  1. Mine is 36, but over sewed to be closer to a 34. I am able to eat 1/4 a cup or 2 oz per meal. I'm one month out and my weight loss since surgery has been 17.5 lbs.

    Newbie - Made my decision

Avilda & Fitatfifty, welcome to the forums! Congrats on your sleeve decisions as well. I personally think the sleeve is the only way to go, but I am a bit biased too. Best wishes to you both!

    Boughie size comparison

Stuck, before I had my surgery I would just jot down questions I wanted to ask my Doc, but to be honest with you, I didn't ask very many once there because he was so detailed in our dicussion the day before surgery that he pretty much asnwered every one of my questions before I could ask them. There are several good threads on this forum with lists of questions to ask your doc if you are interested in those. I'll see if I can find one and post the link. :001_smile:

    Portion Size

My instructions were to never eat more than 2oz at a time. That's pretty much what I've been sticking to. So far I haven't felt hungry after stopping at the 2 oz so it must be the right amount for my tummy.

Welcome bobcat! This site is a great information source and if you can't find your question answered in previous posts, just ask.
  13. I'm so excited for you. You will do fine. You are strong enough and your positive outlook will help you get through the first couple of weeks which can be a little stressful and uncomfortable. Hang in there and keep up the positive attitude. It does make a difference.
  14. Last night for Valentines Day we went out to eat dinner. I have to tell you I was terrified. At home in my cozy little house, I can take forever to eat and not worry about the consequences or anyone else noticing. I have to admit, I was a bit aprehensive! First thing I did was try to order Decaf Iced tea, and was told they didn't have any. So I ordered Water, and then remembered I can't drink anyway! :crying: I must have read the menu 30 times trying to figure out what to order if anything at all. I ended up ordering some Soup which I was able to handle ok. I took one piece of shrimp off my hubbys plate and one (about 1/2 oz) of chicken off my daughters plate and put it on a little plate. That's all I had and was full!! I was so shocked I couldn't beleive it. They brought these great bread sticks out that looked fantastic and it never even bothered me one bit. Normally I would have pigged out and been so full on the bread sticks and still stuffed my meal down after those. This thing really works. Every new phase, and every new experience is a big adjustment and it makes me feel so out of my element, but once you've passed that incident or that stage it gets easier and easier. This I SO WORTH IT!!
  15. Mellaella, Congratulations on your date. Wishing you a smooth surgery.

It's been a few weeks, and it's a done deal!

I did have the surgery Jan 19th. All went very smoothly for the most part. I was really impressed and happy with Dr. Aceves and his staff. Hubby and I were surprised at how accommodating they are. I have had to contact Dr. Aceves office several times for questions etc. and they always reply with in a few hours, on the other hand, I can call my local doc and wait hours and sometime days to get an answer or response back. Doesn't make any sense to me. I did have one complication from surgery and that is a blood clot in my left arm as a result of the IV from surgery. I noticed a lump on my arm after being home several days and ended up in the ER room twice as a result. The good news is that my arm is much improved. At the beginning it would swell and hurt quite a bit. Now only my hand hurts. So I'm pretty sure it's on the mend. It was scary though as my family doc explained that it can break up and move to your brain/lungs or heart and kill you. Not exactly what I wanted to hear. I've done really well with liquids and have sucessfully gone through phase I & II of my post op diet. This saturday I can start eating mushies. I'm so looking forward to that. I really haven't been hungry much at all, so it's more that I'd like to be chewing. A few times (just for a second) I've had that "What have I done" question pop into my head, but it leaves very quickly. I know this is the best thing I could have done for myself. I only wish this would have been available 20 years ago. I think my life, like so many others would have been so different. Oh well, we are who we are because of what we've been through. I don't want to end up like all my other family members (DEAD). My mother died of Lups in her 50s. My dad died of cancer in his 60's. My brother died of complications from diabetis in his 40's. Obviously these things run in families. Hopefully this surgery will help me to be healthy and live a longer life. More later when time permits. :001_tt2:

    Small Cold Need some advice

One thing that works great for me is gargling with warm salt water several times a day. It definitely works. I was also reading an article recently that stated if you gargle with warm salt water daily it would prevent you from getting the flu because the germs take several days to get from your throat to your body.
