  1. Just walked 2.1 miles for the third time in a week! A new pair a walking shoes and an ipod make a world of difference!

I was banded on August 20, took two weeks off where I slowly built up walking. Last week I went back to work and by the time I got home, there was no energy for exercise. I decided this week that I had to start building up my stamina in the evenings so I bought some new tennis shoes. They sure do add spring to my step. I borrowed my daughter's ipod (she made me a play list of songs I picked out).

Monday, I'll be 4 weeks from surgery and plan to get back to zumba class...slowly. I can do a lot of the moves, just need to be careful with waist twists and crunches. I probably won't stay a full hour the first night, but I'll give it a shot.

  2. DesertRose, I think we all have had some version of this frustration. I got very upset with my insurance coordinator more than once during the process. In fairness to the insurance coordinators out there, there is a ton of documentation to submit for each patient with a very anxious patient calling or emailing. The only way to get a quicker surgery, is to self pay. You will get your approval, just try to distract yourself during the wait.

  3. I am way to old to have more babies, but most doctors will tell you that losing weight helps with fertility and in fact to be more careful (contraceptive wise) as you lose large amounts of weight. You will find several folks in your age bracket under the group, pregnancy after lap band.

    Good luck to you!

  4. I had lost 80 then gained 30 back. Old habits returned, but the bigger reason was that my doc over the last year was able to document that I had a leak. I just had my band removed and replaced.

See your doc, but in the interim consider giving yourself a jump start by going on a liquid diet. I was on liquids two weeks pre- and post-op which resulted in 20# of weight loss. That in itself has really motivated me plus it detoxed by body of the sugar and carbs and made me lose the cravings. I have gone to soft foods this week, but staying away from sugar and most carbs. I do feel better.

  5. I have a second band, but my problem was the first band had a leak. My doc wanted to revise to a sleeve when he took out the defective band, but my insurance refused to pay. In fact, it took almost four months for them to agree to put in a replacement band and not just remove the leaky one.

As for revision after a slip, google for academic quality articles on what to do after a band slippage. You may find that slips are more frequent in a second band if it happened with the first. Also, research the statistics on the sleeve, then find out what your insurance will pay with regard to revision. This should give you enough information to make a decision.

  7. Thanks, it has been a beautiful day! I just got in from renewing my driver's license. I changed the weight to my goal weight of 165. Only 41 pounds to go! That is closer to the real weight than the weight that was on the license. I had not changed it since high school.
