  1. I felt horrible for about a week after surgery. I was running a low grade temp and was nauseous too. Did your doc give you nausea medicine? That helped me somewhat. It wasnt until I started drinking my protein shakes that I started feeling better. I guess my body didn't like the lack of nutrition it was getting. Hang in there! It will get better!

    Solid Foods

    yep for me solid foods means resuming my normal diet. I get to go on solids this monday! YAY!
  3. I went to my first support group meeting this past Tuesday. Each hospital has their own support group and the one I went to was run by the bariatric coordinator for the hospital. For the first hour the girls did a Zumba exercise class which I did not participate in and then the last hour the girls just talked about any problems they were having. Next meeting we are all bringing our favorite holiday recipes and coming up with a menu then it will be turned into the dietician and chef for the hospital and they are going to come up with ways to make them bariatric friendly. Then the next bariatric cooking class they are going to make some of the items that we brought in! They have the cooking classes 2 times a month!
  4. I started my period a week early and was on it when I had my surgery. They just gave me mesh panties and a pad to put on and they did not have to do a catheter during surgery. Even if they did they are probably pretty used to it and its not a big deal to them.

  6. IDK- I was just thinking about this in the way home. I think Im going to go back and do the pre-op low carb/high protein for a few weeks until my first fill. Even after my fill I do plan on staying low carb but want to incorporate fruits into my diet so at least they are good carbs.
  7. I knew there was no way I could handle normal foods pureed in the blender. So I stuck to mashed potatoes, refried Beans, and cream of wheat during the pureed stage. I dont feel any restriction either but unlike you I am hungry. I can not wait for my first fill to start getting a little restriction (hopefully).
  8. My body temperature seems to have changed since surgery and when I take my temp its always in the 99's. But if you think you have fluid in your lungs then definitely go to your PCP and have it checked out. You dont want to end up with pneumonia.
  9. UGH- the scale is moving the wrong way. I gained another lb yesterday. I need to get off my butt and start exercising. I can't wait until I get my first fill. I have an appt with my doctor on Sept 13th and Im hoping she will do a fill then.

    Banded and feeling sad?

    The 4th day post-op I called my mom 3 times that day bawling each time. I was feeling crappy, I was hungry, and I wanted to eat. I talked with a friend of mine who is a nurse and had the surgery and she said post surgery blues are common. Luckily for me I can get back on my anti-depressants to help with that.

    Zumba

    I went to my first bariatric support group meeting tonight and they had an instructor there to give a Zumba class. I didn't participate since Im just 2 weeks post op but it did look fun although I just kept thinking "no way can I do that. This white girl cant dance". so I dont know- I might give it a try sometime but more than likely will just stick with regular boring workouts.
  12. I came across your blog while I was in the process of researching the lap-band and waiting on my insurance to kick in. It was inspirational then and inspirational now. Im 2 weeks post op and you have given me and many others such a huge motivation! CONGRATS on your weightloss and thank you so much for sharing your story!
  13. My doctors office said to take a multi-vitamin and a calcium supplement every day. I am doing Flintstone's for the vitamin but havent started the calcium yet.
  14. Im not sure what your doctor is considering mushies. I had a pureed stage which was basically anything that I theoretically could drink through a straw. Although there were some things I ate that didnt fit that bill. I did thinned down mashed potatoes, refried Beans, cream of wheat with s/f maple syrup and splenda, and then of course Soups and Protein shakes.

    Regular food timeline?

    I will start regular foods next monday which will be 19 days post surgery.
  16. I moved to soft foods today so I had a baked potato and some green beans. It felt so good to actualy be able to chew something even if it was soft.
  17. First appt was Jan 25th and I was banded August 4th. I could have been banded the middle of july but we were going on vacation and didnt want to be recovering from surgery while on vacation. I also had to do a 6 month doctor led diet.
  18. yeah- Ive been on mushies for the past week and have gained 2 or 3 lbs. I knew it would happen but it still sucks.
  19. Im 11 days out and today hunger has really set in. I get to start soft foods tomorrow so hopefully that will help some.
  20. Congrats to you! Enjoy your new bracelet! I think Im going to do something like this too for each of my goals that I want to reach. A new bracelet for 50 then a new charm for each mini goal that I set!
  21. I've heard of people having problems with rice after being banded- I believe it expands and causes it to get stuck.
  22. Hey guys- Im feeling pretty good today other than my allergies acting up. I went out to eat at my favorite mexican food restaurant yesterday and surprised myself with how well I did. No chips for me at all. YAY! I ordered refried Beans and queso and mixed them together and ate just a little bit and brought so much home I have food for the next week! LOL! However, now that Im putting food into my stomach I've gained a couple of lbs. I figured it would happen but it still makes me nervous. I get to start soft foods tomorrow- baked potato, canned fruit and veggies, eggs, etc. Im very excited about that! Ive been lazy and havent started exercising yet but Im going to get all of the crap off the treadmill today and at least walk 10 mins. My goal is 10 mins every day this week and then try and build up from there.
  23. yeah- Im normally a very hot natured person and have noticed that I have been really cold a lot too. Hopefully this will even out somee- I dont mind being a little cooler but not freezing all the time.
  24. I had 2 previous c-sections and my lap-band was a walk in a park compared to my c-sections.
