  1. Yea. They are a great place. I got myself too tight though and I really had no idea I could come in anytime for an emergency unfill. I just let myself be sick and I figured I would lose the weight and it would loosen and it did...but when I was in last time I told them and they asked why I didnt come in for an unfill and I told them I didn't know I could.

I kinda also wish they would have told me about throwing up...I think I am a little prone to it, but I am happy all in all.

I've lost 80 lbs in a year.

  2. When your surgeon feels your band, how do he tell where it is? Like mine just felt around and put the needle in, but seriously how does he know the saline actually went in the band? Like it could have just been inserted somewhere in my stomach?

They can feel it and when they insert it they have to apply more pressure to get through the port. I actually felt the vibrations of it going into the port.

  3. I know some start early, but I don't know if I should be going now. All of the stitches and glue are gone from my incisions and I am about a month into being banded. My first fill is Friday. Should I maybe try the gym now? I live on an air force base, so it's free. My friend does these Zoomba dancing classes and they look like they work the core...I just don't wanna hurt myself. I sometimes feel sore from bending too much. :)

  4. My first fill is this Fri and my surgery was Sept 28th. I am scared and excited. I am hoping it will at least help me not feel like I am starving myself. lol I had m&m's last night....my neighbors invite us for card games and they had candy and I ate some. It was laced with guilt. lol

  5. Ya so I'm in soft foods and I had tortilla chips with a bean dip the other day and I am fine because I chew very well. Why is it so important to have soft foods?

Is it okay if you chew well. I also have had chicken, but it was pretty mushy.

I dunno I have just been struggling with the soft food thing and I needed a break. i hope i didn't mess anything up. I had surgery Aug. 28th...and I am on regular foods next week sometime. I just want some advise I guess.

  6. I am just now starting my journey. I went to a seminar with my neighbor kinda just looking into it and it was so eye opening to me.

I am 4''10' and 210lbs. right now. My BMI is 44 as of right now. I am 22 and will be 23 in June. For Tricare the nurse at the surgical center said I would need to be 218 to be approved with out co-morbids. Since they don't go by BMI, but by weight. My ideal is 110lbs. for height. I have had moderately high blood pressure, but no meds, asthma, and I did have thyroid itis for 5 months a few yrs ago that made me gaint 50 lbs. I have tried everything my Dr. has told me to do. I went to the HAWC had an exercise program...everything. My family has a history of extreme obesity, high bp, cholesterol.

I am going to gain back the 5 lbs i just lost and go for it. I am young and I do not enjoy life because of my weight. I am in pain at night if I go out and have a nice day outside and I just don't see myself loosing this weight because my parent never have. They say since I have the insurance I should definitely get the lap band done, so that I can better myself health wise and have a brighter future.

Do you all think I will be approved?

I just want you all to know my bp was sky high yesterday at my appt. and now I am on BP meds.

  7. Thanks for asking this question. I am always constantly worried about what people think about me...partially because I have thought people were saying negative things and then found out they were.

I haven't been banded, but when I get it I will tell my closest friends and my direct family. I am not telling any of my in laws. I would love to tell my grandmother in law since she had the bypass, but I know that my other in laws as well as the other grandmother in law all talked horribly about her and she has no idea. I know she would blab her mouth about me too and it is none of their business. lol I know his mother will love me more when I lose the weight though and that is truly sad.

Kudos to all of you. Your so inspirational.

  8. My name is Amy and I am going to be 23 in June. I am just now starting this whole process. I went with my neighbor to a seminar to support her. I was also thinking if the lap band would be for me and it turns out I was worse off then I expected. lol I have a cousin who got the bypass a while back and my family has a history of high cholesterol, high bp, you know the usual. :/ I have always been big and very upset about my wieght. I have struggled with every diet and I wanna fix things now before I do get sick. I want to better my future.

Well, I have been having high bp for a while now and been blaming it on nerves at the Dr. Now I really think I could just be unhealthy. I am 4'10 and as of right now 215lbs. My BMI is like 45, but I have tricare, so they go by weight... My ideal is 109 for medium frame, but I believe I am small frame since my mom wears a 3 in jeans now..(jealous) Anyways, to be approved I need to be 100 lbs over with one comorbidy or 200% (218lbs) over w/ none. I am 3 lbs away from that and we are going on a trip home in June and I know that with traveling and eating my dad's cooking I will def. gain.

I am going to the Dr. May 5th on base and it's a follow-up, but I am going to go ahead and get my referral for the surgical center. I am going to schedule my appt. for after my trip, so that the weight they take down is 218 or higher and then I don't have to go the route where I get on BP meds and whatnot.

Nice to meet you all. Sorry I am a babbler. lol
