That is awesome! Just a suggestion, Do you know if that doctor accepts your insurance? It is up to you, but I would suggest calling the insurance and seeing if they require the center of excellence like mine or if they use bariatric resource services just because doctors visits (especially meeting with the surgeon) are not cheap at all! So you don't want to meet with this surgeon and have to pay for that visit only to find out your insurance does not accept him. I guess what I mean is at least maybe you can go on www.myuhc.com and set up your acct and then check to see if the surgeon you chose is "in network" Hope that helps!! Hi serenity28, I live in NJ and have United Healthcare Choice Plus too. I consider my approval process fairly easy. For me all I had to do was call United Healthcare and open a case. I was then called by a company that United Healthcare uses to assist with the Bariatric Surgeries called Bariatric Resource Services. I was assigned a nurse by them and she called me and asked me a few questions and let me know exactly what the requirements for my Insurance were. (I've read on here that many individuals requirements vary even with the same insurance. It depends on the policy that the company you work for chose.) My requirements were 6 month supervised diet, must be older than 21, BMI must be 35 or greater, and Psych evaluation. (I also am required to use a Center of Excellence) My surgeons office submitted all of my paperwork on February 23rd and received an approval call by February 24th!! My surgery is scheduled for May 15th. Hope all goes well for you!! Keep us updated on your experience.

@beautifulnewme ..ahh I know what you mean. I've felt the similar. I've had my approval since February 24th and thought for sure I'd have it at least by April but I was thrown off course with a couple of obstacles as well. Lets keep our fingers crossed that nothing else goes wrong. I will keep you in my prayers and hopefully May 15th can just get here already for both of us!!!

@dawnduke - Yeah Idk why this happens but when I first got my call from the insurance they told me the same thing. They gave me a date, but when I called my surgeons office they said that they would be the ones assigning my date for me. Hopefully you can get your official date soon. Keep us updated and Let us know what they tell you Hi beautifulnewme2012, sorry to hear about your date changing. I know what you mean about just wanting to move on from the waiting already. Your "lollipop" comment was too funny!!! lol I am scheduled to have my surgery on May 15th and feel exactly how you do. I am freaking out one moment and then the next I'm excited. This is going to be my first surgery as well so this thread was extremely comforting to know that there have been others who felt the same way. Can't wait to get this new life going!!! Believe me I have so cheated too lol I've been pretty much following that for about a week and I'm planning to continue until my surgery date. I figure I might as well try to lose as much as I can before then. (of course I may have a "last supper" here and there before my official 2 weeks prior to surgery lol) We can so do this!!

My pre-op diet is similar to yours except I have to have 3 protein shakes and then for dinner I can have 4 oz of protein, 2 cups of veggies and 2 cups of fruit. I have to do mine for 2 weeks prior to surgery. And they said the same thing about water to me lol Lots of water! Yuck lol

Hi everyone! I started the process at the beginning of February 2012 and will be having my surgery on May 15th by Dr. Beth Schrope at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ. I am very excited!!! I keep going from excited to nervous and back and forth again lol Can't wait to get this going already!!

Welcome Michele! I'm not sure what kind of insurance you have, but I have UHC Choice Plus and I was required to do a 6 month diet; however, they accepted 6 months of Weight Watchers proof that I had. I had the stamps with my weigh in every week for exactly 6 months and that was accepted. From what I have read on here it really varies so much from one insurance to the other, but just from my experience that worked for me. I hope that helps. Good luck on your journey!

This thread is so funny! You all are awesome!! Now everytime I see it on this forum I think of this thread!!! lol I've been seening it A LOT lately or actually I don't know if now I'm paying more attention to it since I've seen this thread.

I just had one done two weeks ago and it was painless!! All I remember is the same thing as liberated sleeve. They put something in my mouth to protect my teeth and next thing you know I was waking up and it was all done. You will be fine!
