It's been a few weeks, and it's a done deal!

I did have the surgery Jan 19th. All went very smoothly for the most part. I was really impressed and happy with Dr. Aceves and his staff. Hubby and I were surprised at how accommodating they are. I have had to contact Dr. Aceves office several times for questions etc. and they always reply with in a few hours, on the other hand, I can call my local doc and wait hours and sometime days to get an answer or response back. Doesn't make any sense to me. I did have one complication from surgery and that is a blood clot in my left arm as a result of the IV from surgery. I noticed a lump on my arm after being home several days and ended up in the ER room twice as a result. The good news is that my arm is much improved. At the beginning it would swell and hurt quite a bit. Now only my hand hurts. So I'm pretty sure it's on the mend. It was scary though as my family doc explained that it can break up and move to your brain/lungs or heart and kill you. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. I've done really well with liquids and have sucessfully gone through phase I & II of my post op diet. This saturday I can start eating mushies. I'm so looking forward to that. I really haven't been hungry much at all, so it's more that I'd like to be chewing. A few times (just for a second) I've had that "What have I done" question pop into my head, but it leaves very quickly. I know this is the best thing I could have done for myself. I only wish this would have been available 20 years ago. I think my life, like so many others would have been so different. Oh well, we are who we are because of what we've been through. I don't want to end up like all my other family members (DEAD). My mother died of Lups in her 50s. My dad died of cancer in his 60's. My brother died of complications from diabetis in his 40's. Obviously these things run in families. Hopefully this surgery will help me to be healthy and live a longer life. More later when time permits. :001_tt2:

    Small Cold Need some advice

One thing that works great for me is gargling with warm salt water several times a day. It definitely works. I was also reading an article recently that stated if you gargle with warm salt water daily it would prevent you from getting the flu because the germs take several days to get from your throat to your body.

Can someone analyze what I'm eating pls?

I'm almost 4 weeks out and have been having a hard time getting in over 500 calories per day. My protein has been right at 70, and carbs about 20 - 30 per day. A few days I barely made it to 600. I think once I am able to eat a few more things (I'm on mushies) I will be able to do 600 - 800 calories per day which is what my doc recommended. It sure is a learning process isn't it?

    Unjury Unflavored Protein

I aboslutely hated the Unjury. I tried every way possible to get them down and just couldn't stomach the smell or the taste. I think everyone is different though, some like it and others not so much. Even the unflavored made me gag.
  10. Best wishes Margo. Looking forward to hearing your journey.

    Buffet??

Most Chinese buffets have egg drop soup, that would be an option. Also, some have boiled shrimp or boiled crab legs, both of those would be ok also.
  13. Just wanted to say "Happy Birthday"!

  14. Hi Brenda, I'm doing pretty good so far. I am enjoying some mushy food for a change. The only mushy food I've tried so far is scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and refried beans. This weekend I'll move up to chicken salad, tuna salad and see how I do with it. Have you have any issues with food going down? I find it so hard to beleive we are only allowed to eat 2 ozs per meal, and are not suppose to have snack. :o My arm is still giving me problems unfortunately. Glad you are doing ok.

  15. Stuck, It really isn't so bad. I mean when you think about it, (if you are a meat eater) we eat cow muscles, no? I drink one daily. Eventually I want to get all my protein from food, but until I can eat enough food, I'll use the bullets to supplement. I just find if I take little bitty sips from it I can get one down a day easily. :001_unsure:

    Just been sleeved

Bitsy, I'm still not able to swallow pills either. I've found that if I mix them with either Liquid protein shot, or Crystal light in a small medicine cap it's a little easier to get them down. I too have several that are horrid tasting and it's not very easy to get them down. Hope that helps and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

    Home from Mexicali

Firefly, welcome to the losers bench. So glad everything went well. I was so cold for about two weeks after surgery, but it's getting much better now. I did have a few down days, but for the most part it's been pretty smooth change. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

    Hello... I'm getting a revision :)

Diva, I really can't speak highly ENOUGH about Dr. Aceves. I did lots of research before deciding to go out of the country. I couldn't find anything negative about him or his staff. The hospital was awesome, extremely clean, and well run. They don't mess around. All his staff spoke very good english. Everything was explained in great detail, and they made sure that you understood everything in advance. I never once felt compromised during my whole stay there. The hospital was full of Americans and a few Canadians. So I made several good friends while there. My husband traveled there with me, and he too felt very safe and was really rather amazed at how great the Docs and hospital staff were. On top of all that, Dr. Aceves has done hundreds of sleeves without a single leak. He explained to me prior to surgery, that the method he uses has been extremely safe and effective and for that reason, he refuses to change it or take any shortcuts.
