Had my band unfill because I took a 12 hour flight roundtrip to UK from US and the 24 hours in the air tightened my band so tight I could barely get Fluid down tried to wait it out but weight just dropped off and I must say I loved it but my Drs and husband were not impressed. My husband pushed for an unfill . . . . a complete unfill until I could gain the 30 lbs I had lost since the trip (2 months). I had never been unfilled since I had the Band in 2009. Went for the complete unfill against my will and gained 30 lbs really fast with band being that tight it was like being on a strict diet and then stopping . . . weight just pours on. Now I am refilling but it is not the same. Never and I say never get a complete unfill unless no other answer to fix the problem. Take out half, take out 3/4 don't take out all. I always believed and still believe the less you mess with your band the less chances you have to to have problems

    Samantha C ,
I always kept a tight band too just never get a complete unfill because you will never get that same feeling again. I miss my tight band had to have an unfill because took a long airline trip and band tightened up even more tight I lost too much weight and they talked me into a complete unfill just to let my body have a rest and gain some weight BIG MISTAKE, only take some out NEVER take all out I guess unless you have a slip or you will never find that good old feeling again. I am refilling now and they are taking forever to do it nothing feels the same. If I ever get back to the same spot they will have to strap me down to remove any fill

I have had my band since 2009 also and I plan on having it for a long time. Sometimes it gets too tight on it's own and I have to go have an unfill. I also have been one who since I have had it vomit alot no matter how I try to eat, small and slow bites but I have never slipped thank God. Just try to follow all the rules and you should be fine.

I have had my band since 2009 and I have had friends who like to stay tight and some who like to stay really loose. I have chosen to keep my Band tight which requires you to adjust your lifestyle to that. Smaller bites and chewing even more. I can eat and drink just fine just prefer to stay tighter than other people. No bite of pizza or Hamburger has passed these lips in 4 years and that has helped me. Maybe not you or someone else but it has helped me.

Welcome to a day in the life. We all experience what we term as bandster hell when we are first banded and we don’t have that right level of “restriction”. It’s the holy grail that we bandsters search for. It’s that spot between just right and too tight….and some of us walk that line pretty close and even those of us that think we are not walking that line, could be sitting right on it and all it takes is one small thing to push you over it and I'm over it.
In July I had a fill that left me in my just right zone. I was feeling good and eating small portions and working out and banded life was just great. Enter my “real” life and all that goes out the window. I have great band mechanics. I take small bites I chew chew chew. I eat within my 20 minute range time, and I have so much stress in my life I don’t know how I have not had several breakdowns. Must be that spine of steel I often joke about and those brass balls that I keep in a nice little box.
I could tell you stories my band friends that would probably curl your hair. There is going to be a time when I sit down and write out all these things because you couldn’t make these things up if you tried and who the heck would want to?! I know we all have our ups and downs but these things are extraordinary, it just doesn't lend to that comic genius in my writing just yet but someday I'll work on it.
I am not one that doesn’t practice what she preaches. In fact I won’t sit and talk about anything in a support group that I don’t know about. I am one of those avid learners (yes you might say geek) that will go to school, learn it practice it and then speak about it. Recently I went back to school to become a nutritionist, it’s important to me and my friend and my family so I did it!
I really don't have an affinity for people that talk out their ass, or people who look down their nose at people like me because we are obese. It's hard to listen to the twiggy nutritionists talk when they have no idea what it's like to be in my skin. Words are great, but experience, understanding and empathy is what reaches me.
OK so my BIG problem….I do too much!
I don’t know how to slow down until something crashes into me literally and so that brings me to where I find myself today. In the last couple of months I have had a major car accident, that kept me out of work for 3 whole days! To me that’s a long time, and has kept my body in aches and pains, muscle trauma, and a concussion for about a month. I had to stop going to the gym and working out and I really felt like that was a huge set back for me after finishing my first 5K and finally starting to feel like going to the gym wasn’t the heart attack it once was.
On top of that I got sick and had swollen glands and this lovely virus on top of my allergies which has me sliming my head off day and night. Over the course of all this and all the medication that Dr.’s shove down your throat for this symptom and that, my band got tighter and tighter and tighter until last night I hiccupped and (TMI gross alert) vomit came shooting out my mouth and across the room from the sip of Water I just drank!
I knew I had to get to the baratric Dr. this was just not right. I knew I had been tight, and I knew that stress was not letting up any time soon. 5 kids, who have varying degrees of drama they like to give their mother a heart attack with on a nearly minute to minute basis, one husband, and then we have two new additions to our family. The furry four legged kind two lovely little PinTzu’s. They are the joy to my day in the morning and at night after a rough work day, but you know what it’s just like having new babies. I love it and the hubs is getting used to it he has never had dogs before so much of the pressure to “train” them all husband and pups and family members that live at home is on me to keep consistency.
This morning I woke up and I could barely take my morning meds, and swallow my saliva. Add to that some post nasal drip from being sick and allergies and I knew it was time to see the doctor ASAP. So I called and wouldn’t you know I got the whole we don’t open till 9 am thing. Which is BS I know they are there early in the morning but they don’t open the phone lines until 9 and I wasn’t waiting. I drove straight there and of course once I got there and I told them what was going on with me..they took me in right away.
I went down for a video esophageal or barium swallow and x-ray. Wouldn't you know it, sure enough that pouch was dilated. They had to remove 5cc of Fluid and I am now on a 3 week liquid diet to see if the dilation goes back to normal.
Ugh, but you know what I have to say…nothing bad! I am grateful that I have a great Dr.’s office and good doctors to take care of me. I am glad that I did not wait for longer to get myself in there and have things checked out so my band didn’t slip or prolapse. I’m confident that I can make it through this liquid diet I have done it before and I will do it again!
It is a lesson to learn, a BIG BIG one for me. I can’t tell you how many friends of mine have told me time and again to slow down and stop doing so much to just relax and let things flow. I really honestly have an issue with it. I can be lazy sure we all can and I do have days where I do nothing but vege out and watch TV or read. Most of the time though I just cram every second with something.
There are things I want to do, and I find I am always battling against the things that I have to do, and my “responsibilities” and commitments. Those things make me feel pressured to be more and do more. It’s exhausting and I always get to the point where something has to knock me down to sit me down. This can’t be a good thing.
So here I am in band “reset” mode. What have I learned from this….? Or perhaps the better question is what will I learn from this?
So far today I have learned that I need to put up some really strong boundaries. I can’t save the world unless of course the power that be would like to get behind my idea of dropping large portions of Prozac in the Water supply of all the middle eastern and certain other countries....happy people just don't decapitate other people.
I don’t know quite yet how I am going to corral the issues that I have with my children and my family, those seem to plague me the worst. I have come to realize that work is work and I can give that 100% of effort in relation to the amount of effort extrapolated by those around me which should leave me with plenty of reserve energy to get to the gym and take care of myself.
I am going to set some small goals, and keep myself accountable to them. Not just when it comes to my band but when it comes to taking care of myself as a whole person. I am going to keep myself accountable…
    Today’s goal:
Body: Set a pattern for liquid diet protocol and hydrate in between.
Mind: Get outside for some fresh air
    Soul: Practice some deep breathing

Today is my Four-Year Bandiversary and I'm starting to get a bit emotional as I type this. Wasn't expecting that. Getting the Lap-Band is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Although, I've been at a plateau for most of the time I've had the band, it is starting to come off again. I've lost 11lbs since my last fill in April. Slow, but it's moving in the right direction and that's what counts. And, I only weight about 25lbs more than my big Lab (He's a big, old boy, who I've been feeding healthier food this Summer, in an effort for him to lose weight, but I don't think it's working much).
I'm 31lbs from my official goal, but as I've always said, I may decide to stop before. It all depends on how I feel. And it does feel good that people have been noticing this recent weight loss.
I realize I've been pretty lucky. I've not had really any complications. I've had enough 'stuck episodes' to know that they suck big time. Especially if you are out somewhere. And for me that's tough, because I chose not to tell people at work. The only ones that know are the office nurse (she can't tell) and a very, trusted (now former) supervisor. And he promised that he'd take my secret to his grave.
Anyhow, I did this for myself, not for anyone else (for the most part). I'd be lying if I said I didn't want more attention from guys, but I really want to be healthier and just feel good about myself. So, I continue on this journey. And, wish good luck to you all in your journeys.

July 13th was 4 years for me. I have not been here in a long time and I miss it. Will be fun to see people I have not seen in a long time. Have been doing good keeping the weight off. On some meds that cause some weight gain so trying to battle that but need the med so seem to be managing it. How is everyone? Everyone in my support group has moved on the other operations and I am the only Band but it is working for me so I am keeping it.

Congratulations. I saw your post about the preop diet and your concerns. Think positive, think long term. As one who is banded nearly ten months now, and down around 90 lbs., I can tell you that the difference in my life is enormous. I am still overweight, but no longer obese. I can fit into any seat/chair/booth out there and I feel normal again.
Think about those victories to come and keep your eyes on the prize. Good luck!!

Maybe I'm being over sensitive or whatever. I havent been on the board that long, but I've been getting the feeling lately that there are "veterans" on this board (I'm using this term loosely cuz I'm certainly not talking about everybody here) are looking down your noses at those they like to fondly refer to as newbys. Like most of us, I appreciate some good pointers and advice but sort of resent the attitude I see here alot about newbys (and I hate that term) need to be told how to feel or what they are feeling and basically how to get this thing right. There are those on this board, and to name a few, Carolinagirl and Mis73, whose opinion and advice I truly respect and are not among the ones I'm referring to here. There are others that just seem to be trying to impress others with how much they know about the banding process and their ability to lose weight. Newsflash!!! You're no better at it than any of us! After all, you too needed WLS to get your weight under control. Thats why we are here, all of us. I get it! You lost your weight in record time. You did great. Yea!!! I may or may not do everything the same way as you did. Ill try different things until I find what works for me. But, give us a break already. Guess some of us are still in the learning phase. I plan to always be in the learning phase cuz I have a problem with obesity and that may not ever be totally resolved. Like I said, that's why I'm here. I just want you guys to know, that those of you who offer nonjudgemental advice and options, I appreciate it. Those of you who just want to strut your stuff and impress the rest of us "newbys" with your awesome wealth of knowledge about lapbanding..............rants over. Just sayin.

I have a friend who thought she was going from Band to Sleeve. The surgeon took out her Band and then she was suppose to wait 5 months. When she went in and he opened her he said her liver had attached itself to her stomach and she was no longer able to have any type of WLS. So I would suggest if you do convert do it in one process. I am not sure how many people this happens to but it is common after any surgery. You can research it.
My other friends who converted to Sleeve and one to By-Pass did Band removal and conversion at the same time and they were fine.

I wanted to reply so you do not seem alone in this. My advice to you is to see if another Dr might see you on an emergency basis and let you pay it out.
Also only eat what you are suppose to even if you can eat more, just stop, measure it out. You have worked so hard I do not want you to gain it back.
I know the more experience bandsters will be along soon with the good advice. But you do need to get in and have a flouro and see if everything is okay does not sound like it. Call some more doctors and see if someone will work with you. I think when you have paid so much to your Surgeon he/she should see you. Did you try talking to Dr himself or office manager. Or if you can just go there and demand to be seen. They took your money now you need their help.
