You are supposed to go back and see your Dr at least twice a year for life, even when you think you have ideal restriction. Over time a small amount of Fluid will be lost from the band which will make it looser. You need a small fill to top up.

elcee reacted to Phranp in Apparently many WLS surgeons are keeping it a secret ...
I have read again and again on the post-op forum that newbies are "hungry" and "can eat anything and everything" they could eat BEFORE surgery. YES, THIS IS TRUE. Before you have restriction (via fills that tighten the band and press on the vegus nerve inhibiting the hunger hormone ghrelin) you will be hungry and because you don't have Fluid in your band you do NOT have restriction. So, be forwarned that (once the swelling from surgery goes down) if you want to lose weight AFTER surgery and BEFORE you reach (some) restriction, you are going to have to watch what you eat. And, yes, you will be hungry sometimes. It's called "bandster hell", but don't worry it doesn't last forever and we all get through it.
Also, this is a good time to learn when you are "physically hungry" and when you are "head hungry".
I am amazed at how many people are surprised that they have to participate in reaching their weight loss goal (i.e., changing their diet, being hungry sometimes). The band is a "tool". It only works as hard as you do. I am more surprised that surgeons are not explaining this to their patients BEFORE surgery. What's THAT about??
Hang in there folks, barring complications, this is a great WLS. It can "help" change your life.
As you will learn in the post-op forum, lapband surgery is not for everyone, but many, many people are succeeding with this surgery eveyday. I wish I had done it years sooner.
Knowledge is power folks ... read, read, read. And, read the post-op forum for experiences and information from those in the "know".
Good luck to all of you!

You really have been dealt a crap hand haven't you. I'm not going to pray for you because in my opinion that wouldn't help - but I will send positive thoughts your way and hope that you find the strength to get through this and that you make a full recovery.
    All the best.

Since when was Bob being rude? I have just read his post and cannot see it. 15lb in 3 weeks is amazing. I cannot see how anyone could be anything other than ecstatic over that kind of result.

Yay - I found the thread again! Will have to read the latest news later when I get home from work .
I am so not liking the changes to this website. It is a PITA to find your way around, slow etc. On the plus side it may have cured me to my addiction and I may now find time to do other things instead of spending hours here.

Amazing - some of us have been here for ages and we didn't know about this.I didn't realise that people could score me nor that I could score them.
    Something else to stress about.
On the positive side we can find axel or whatever his name is these days and give him lots of bad marks!

elcee got a reaction from Cocoabean in Does the left shoulder pain go?
Thought I would copy and paste this from another forum I belong to.
and he found the lapband tubing was curled up and pressing on my diaphragm just as he suspected - it had caused numerous adhesions and he said he found a lot of scar tissue in the area also. They shortened the tubing so it won't cause any hassles anymore, and removed the adhesions. So now I'm recovering.. and the pain is gone!! I mean I do have some pain from the gas sitting under the diaphragm.. and the incisions and the area itself where they had the surgery.. but it is in No way anywhere as bad as what I've been suffering through this year.
Extremely happy.. thrilled even to be able to look forward to a pain free future, and get back on track with my weight loss again.

elcee got a reaction from LeighaMason in Lack of Support from family and friends...
I wouldn't have told them. It's your business not theirs. The only person that needs to know and be supportive is your husband and you already said that he is.
Your Mum is probably scared. It's surgery, elective surgery and she is scared that something might happen to you. Reassure her by telling her that there are less risks from the surgery than there are from remaining overweight.
As to the rest - tell them to butt out or bug off!
