces of meats, tofu, noodles or vegetables. Sugar-free popsicles and sugar-free Jell-O
  9. I have a few different sakes, one has 25g one has 35g and one has 40g. They say we should have 60 to 80g a day and no more than 1000 cal a day. I guess I am not consuming enough? I get the protein in but only about 500 calories. But there is nothing else on my list to eat but dairy. I told them I was lactose intolerant but they say there are NO substitutions. OH and now my son who is 4 is wondering why Mommy and Daddy don't eat dinner with him anymore I was so sad ... and yes I cook him breakfast lunch and dinner AND snacks. I am a stay at home Mom...this is HELL!
  10. I am not telling anyone EXCEPT for my husband (he's getting a band too...we have the same surgery date) and My Mom and Dad and my husbands Mom and Dad. THATS IT! One thing that I have found out allong my lifes journey is that I tell too many people too much stuff about me. This time it's all in the family.

  12. I have heard it's 4 weeks.....but that's a guideline, I agree it's just so you dont pop a stich. I have a 4 year old who's 45 pounds and I have realized I pick him up all the time! I just have to be carefull because he's BIG but with a baby ... they dont weigh that much, right? I know ... tough!

    September 2009 Band Date

Smallerj......you are with Kaiser? How did that go? I have Kaiser but with them I would have had to gain weight to qualify. Then would have had meetings with them weekly (and my family) and then they also wanted 6 months of weight watchers before they would even consider me. It was just too much so I went with another group....did you have to deal with all of that?

    September 2009 Band Date

Hi All, can I join? I just got the go ahead for surgery Wednesday! I hope I will have my surgery date by today and was told it will be the last week of September. Here is my bummer, I have a liquid diet for 3 weeks! I wonder why mine is so long and some of you guys only have a few days? Hmmmm....And can I ask a question? What am I doing wrong? I can not get that cute ticker copied onto my signature, what am I doing wrong?
  16. Hello! I am going to my first eval visit at UCSD Wednesday and am loooking for other La Jollans! Any one want to share stories?
  17. Soexcited

    why am a starving now?

What does your diet look like? Is it only shakes? Maybe you can drink one right before you go to bed?
  18. PS....how do you get the cute weight ticker? I cant find it?
  19. Details eh? Well it was kinda boring with bouts off stress and anxiety. You check in at the desk and fill out a bit more paperwork then they call you in and weigh and measure you, take your blood pressure and then place you in a room and you WAIT! One by one they all come in, the dietitian, shrink, doc, surgeon. They each take turns with you, asking a lot of the same questions over and over to decide if they will do the band for you. I felt like a sorority girl waiting to see if I got pledged, very nerve wracking because there is so much waiting. The magazines in the office suck so you might want to bring a book and eat before you go so your tummy doesn't growl I can not believe we were there SOOOOOOOOOOO long!
  20. Hello! Well we had our consult today (my husband and I are both doing it). We were there FOREVER! my appointment was at 1.30 and my husbands at 2pm and we didnt leave the office till 5.30! They are great, very meticulous. At the end we got the go for surgerey and they will call us with dates. We will have 3 weeks of liquid diet before surgerey and should be banded by the end of September. So now I am officially weighed in and I can not gain one pound if I do they cancel the surgerey. So now I must be good and start loosing so it will be an easier fasting time.

new to this anyone frm wv

Hello! My husband and I are doing it together too! We go today to our first consult appointment ay UCSD and are both soooooooo excited. Have you chosen a doc yet?
  22. Hi Happy! You know I am not sure if we see Horgan, I am guessing yes. Did you go to the seminar? They told us there that wed see a few people including a dietitian and physiologist up to a 3 hour appointment. Where in the Inland Empire are you? We lived in Rancho Cucamonga for a while a few years ago. How did you wind up choosing UCSD...they are so far for you?
