  1. So I was doing fine up until this point. I'm 3 days away from my surgery and the freak out has begun! Last night my man and I were sitting on the couch relaxing and watching tv. There was an interesting show on about a Half-Ton Mom and her journey through obesity and her fight to get weight loss surgery. Well, she pleaded for help to get weight loss surgery and finally a specialist in gastric bypass offered to help her. The surgery was a little rough because of her weight but she made it through...but two days later she has a heart attack out of no where and dies!!! She was only 29 years old with two daughters.:crying: I was sooo sad, and my man was clearly upset asking 50 questions. The whole time I was trying to reassure him I was getting more scared. I had a very hard time sleeping last night, I just couldn't stop thinking about it! I mean, what if?????????????????

    Half-Ton Mom!!?!!

I know that there is always a chance of complications. I have weighed out all my pros and cons as to whether or not to get surgery and ofcourse I made the choice to go ahead with it. I think it is only natural to have a little fear beforehand. I guess I was just looking for some understanding, compassion, and positive reinforcement...thanks everyone!

    Worst pre-op diet ever!!!

Thanks for the positivity guys! I needed that! I am so glad there is only 3 days left, I don't know how much longer I could hold up! On the last day I will have clear liquids only, and I know it sounds crazy but I'm actually looking forward to being able to have broth! I'm going to Dr. Woodbury with Healthy Steps in Santa Rosa, Ca. I know this is for the best, but I just needed to vent a little hunger frustration...lol! Thanks for listening!
  4. I am 3 days into my pre-op diet and it is rough!! I have no problem with the cutback on food, but I'm am having trouble choking down the Protein shakes! The smell, and taste are horrible...and when I finally do get one down, it feels like it's going to come back up for the next few hours(which is unfortunate because I spent over 200$ on fusion protein powder)! I have tried it with crystal light, Water, and milk but nothing works. I am worried that if I am having this much trouble before surgery how is it going to be after? Why can't they just make a protein pill!! There has to be an easier way, I could really use some advice or ideas!! Oh yeah, and I have been feeling sooo tired, weak, sickly, and I have been getting headaches...am I doing something wrong??? Help please anyone!! Happy Holidays!!

    I'm one of y'all

I been hearing alot about shoulder gas. It sounds painful! Can someone explain what that is, and why they get it? Is it like normal gas, but in the shoulder? Why do you get gas in the shoulder?...I'm confused and scared!!

    The WRONG Isopure!!??

My doctor gave me a few samples, unjury being one of them and it was my least favorite! It had a bad smell, and didn't go down too well, and the after taste was horrible. I didn't really like any of the protein powders I tried yet though, they all were gritty and foamy and I could barely get them down...I actually ended up going and buying some Isopure at Rite-Aid for my pre-op diet(15g protein) and I like that much better. I am going to buy a variety for post-op (some Atkins shakes, Eas, and these ones from Costco that I can't recall the name) just to see which ones work for me. Good luck, it seems like finding the right one for you is very difficult and expensive!!

    I'm one of y'all

I'm glad to hear everything went ok, sorry your feeling so icky though. I am still pre-op and was curious if the doctor prescribes something for all this gas I been hearing about or if I should buy some stuff over the counter? I hope all your pain goes away soon. Keep us posted on your recovery. It's good to know what I'm in for! Take care.
  8. That's great!!! Your journey has begun with a bang! Keep it up! How have you been feeling? What types of things are you able to eat/not eat? What it easy to walk right after?

    What to expect?

I had my pre-op appt. on the 17th. We went over every little detail about the surgery, my pre-op diet, post-op diet, what to bring, exercise, time off work, expectations, and took a pre-surgery pic. Then I went on to get my blood work done, chest x-ray, and ekg. Over all not too bad, just seemed like they repeated alot of things that we had already talked about, but I know they have to make sure they get it through our heads...lol!! Good luck tomorrow, your almost there!!

    Pre-op diet difficulties!!

Thanks everyone! I went out and finally found some isopure...it tastes and goes down sooo much better! I qalso found a bunch of other stuff that looked like it would be tasty! Here's the website if anyone's interested; BariatricEating.com - Ready to Drink Protein I have tried unjury...ugh(gross)!! My doctor gave me samples of unjury and fusion, I have tried both and it didn't go so well. So I might look into trying some of midwest's recipes. My pre-op diet is so strict that I can't even have soup or soda whatsoever! I think my main problem was the actual protein powder smell and taste, and no matter what I tried it in, nothing helped. Does anyone else feel weak? I almost feel sick, like I'm not getting enough nutrition or food...lol! Maybe it's my body going into shock. Is the pre-op diet kind of like a detox? I'm wondering if maybe I will start feeling better when my system is cleaned out.
  11. My doctor adviced me to start crushing my pills now so that I can get a little used to it before surgery. I tried it today and it was gross!! I put it in a teaspoon of water and choked it down, it was so gritty and there was alot left in my mouth so I had to down a glass of water afterwards just to get the taste out of my mouth. I know I won't be able to do this after surgery so if anyone has any suggestions on an easier way I would love to hear it. I have chewable multi-vitamins, but there are a few that I still can't find in chewables like Vitamin D and Biotin so if anyone kows where to purchase these in chewables it would help out alot!!

    Help with crushed pills

Mixing them with applesauce or pudding sounds great. I'm curious if you still get the full potency effect of the vitamins or medications when crushed or added to food? What about crushing them all together and throwing them in...can I do that?

    Help with crushed pills

Thank you! That site was very helpful, and not too expensive either...I already put a few on order!!

    Dr. Aceves

I was curious about Dr. Aceves. My friend is wanting to get the sleeve done, and I have seen that so many of you have been done by this doctor and only have good things to say. She wants to get it done in Mexico because she figures it will be alot cheaper, but we would like to know a round about price if anyone knows, and maybe a phone #? We would appreciate any help to get her ball rolling!!

    Engaged!

Congratulations!!! I am so happy for you and I wish you all the best on your new journey (weight loss and marriage)! And when you do finally find that perfect dress, we want to see pix!! Happy Holidays!!
  16. Just wanted to say hello, and see how everything is going pre-op. I seen that we are almost the same age and both from Ca. My surgery date is Jan. 5th and I'm very excited. Anyways, I hope all is well and keep me posted!

  17. How many days has it been now for you? I have to start my pre-op diet on Tuesday...ugh! My doctor said that I could have all of the above plus fat free cottage cheese and raw vegetables! So I am going to be nibling on carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes with salt, and lemons with salt...mmmm! I know it's not much but atleast it's something to crunch on, and my doctor said salt and pepper is fine, along with any other kind of spice you can think of. I hope it hits that hunger spot for you...good luck! Oh yeah V8 juice is ok too, and might be a little filling!
  18. You guys look soooo happy together! I bet it felt good the first time he picked you up, I can't wait until my man can do the same! All I got to say is...YOU GO GIRL!!! It's obvious that you guys will be living happily ever after regardless of what obstacles life throws at ya!
  19. Wow, that was quick girl! You are lucky you didn't have to go through 8 months of meetings, appointments, and seminars like I did. My surgery isn't until the 5th of January so let me know how it goes and what your thoughts are about the whole process. I wish you the best of luck!
  20. Hey girl, so I suppose you have started your liquid diet? How is that going? I don't have to start mine until the 22nd...so I get a few days to grub on old time favorites. I didn't get your message forever because you put it on your page, and this whole time I was waiting for it on my page...lol! I have a family too, but we have only been together four years and I have a 1 year old daughtet. It sounds like you will have a great support system!! I don't have facebook (don't really understand it), but I do have myspace and never use it...lol! So e-mailing sounds good. How does your husband feel about it? Hope to hear from you soon! Take care!

  21. So I went in for my last appointment before my surgery and I got everything ready and set-up, all my blood work done and ekg...but they also gave me a chest x-ray. Even the nurses thought this was odd and had never seen anyone going in for bariatric surgery need a chest x-ray. Naturally this made me a little nervous, has anyone else needed a chest x-ray? I have had no previous health problems (no diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol) in fact the only times I have ever been to the hospital is to get my gall bladder removed and to have my daughter! So if anyone has any ideas or feedback I would love to hear it.:crying:

    Working out at home...yaaaa!!

Well, this is my first blog so I'm not sure if I'm just supposed to type whatever or however I'm feeling...but here goes! I love the gym don't get me wrong, but my 1 year old isn't always in the mood to go...lol! So I don't get to go as much as I would like to, but recently I purchased a couple of workout DVD's and they are working great! I tried a few in the past but they were so boring and repetetive that it got old quick! I don't know if any of you watch the Biggest Loser, well I do, and it really looks like they get a good workout, rough sometimes but good! I purchased a few of their DVD's and so far I love them!! They are geared more toward big people, so it's not some skinny minnie telling me to do something that is physically impossible for a big girl...lol!! I'm not trying to plug the Biggest Loser or anything but if any of you have a hard time getting to the gym this might be a good idea!! :001_tongue:

    Chest x-ray anyone?

Thanks all! I feel much better now! I guess the nurses just freaked me out a little...I'm over it.

    Last appt. before surgery!!

Carolyn, OMG you thought of some great things to ask, but I didn't get to read your post until after I got home from my appt., so I didn't get the chance to ask all these great questions. I think I might e-mail the nurse practioner and see if she might be able to answer some of them. Thank you!
  25. Time is flying! It is finally tme for my last appointment with my doctor before my surgery on January 5th. I was wondering if you guys could help me out with any questions or concerns I should be asking about. I just want to make sure that I am prepared and I appreciate any help or advice!
