7 hours ago, aurilove said:Hello all, I had my surgery on 10/8 and I'm glad to report that my gastric sleeve went well. My Doctor was very happy about the outcome and how much I've been walking. Luckily I didn't have lots of pain from the gas, but it was hard to keep any Fluid down while I was in the hospital. I believe it was from all the medication I was receiving, because once I got home the nausea and vomiting stopped. I didn't have any issues swallowing any pills also. I've been taking gas x, prilosec along with the recommended Vitamins. No abdominal pain just slight discomfort from the gas and drinking fluids. I really need to work on my liquid intake, it seems impossible to get 64 ounces in when your just taking little sips, but I will find a way.
Much success to all. Let the journey begin!!
Congratulations on the surgery we were a day apart. Just follow whatever plan the doctor has laid out for you and you will be fine. I have been walking allot as well, it really does help with all things. I don’t have problems with pills, hot or cold Water thank goodness. Make sure when the hospital and dietician calls you explain anything you are having difficulty with.

I just had my band removed Monday and converted to sleeve. I had my band for 7 years. For me I lost about 80 but gained 30 back. I had it revised once due to vomiting because of my gallbladder. At that point they stitched it to my muscle and removed my gallbladder which now I wish they hadn’t stitched it to my muscles.I agree with the others in quality of life is diminished with the band for me. It took my surgeon 2 hours just to remove and get through scar tissue from the band. Sadly that means my recovery from this surgery is longer than most. I hope all goes well for you.

I had the lap band in 2012 I did loose some weight but I think that’s because I was vomiting every day for over a year. So I had my gallbladder removed in 2015 and Monday I had my lap band removed and converted to a sleeve. Doctors aren’t even doing the lap band much anymore.

Yes, I had my gallbladder removed in 2015. Gas pain was horrible for me.

I had surgery Monday and stayed overnight at the hospital my husband stayed with me. The gas pain was unreal! The worst thing ever for me. Walking , walking and walking is all that can be done. I’m back home and walking. sleeping flat is not great. Thank goodness for my adjustable bed sitting up is best for me. This bowl has been great for measuring broth.

I was banded in 2012 and now I am doing a revision to the sleeve with insurance. I have Aetna and they pretty much approve anything. I did have a revision on the band in 2015 due to acid reflux and my gallbladder. After my gallbladder was removed I started to gain the weight I lost back and the band gives me horrible pain in the port. If possible I would see if your insurance shows the clinical information on what they approve for certain procedures and what the requirements are to get approved. Aetna has it where you just call them and tell them what you are trying to do and they give you a clinical id that tells you what you need to be approved. Based on that information I should be approved soon for my revision to the sleeve. I would just check with the insurance company and ask. I hope this helps.

I was banded on 2/27/12 I was 250 pounds at the time. The band was great for a while. My lowest weight was 186. Then I started vomiting for no reason. So I went to a gastroenterologist he had me do two hida scans on my gallbladder and said one came out bad and one good. So he kept pumping me with reflux medication. I was so worried because I’ve learned one thing is you can not vomit. Then after this long year of vomiting i went to my PC and he said it’s your gallbladder it needs to be taken out . I was like what! The other doctor wouldn’t. Well my surgeon who did my realize band took it out and behold it was a giant thing. During the whole year of vomiting I got to 186 pounds. However the band was damaged. So while taking out the gallbladder the band had to be revised and the port stitched to my muscle. Well that lead to other issues. Now I am back at 230.l and not happy. Now I am getting a revision to the sleeve. My PC had been on me for years to take the band out due to so many issues. My surgeon that did the band doesn’t even do it anymore so i had to find a new surgeon that will remove the band and do the sleeve. Hopefully I will be having surgery in a couple of weeks. I am nervous all over again!

Thank you everyone for your kind words and understanding.I know some are going through much bigger things.

I have been a thick girl my entire life. I had the lap band in 2012 and lost 80 pounds but gained 30 back. The band has been nothing but a complication. So I am having it removed and replaced with the sleeve. I am nervous 😬 that I will loose too much weight and become skinny. My husband and I want me to be healthy. I’m am in tears over being skinny. I know this seems weird but I am really nervous. I have always been thick and afraid for how I will look after. What I I don’t like what I see what if I hate myself. I even cried today due to this fear. This is me now the second picture at 230 and the first one is at my lowest weight 186. My doctor wants me down to 130 I just can imagine that!!

My band to RNY revision is scheduled for 9/13.
Honestly, my decision for bypass was 2 fold:
1. Complications due to band failure.
Even today, after having all of the Fluid removed four years ago due to recurrent gastritis and esophageal spasms, I still struggle daily with never knowing what will get stuck, terrible reflux, sliming constantly with every meal, the chest pressure with eating anything, the nightly gas pains under my collar bones, vomiting, and belly pain. All this while eating way smaller portions than most, just to almost be back to my pre-lap band weight, plus all the problems I didn’t have before the lapband. I feel like I’m a Prius in the metabolism race. I apparently hold onto every single calorie I ingest, so malabsorption as a tool might be a more effective option for me. And removing the ban will take care of the issues.
2. My surgeon prefers band to bypass when there is a history of GERD. From my understanding gerd after sleeve is quite common. Enough so that one of the local research hospitals is currently doing clinical trials for a procedure to treat reflux specifically for post sleeve patients. I’m already experiencing a life of reflux and anything I can do to make that better instead of potentially worse is where I’m looking. I really don’t want the acute gastritis and spasms again! Nothing like heart attack like symptoms to get you started:(
My revision was requested as general surgery instead of bariatric, due to all of the complications, and approved 2 weeks after being submitted.
I will be having my revision in one surgery. I specifically requested that from my surgeon. He is comfortable with and has experience doing it all at once, so that is my plan. I’m very adverse to two rounds under anesthesia and post op recoveries.
One of the folks who post on the forums has a favorite saying: YMMV. Your Milage May Vary. Basically, your journey is your journey. Whatever decision you and your surgeon make whether bypass or sleeve is the right one for you. You have to feel confident and empowered in the decision process. It’s your health! Educate yourself, don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and make the best choice for YOU.
Good vibes to us all!Thank so much for sharing my surgeon is doing the same removing my band and doing the sleeve in one surgery. Best wishes to you.

Hello Everyone, I was banded 2/27/2012. The band has been nothing but problems for me. My primary doctor has been wanting me to get this removed but I was scared. The doctor that did my lapband isn’t doing it anymore so I had to find another surgeon. I finally had my appointment with him and couldn’t be happier. I did loose some weight but back at 230. My lowest was only 186 in 2014. I am having a revision to the sleeve. Can’t wait for my surgery date but I am excited.

Hey msboose. I payed 18,000. Out of pocket! Yes 18K,! Don't b so judgemental about a post. Maybe I should say u only paid 3K, maybe that's why u aren't finding your tool useful!
I think you replied to the wrong person as I have no idea what you are talking about!

First of all, I am right there with you on more than one account. The 2013 bandsters are confusing me as well! Anyway, I feel like I'm being a pessimist, but I'm looking for some support out there. I got banded Feb. 23, 2012. I have lost a total of 30 pounds. I know 30 pounds is 30 pounds, but I really thought I would be at my goal of 80 pounds lost by now. Here is where I am having trouble - and please, please, please understand I am looking for support, not a lecture. I have NEVER EVER felt restriction. EVER! NOTHING gets stuck! NOTHING restricts me! I can eat EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. It's like I never had the surgery (except for the scars and the $3,000 out of pocket). This is what I can't understand. I have a Realize band. 11 cc. It is filled to 8 cc. I know there's Fluid in it, because when I got my last fill, he took all the liquid out (which was 6 cc.). So I know it's in there. But I still have no restriction. Everyone says you have to help the band work, but if it's like the band was never there, what is the use? I'm just wondering if there's anyone else out there in my position and if anyone knows of anything I can do. I try to diet, but heck if dieting alone helped ANY of us, would ANY of us be here? I know it's a TOOL - but it's a TOOL I DON'T HAVE! The PA who did my last fill said that it's like putting a belt on. Some have bigger waists, some have smaller waists, and if you try to tighten a size 40 belt on a size 28 waist, it's going to take a lot of tightening to get it to restrict the waistband. My question is, if I am at 8 cc of an 11 cc band and have absolutely no restriction, what can I do? I cry daily when I get on the scale. I need encouragement, or ideas, or something. I am slipping back into old eating habits - and realizing I can eat way more than I do (and that's a very bad thing). Is there anybody out there that give me an idea of the next step?
Are you exercising? Also, try drinking a glass of Water before each meal so you can eat less. I know it gets frustrating as I get that way too! I have to remember to go back to the basics when I was loosing and start over. We all fall from time to time but we just have to get back up!

Yesterday I saw the doctor, the last time I was their was 08/2012 and since I've lost 16 lbs.My band is a 11cc Realize band and I had 6 and 3/4 of Fluid. He put one more cc for a total of 7 and 3/4 but he had a hard time getting it in so now I am swollen and very tight! He says I am loosing at a good pace. My one year is coming up next week I am so proud of myself! How is everyone else doing that was banded in 2012!
