I eat a lot of grains- steel cut oats, quinoa and tofu, I eat a lot of the morningstar burgers and meatless chicken- I also make green smoothies with spinach or kale and fruit- I eat a lot of Beans, hummus, eggplant- I did a 21 day vegan challenge and kept with it- they issued a bunch of recipes and that helped a lot since it was all new to me- It was not and is not hard and I dont miss meat at all... I am always full and have to forcemyslef to eat most days but I feel 100% better overall...
I eliminated dairy out of my diet but twice a month I eat string cheese or queso blanco and/or yogurt just for something different but I use almond milk or hazelnut milk daily.
If we eat out and there are no vegetarian options I will eat fresh fish if I am not in the mood for a salad but that has been rare... and you have to be careful eating out- Texas Roadhouse has really good baked potatoes and sweet potatoes BUT they are cooked in bacon grease/fat- so not vegetarian and you wouldnt know unless you ask and ask and ask....

I'm sorry to hear about your dad and unfortunately he had to go through that experience. However it should be sad way early on to all smoker's and drinkers that you really dont know the unreparable damage that can be done internally to what you are doing to yourself. Being in the medical field I see this all the time- people saying they quit or not telling us they are a smoker and a minor procedure can turn into a major one real quick.
Hopefully you both have learned from this and perhaps can turn it around by going to support groups and encouraging EVERYONE you know to stop the pre op habits soon enough to minimize the risk- the risk will always be there but you can decrease it...
ps thanks for sharing such a personal story-

I love Sushi and I miss Sushi because with my band I cannot eat rice and I have tried MULTIPLE times to ask them to cut into thinner rolls, eliminate the seaweed etc and I still want to throw it up because it gets stuck- Has anyone had any issues with eating Sushi with the sleeve?

When I do the steel cut oats alone I soak them over night- In the crock pot however it depends on how good yours is- Mine cooks rather quicly so low for 6-7 hours gets good consistancy...
    2 cups steel cut oats
2 cups coconut or almond or soy( I dont like soy) milk
    3 1/2 cups of Water
2 cinnamon sticks (or powdered cinnamon to taste)
Nutmeg and or all spice and or apple pie spice to your taste
    1/4 tsp sea salt
Peaches- I used real peaches when they are in season but you can also use 1lb of frozen peaches.. (you can also add in any other frozen berry fruit or pineapple, raisins, whatever you'd like) if the fruit is not frozen you may just wnat to add it in the end.
Spray crock pot with non-stik cooking spray.Combine all ingredients and add sweetner if you need to (sweet and low, truvia etc)
To add some flavor and sweetner, I use a coffee cremer that is french vanilla coconut milk. It adds more vanilla flavor and sweetnes it automatically.
I can only eat about less than 1/2 cup over about a 1 hour time frame so obviously this lasts for at least a week but when I make it I also variate the fruit according to season... It's yummy- ENJOY!!!

Dr. D is my doctor to- I am having my band out and sleeve done in Nov. He did not do my band another local physician did. Being in the medical field myself I KNOW he is an excellent physician and I am glad there are others on here before me- Do any of you do or attend a support group?? I have my appt with the dietician in 2 weeks. Very excited to get to know all of you and continued blessings for the best of luck on your own individual journies!

lml32937 got a reaction from Nacol in Lymphedema And Wls
I have lower extremit lymphedema as well and have the pump- I did the daily bandages, MLD and reed sleeves. Unfortunately due to skin allergies I am unable to wear daily compression garments. However immediately after my surgery my lymphedema improved quite drastically to the point I went 3 mos with no pump- then out of the blue I developed cellulitis in my legs and they swelled like before- I am again on daily pumping and am going to get the circ-aid's soon. Overall it is improved- as you know it will NEVER go away- My doctor says the damage is done and somewhat irrepairable. It is very disheartening too because I was soo looking forward to wearing dresses and skirts and shorts and am still very self conscious with that. ITs unfortunate because if you look on the top people can notice and compliment etc.. but then the bottom half is like WHOA... what happened ...

I have the same problem and have lost so much fat and muscle that you can see the line of my upper arm bone when I hold up my arm/flex. It is disgusting BUT I am not done loosing therefore I am not going to have the surgery to remove the skin as of yet. I know I have to- IT is frustrating to not fit into certain shirts etc but I have been more self conscious about my legs than my arms and am ok wearing sleeveless and or halter type maxi dresses with no problem...

I am now doing great.. I had a rocky post op for about 4 mos- I had a hard time increasing from liquids to mushies and soft foods- My body took a longer time to heal. Looking back I should have done the band removal and sleeve in 2 seperate surgeries and NOW I understand why but I was stubbborn, didnt want to take time off etc and waited and did it all at once- Having said that I LOVE my new life, my sleeve - TOTALLY regret the time and effort I put into the band- My sleeve feels natural- I feel like I eat like a normal person- I have gained a greater respect for my body and what goes in it- It has completely changed my life for the better....

lml32937 got a reaction from LorenaVaca in Cold Cereal?
I ate cold cereal with no problem during mushies and Rice Krispies were one of the better ones because they got very mushy very quickly- Although I didnt/couldnt eat a lot it was very filling. I would ask your dietician if that is acceptable on your particular doctor's plan.
"You can't drink while you eat, so that's why they say no" having said this and using that logic- one would NEVER be able to eat any stew or Soup... The reference to this is drink WHILE eating... as in take a bite wash it down with liquid. NOT liquidy foods that have to be chewed..... That's like saying I'm going to mush a bananna into a Protein shake but that's a nono because I cant chew the bananna and drink the shake...

lml32937 got a reaction from Sleeved&Hopeful in Has Anyone Been Sleeved Twice?
Although I have never personally heard of being re-sleeved I have heard of others like previously mentioned being revisioned to another procedure- ie bypass or RNY. However having said that my advice to you is to not get discouraged- Take what the doctor gave you- still follow the protocols- who knows maybe you will be successfull- it sounds like you may have accepted because it isnt "Normally how he does it" that it wont be successfull- PROOVE HIM WRONG!!! Moniter your intake, exercise- stick with his program who knows you may never need another procedure AND if you did the weight loss you have had will enable him an easier 2nd time around-.
I had 5 laparoscopic surgeries before my sleeve and at the time of my sleeve also had my lap band removed- Due to auto immune problems I have a collagen disorder and build scar tissue like crazy- My surgeon didnt have any problems with previous areas nor accessing anything he needed. If by chance you are not OK with your doctor then perhaps you might seek another opinion to see if they can offer anything else in the mean time.. but I'd really give it some time- let your body adjust before you go doing more to it.
    GOod luck!
