  1. I didnt wind up taking my cymbalta yesterday because I took an Immodium and had a little problem with that going down just because of my gag reflex and then I took Diflucan for this nasty yeast infection I got from the IV antibiotics. I just didnt want to take too many pills and try to push the situation. But my Cymbalta (60 mg) pill is smaller than the Immodium and I was able to get that down just fine. Once I get something in my stomach this morning Im going to take the Cymbalta and will let you know how it goes!
  2. I was told Clear Liquids day 1-2 then full days 3-7. Today is day 5 but my doctor gave me the go ahead to try the pureed foods. As far as the mashed potatoes- I got the potato flakes and cooked them in the microwave with a little milk and lite margarine. Then when they were cooked I added more milk to thin them down really well. Im eating a little bit of refried Beans right now- I put them in the blender with some Water and blended them up then zapped em in the microwave. There are some bigger pieces in it so I think Im going to wait for a little bit to try this again. I dont want to screw anything up.
  3. Ack...sorry you had to go through this. Im dreading my first PB episode.
  4. I know I wont do too well on the pureed foods either becuase I have an issue with textures. But I just ate about 2 tbsp of thinned mashed potatoes and OH.MY.HEAVEN. Solid food!
  5. YAY Amanda! I havent taken my Cymbalta yet only because I took an Immodium and had a little trouble swallowing that- not becuase of the band but it got stuck on the back of my tongue and that makes me gag. So I was assuming the worst and thought it would come back up but it didnt.
  6. My doctor actually gave me a few wipes today when I was in her office that is used to take off tape residue. Otherwise Im not really sure.
  7. I have told people that I had the surgery and I have not received one negative comment. My family and friends are the BESTEST! I have even had some friends who were really inquisitive about the surgery and they wanted to hear all of the details. When the weight loss becomes really apparent I wont hesitate to tell people what I did. I think that if I can help just one person make a life altering decision because of something that I have done then its definitely worth it! But, im also not one to hold stuff in either- Im pretty much an open book and something this huge is not something that I could keep quiet about.
  8. hey girl- Just back from seeing my doc. My incisions look well and she took off the steri-strips. I havent looked at the incision where my port is but one of the smaller ones kinda freaks me out. Its wierd seeing a hole in your abdomen even if it is small. She game me an rx for diflucan for the yeast infection. YAY! She also said with the diarrhea that I can take immodium to help with that. Either the liquid or a tablet is fine. That is one of those things that I wish they would have told me I could do post-op. GRRRR. If I had known that then maybe I wouldnt be dealing with a sore backside. Definitely told me to start my anti-depressants back up. She said I shouldnt have any problem swallowing them right now since I have no restriction in my band. Ive been given the green light to go to the next stage of foods. YAY! Im going to try some applesauce right now and maybe a little later will try some thinned mashed potatoes. This really excites me!
  9. Congrats! I can't wait until Im a month post op and feeling as good as you!
  10. my mom has been going to a weekly lap-band support group meeting (her surgery is going to be in july) and they all told her that gel caps usually dont have any problems being swallowed whole. I have an appt with my doctor today so Im going to ask her about starting my Cymbalta back up and will let you know what she says. Its a capsule but it has beads inside and not the powder but I cant imagine it would be any different going down.
  11. oh yes- I have vomited several times since surgery. It was mostly dry heaves but I did actually throw a small amount up too.
  12. So Im 4 days post-op and am sitting here at my computer and I just feel like crying. Im so ready to be able to eat something a little more solid. Im ready to start feeling better. Its not that Im in a lot of pain- Im just tired of being tired and weak. Im drinking a s/f carnation instant Breakfast that has Protein in it and Im sure I need to try and get more protein in but the thought of a thick Protein shake just makes me want to gag. I guess Im also in mourning a little bit for the food that Im giving up for a while. The other day when I threw up after eating Jello I thought to myself "what in the world have I done? If I cant even hold jello down how in the world am I going to live the rest of my life and never be able to enjoy something that tastes good again?" Of course I know im being irrational- Im still completely swollen from surgery but food was my best friend before and I've lost that for the time being. I KNOW that I made the best decision for myself, my husband, and my kids but right now Im just having a pity party. I will be so glad when Im a month or two out and can look back on today and think it was just a blip on the radar screen. But right now Im struggling. It also doesnt help that I havent taken my anti-depressant since before surgery. I might try to do that but im scared that I will throw it back up. Anyways, thanks for letting me vent. Did anybody else go through this feelings so shortly after surgery?

day 6 and still soooo gassy....

Im right there with you...Im day 4 post op and the pressure from the gas is just really getting old.
  14. My post-op restrictions say no driving for 24 hours after surgery. Did your doctor give longer restrictions for driving post surgery?
  15. Sorry you have been having so many issues and I hope that you start to feel better soon.

    Protein Shake

Ive lost a lot of weight post op myself- 13 lbs so far since the day before surgery. But I did a low carb/high protein diet 2 weeks before surgery and even though my clothes fit differently the scale didnt move. Then 1 day of clear liquids before surgery and now Im on clear liquids 4 days post op. I was told I could move to full liquids and he said the protein shakes would be ok but I just dont think I can handle them yet. I might give it a try because I do think I need some protein but wont be surprised if I cant handle it.
  17. I was put on Metformin for PCOS and decided to get off of it because of the size of the pill. The PCOS should get better with losing weight so I felt ok with that decision.
  18. wickwit- too funny. I have had coughing episodes but fortunately for me it hasnt caused too much pain. I KNOW Im not getting enough Water in or Protein but right now the thought of Protein shakes makes me want to puke. I could send DH to the store to get some ensure or slimfast but Im going to try and drink some of my carnation instant Breakfast and see if that helps. Im going to also do vegetarian vegetable Soup strained to get some more liquids in.
  19. Thanks guys! The only other major surgery I've had before was my 2 prior c-sections and I did have horrible depression after both of those but those were extreme circumstances and the reason why I refuse to get pregnant again. So I wasnt expecting to feel like this after an elective surgeyr that I have been so looking forward to. But I called my mom, had a good cry, then got nauseous and did some dry heave/burping and then vomited once, then laid down to take a nap. (And let me tell ya- the dry heave burping combo is a doozy- I have never heard that kind of noise come out of anybody's mouth- it was like an exorcism was before performed! LOL!) Im feeling a little better now- I just wish this low grade fever would go away. Its never gotten above 99.5 so its nothing for me to call my doc about but Im wondering how long that will last?
  20. Welcome and good luck with your upcoming surgery!

    Scale?

I have a WW scale that I got at Bed Bath and Beyond about 5 years ago when DH and I were on the program. It does weigh about 1 lb higher than at the doctors office but I too weigh myself first thing in the morning totally naked.
  22. Thanks Nicole! Im glad to know that Im not alone! On a brighter note for today- THERE IS A FOOTBALL GAME ON TV! This makes me completely happy! I dont even care if it is pre-season! WOOT WOOT!

    Itchy incisions?

yep- mine itch too and its driving me crazy. Im itching around the incision but sometimes that is just not good enough. The feeling eventually passes though. Sometimes I will get a pillow to put on my stomach and then put a little pressure over the area and that seems to help.
  24. day 2 post op is when I was having issues with vomiting too. The only thing I can think of with your pills is to take a few and then wait 30 minutes and take the rest.
  25. YAY! Congrats on being banded and Im glad you are feeling so well! I dont have to do the blood thinner injections but I can tell you that from when I had to give myself fertility shots its not too bad. The first one was the worst becuase I was freaked out that I was giving myself an injection but the needle is so small and you can hardly feel it.
