    stuck feeling - please help

Hi Everyone Thank you so much for your responses, I apologise if I appeared hysterical - I was 3 hours away from home with people who just didn't understand what I was going through, whilst I was really upset about this sensation that wouldn't pass, they were busy making plans to go out for dinner (very helpful). I didn't have contact details with me for anyone who could help me, it was just awful. The sensation is still there today, I have done some research and it seems it is quite common (although I couldn't find a solid answer for why) and it can last for weeks (please god, don't let it last for weeks!). Anyway, I rang my surgeon but he wasn't available so I have an appointment to see his partner surgeon on Wednesday afternoon. Thank you again for helping me through my psychotic moment!

    MissK!!! How are you??

Hi Kate Thanks so much for asking; I have been a little absent from the forums. I coped well with hospital, apart from the god-awful gas pain. I am currently being driven insane by some awful sensation that feels like my stomach is in my throat, apparently this is caused by swelling but I have made an appointment with my surgeon for Wednesday just in case it hasn't passed. It's making me miserable, I hope it passes soon. How are you?
  4. am 5 days post op and have had no issues - I have travelled 3 hours as a passenger in a car and ALL day I have felt like there is something stuck in my throat . WHY

  8. it is driving me mad. i have been walking heaps and trying to burp but nothing helps. Please help!
  9. Hi Sweetness

Thanks for your message, sorry to hear you have been a bit down. I am doing really well, still quite sore in the tummy but getting better day by day - my biggest hurdle is that I have strained a muscle in my back, makes it hard to get comfortable in bed at night.

I am sort of doing my own thing with diet - they have said liquid, so liquid it is. I am having protein shakes (2 or 3 per day) plus about 1/4 cup of smooth yoghurt, a V8 juice box and about 3/4 cup of runny/smooth soup - I am also having a soluable multivitamin and I've had the occasional cup of tea.

Are you starting to feel any better?

  11. Hi Guys I am scheduled to be banded in just over 9 weeks time, on 18th August; my surgeon has asked me to do the optifast diet for 14 days prior to surgery to shrink the fat around my liver, so that commences on 4th August. I met with the nutritionist yesterday, and told her I was planning on commencing a self-imposed health kick as of tomorrow to get my mind and body into the right mindset. I asked her whether any other lap band patients had done something similar and she advised me that she had never had another patient come through and voluntarily kick-start their weight loss early; in fact, most of the patients had basically gone on a massive eating binge right up until the mandatory pre-op diet commenced. I started to second guess myself and wonder whether I am making the right choice here; but I've decided that this is the right decision for me. I'm interested to know whether any of you chose to voluntarily kick-start your own pre-op diet, whether you were one of the binge eaters, or whether you just existed in blissful ignorance until the mandatory pre-op diet kicked in... and, why? Wish me luck...

Well guys and girls, it is 10pm on Monday night in Australia which means there are only 10 hours left until I need to be at the hospital to be prep'd for surgery. I have a feeling it is going to be a long, restless night but I shall try hard to get some rest... the future begins tomorrow. I am not sure if I can access LBT from my mobile, so until I return, thank you for your support this far... I look forward to sharing the rest of the journey with you all. I must say that I am crapping my pants, however, they say that you never know how strong you can be until you have no other choice... I've got this, lets do it!
  14. So, my parents have travelled a LONG way to be here with me for my surgery and they arrived tonight, my brother and his wife showed up for a visit and as 7pm rocked around they all realized they were hungry, so off they go and pick up KFC and bring it back to my house and sit up on the couch and eat it - I excused myself, and here I am on LBT via my iPod whilst I sit in a bath trying to avoid the situation out there. I can't say I am pleased. I acknowledge that other people need to eat but I specifically made a call to my mother yesterday to see what she would like from the store - and the reason I did this was to avoid having people eating strong smelling fast foods in front of me. I made a comment about it and the response was a quickly snapped "well, we DO have to eat" --- yes, they do, but must they make my house stink of KFC? Am I being too sensitive about this, or are they being inconsiderate?

    anyones insurance cover fills???

Same as Sarah, my after care is included in the cost of surgery (although it doesn't have a 2 year time limit).

    I'm back!

Congrats Sarah - the gas is giving me a lot of pain/pressure around the sternum as well. Hope you are feeling well.

    Wish me luck...

Hi Everyone, I am now home, just showered and about to go and have a little sleep. The surgery was quick and smooth; I arrived at the hospital at 8am yesterday morning and was on the operating table by 8.45am - my surgeon came in and grabbed my hand and said "I am so proud of you, down 9kg (20lbs) since your consult, are you ready?" and I said "As ready as I'll ever be" and before I knew it I was out cold. I woke up 90 minutes later in recovery, not even realising the operation had taken place; I asked the nurse 3 times if it was over yet before she lifted my gown to show me the incisions to prove to me that it was done. They then gave me a shot of morphine for the pain. I was then transferred to my room at approximately 11am where I dozed on and off for most of the day. By late afternoon I was starting to suffer from pain from the gas, but frustratingly, it took the nursing staff until 8pm that night (and being snarled at by my mother) to get me out of bed and allow me to walk around and use the bathroom, as I wasn't hooked up to a mobile trolley for the IV Fluids. I had a rough night's sleep, the was an elderly lady down the hall screaming out "somebody please help me" and then crying loudly - another patient that had been there for seven nights said she does it all night, every night and whenever the staff go in to help her, she doesn't actually need anything. The staff came in at 4am to check my wounds (why they do it at 4am is beyond me) and asked how I was, I said I was in pain and I was told "that's to be expected" and wasnt given any pain relief. At 8am this morning the surgeon dropped in and told me that everything went perfectly, that the band is sitting in a great position and there were no complications at all. He said I was okay to go home as long as I was keeping fluids down, so I called the nursing staff and asked them to discharge me straight away. I am feeling okay, I have gotten down about 2 cups of fluid since I got home and I'm not really feeling sick or hungry - the gas pains are not nice though, either is the pain around the port... but I just need to be tough, it will subside with time. Thank you for your well wishes x x

    Those that have been banded.....

    OMG... just, OMG.
  21. They insisted on being here to look after me whilst I went through this, which I am grateful for; and I offered to go to the store and get anything they may need to eat here in the house without getting fast foods. I had and still have no intention of 'preparing' or 'cooking' meals for them - I am one day out from surgery and can't eat normal food, why should I torture myself by preparing things that I can't eat? I could have picked up stuff for them to have a salad, or toasted sandwiches or something like that at home - something that wouldn't have driven me mad with the smell. Now I know why I like living alone so much.

Your 1st goal and reward !!

my first goal is actually to go through with the surgery, and my reward is a mother/daughter facial at a day spa one week post-op before my mum goes home. I expect most of my rewards to be shopping- related :-D
  23. Hi Everyone Well, it's Saturday which means just 3 more sleeps until I go to hospital for my surgery. I know that some of you were in and out on the same day, but my surgeon insists on a minimum one-night stay, perhaps two. As I have never been to hospital before, I am wondering what I should take with me. Do you have any suggestions? So far, my list is: - Two pairs of pyjamas - Dressing Gown - Slippers - Underwear - Tooth brush/paste - hair brush - iPod - Phone I figured I'd wear to the hospital what I plan on wearing home - just some loose sweat pants and a sweat shirt. I only need to travel 5 minutes. I am packing two pairs of pyjamas - my winter pyjamas (pants/top) as I prefer to wear those, but also a night dress in case it is too uncomfortable to wear the winter pyjamas post-op. Is there anything else I should be taking with me? Anything you wished you had while you were there?
  24. I've just discovered I have a yeast infection under my breasts - I had it a few weeks ago and believed it had cleared. I still have the ointment from the doctor so I am furiously applying it, but I am FREAKED OUT because it is Saturday night and I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. If I do still have evidence of a yeast infection on the day, will they postpone my op??? God, please don't let them postpone the op, I've gone to hell and back arranging for things to run smoothly (parents travelling a LONG way to be here, training a temp to back-fill my position at work, etc).
