Wow, does this seem like hate speech to anyone? It does me. Oh I know, if you are insulting a white person based on their looks it is ok. My bad. I keep forgetting that. silly me:rolleyes:

Really? Actually I did say I shouldn't have said it. My mom used to call me and my twin her little mexi-mutts when we were little. I'm not an oversensitive crybaby about it though. And I don't think my mom was being mean to us. I also think my mom had a wonderful sense of humor. I'm sure not everyone thought that. It is a matter of opinion. Why do you get to decide what is funny? And actually it was insulting to him. Why do you get to decide what is insulting. When I'm called a half-breed I am not insulted whether it is meant mean or as a joke. YOU would have been embarassed to tell this story, I'm not embarassed by my honesty. But I guess that makes you and I different. I learned a valuable lesson in that what I think is funny doesn't mean everyone else will think it is funny. And I actually think I did pretty much say the comment was ignorant....I may have not said it in YOUR words but I was admitting something I thought I had done wrong. Kind of a lesson learned relating to the topic of this thread. Like I said earlier though..Why do YOU get to decide what is funny? I'm just curious how you got that power. I would like it.

Someone said in an earlier post "what if he would have done this in a doctor's office?" That is rediculous. HE DIDN'T DO IT IN A DOCTOR'S OFFICE. He did it on his radio/tv show where he has been expressing his opinions for 35 years. Like people said earlier, they listened to Howard Stern and decided they didn't like his stuff so they turned him off. That is their freedom. You have every right not to support him if he says something you don't like. MSNBC and CBS would not have fired him if there wasn't the pressure from the groups. GUARANTEED. I am listening to clips on Directv right now of the Steve Harvey radio show. As I type this I am listening to his bit that is making fun of white, southern, rednecks. He is being very stereotypical. A. It's pretty damned funny if you ask me. I'm cracking up. B. Where is the public outcry from Al Sharpton on Steve Harvey's politically incorrect comments? Oh that's right, he's black so he can say whatever he wants. Geez, wish I was black so I could say whatever I wanted to.

You are absolutely right about Al Sharpton not making Imus say what he said. But Al Sharpton will jump on anything he can to get his stupid face on television. And actually Al Sharpton being a race-bating media whore isn't really the issue here. Al Sharpton does not get to decide what people say. Just like we cannot decide what dip-sh-- Sharpton says. But if you had to go through the 35 years worth of Imus shows and the thousands of press conferences that Sharpton has done, who would you say is closer to inciting a race war? I for one think it is Sharpton.

I am absolutely not upset that you called me simple. I think my not giving way to the possibility that he would be offended is simple. Like I said in the story, I felt awful. I do not think that the fact he remained to be upset is wrong. I think the fact that he kept coming over and getting in my face is wrong. If he hates me for the rest of his life and has me cursed on his gravestone I don't think he is wrong. I just said there is nothing else I could do about it and he shouldn't keep the argument going for hours on end. Is there something else I could have possibly done. Once I said it I couldn't take it back. All I could do is apologize. I guess I could have gone to rehab or resigned from my position or killed myself. Obviously those are rediculous suggestions. But what can I do short of not saying it again and apologizing? Trust me, I am called midget, half-breed, told I should stay home and pump out some kids like a good wife, etc........just because I laugh at bieng poked fun at doesn't mean everyone should. I absolutely never said because I was joking and apologized that it was ok. What more do YOU suggest I do? Also, have you ever said anything in your life to someone as a joke and it didn't go over well and you wished you could take it back? I don't know you, but I'm guessing the answer is yes.

I don't think the anti-descrimination law is what you think it is. I think the law you are talking about is a work place protection thing. I could be wrong, certainly wouldn't be the first time. I take this law to be protection of discrimination from your co-workes/boss/etc......people in your company. Yes there is a limit on what to say in the work place as their should be. We are not talking about what was said by some co-workers. Antidiscrimination (EEO) Law Information Personnel actions affecting any term or condition of employment may not be based on an individual's: Race Color National Origin Religion Sex (including pregnancy and childbirth) Age (40 years or more) Disability (physical or mental) Participation in the EEO process Opposition to employment discrimination Hostile Work Environment Discrimination (Harassment) is Prohibited Employees may not be subjected to unwelcome conduct in the course of employment because of their race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, or disability. I don't know that I agree with "most" of the hip/hop or rap music being about one's own struggles. I believe there is just as much gangster/kill people/slap your ho/i'm a pimp/f---white people hip/hop/rap as their is personal struggles music. There is really no way to know for sure but I do think people are deciding to focus on one or the other without recognizing the other. I happened to have heard some neo-nazi music as well. There is actually a market for that (in my opinion) crap. Obviously not as big a market as hip/hop (which I personally love).

I don't know this for fact but I think Barbara was talking about the one or two people Ie: Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton being the people that wanted him fired. I agree that there are thousands times more black people that wanted him fired. Same goes with thousands more black people that dont' want him fired. I go back to the free speech/protected speech issue. I know some of you don't think this should fall under protected speech but this is the apitome of protected speech. If somone went on the air and said something 100% of the people enjoyed, why would that speech need protected? Free speech was made for this EXACT speech. Show me in the constitution where it says we are to be protected from getting our feelings hurt? I'm not saying anyone should or should not be offended. I'm just saying ya can't go around telling people what they can and can not say. Or what is right or wrong to say. It is not against the law to hurt someone's feelings. IMO you shouldn't try to hurt people's feelings, but you have the right to.

I cannot believe I forgot to tell the story of an incident that happened to me last night. My crew works 12 hour rotating shifts. Once a month after our four day shifts we get 7 days off in a row. Well yesterday happened to be my fourth day shift and a large part of my crew goes to the bar on this day after work to Celebrate. There is a guy who just transferred to my crew 4 months ago who appears to be full Mexican. Accent and all. Well he informed me a few months ago that he was half mexican half german and grew up in Germany. Thinking we had a bit in common being mexi-mutts and also I was born in Germany and lived there until I was 5 I thought we had a little bond and stupidly I assumed he might have a sense of humor. Last night he pushed past me to get by as the bar was overcrowded with drunken gold miners and I said to him jokingly "watch where you are pushing half breed!". I thought he would think this was funny and boy he didnt'. He stopped and turned to me and said I'm a full breed C---!. I said, whoa Eddie I was kidding and I thought you would think it was funny. I apologize and did not mean to offend you." Talk about feeling awful I wish I would have never said it to him. then he called me another colorful name and walked away. I was not mad that he called me those names because A. I called him a name. B. if that is what he feels, who am I to say he can't feel that way. Later on he came up to me and started lambasting me again. I told him I aplogized already and he needed to stop being an overly sensitive crybaby. I said it, I can't take it back, I certainly won't say it again to him in the future, and I definately owed him an apology. Which I gave and gave and he continue to call me names. I must wash my hands of the situation because there is nothing more I can do. And honestly I don't think there is anything else I should do except not do it again. I said it in humor. Be it in his opinion bad humor (although everyone else seemed to think it was funny). I just thought this story was interesting because of what we were talking about.

Yes you were mistaken. I was not really offended at all, but if I was it would have been because of your assuming that I'm not educated. Definately not because you suggested I expand my horizons in any way. In fact I couldn't agree more with that suggestion. I am currently in college part time earning my business degree. Uneducated or not though, I still have an opinion.

You know what? I actually thought both these remarks were HYSTERICAL. Isn't humor a matter of opinion? I 'm an avid listener of a shock jock show called the Opie and Anthony show on XM Radio. They have a producer that had weight loss surgery. They constantly tease this producer about it calling him "old change purse belly" and "garbanzo bean belly". They will say he's grouchy because he ate two spoonfulls of yogurt instead of one spoonful. IT'S SO FUNNY. I guess some people wouldn't find that funny which is okay too. I think humor is like any other feeling like being sad or happy. You cannot control your feelings and I beleive you cannot control what you think is funny. But who am I to say what is funny and what isn't? who are you to say? I think that is the same as you telling me what constitutes a happy feeling for myself.

what a coincidence. I also work in a male dominated field. I'm a gold miner for the largest gold company in the world. I'm the only girl on my 80 man crew. Also, we sued our jr. high so I could play jr. high football. Just thought this was kind of funny.

Oh I see. You are assuming I am uneducated. Wow, you are not only a stereotyper but you also assume a lot of things about a lot of people. You honestly think white people don't go through ANY of these things? Thanks for speaking for all white people since you know they don't go through these things. Geez, all of a sudden Al Sharpton doesn't seem like such a bad representative compared to you. How do you find time to write on this message board while also knowing all the white people in the world. Talk about multi-tasking. You are AWESOME!:clap2:

Is it just me or is the fact that some African Americans think it’s ok for them to say certain words that white people aren’t “allowed” to say? What would happen if a white person got on television and said “these specific words are not allowed to be said by African Americans”. Does anyone think that would cause another controversy? I’m positive that it would. I can just hear it now from stupid race-bating Al Sharpton’s idiotic face “Why are black people not allowed to say these words, that’s racist”. I’m not saying he didn’t deserve to be fired, only because any corporation has rules. I mean just because you are allowed and it is legal to drink at home doesn’t mean you can drink at work. And the same goes for saying whatever you want. You are not allowed to do that at your job. The thing I think is stupid about this whole thing, is the big deal they are making out of it. I mean really, how is this going to affect these Rutger girls? Is it really traumatizing or life-threatening? It was just offensive. That’s it. I grew up in an all Mexican neighborhood and I had blonde hair and blue eyes. Yet my twin brother is very dark skinned and has black hair and brown eyes along with my full Mexican mother. (my father was full Irish) . I cannot even tell you the names I was called growing up. I was the stand-out and got attacked while growing up because I was white looking. Racism goes both ways. I’m over it. Yes it hurt my feelings and I cried but doesn’t everyone get teased growing up and at other times in your life? Doesn’t everyone get offended in one way or another throughout their lives? GET OVER IT! STOP BEING SO SENSITIVE! GO ON WITH YOUR LIFE! EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OKAY! As far as this being dubbed as “hate speech”. Are you kidding Sunta? Don’t you think that’s a bit harsh? Not to mention ridiculously blown out of proportion. Please tell me you are joking, you must be. It was an awful joke. That’s it. He was not trying to incite a race war for goodness sakes. Also, do you think black female athletes are the only people who fight stereotypes and adverse circumstances their whole life? Can somebody tell me why there is so much white guilt going on out there? Over privileged applies to ALL WHITE MEN???? Seems to me you are quite the little stereotyper yourself Sunta. As far as Al Sharpton the race-bating jizz bag who I wish would die on Christmas eve from a horrible prize winning parakeet training accident goes……….. May I remind everyone of a little incident called the Tawana Brawley story? Google it, see for yourself what good Al Sharpton is doing. As far as getting my pants pulled down in front of people. I think someone laying their hands on me physically is a little bit worse than someone saying something about me. Call me crazy but I think that is a bad example Carlene. Signed: The half-breed (oh no, dare I make a joke about half-breeds, please, I promise I am not trying to demean half-breeds like myself, just making an awful joke)

Actually it was a joke. No matter how un-funny people thought it was. Just because someone says a joke that doesn't go over well doesn't mean it wasn't meant as a joke. Has anyone here ever seen the movie School Daze by Spike Lee? If you have, and you heard the coversation that Imus was having with his producer at the time, then you probably recognized that they were quoting the movie school daze. I think there is a thread somewhere on this message board exactly like that right?

Son overdosed couple days ago! WARNING:

thank you all for your support. I never realized how common cases of kids eating stuff like that was. So many people have come out of the woodwork to share their similar stories. every emergency room nurse had a story involving their own children/grandchildren in very similiar situations. Yes what medication is left in the house is not only under lock and key but even out of my immediate reach. (i'm very short anyways so you could probably put it on the kitchen table and I would need a step ladder to reach). Not to make light of the situation but yes there are no more vitamens in the house because Xander ate them all. The funny thing is, they weren't even the kids' flinstones. they were mine. they are the only multi-vitamen i have been able to stomach since my lap band surgery. They were MY pills. Talk about hard to explain that to people.

any one in utah want to talk

My experience with Dr. Muse has been HEAVEN!!! I had so many problems the first 5-6 months first 5 fills. No restriction. NONE. And also no support through my surgeon's office when it came to my feelings about never having restriction and feeling like I have wasted my money. I switched to Dr. Muse when I got his name through Fill Centers USA. My first appt. with him was wonderful. He is super nice and I have had restriction from the fist hour I met him 3 months ago and have lost over 30 lbs living the banded life. I wish I would have switched to him sooner. He does however remind me of a thinner Anthony Hopkins as far as looks go. Bieng a very big Silence of the Lambs fan it makes me a little uneasy!! LOL

Reno or N. Nevada Bandsters out there???

I ordered the diet through the docs office.

    whats everybody eaten today

I just realized we were banded the same day and have lost within a pound of eachother. EXCELLENT JOB SO FAR!
  25. foodstampchamp

How long does the average fill last?

I think that varies from person to person. I myself did not have restriction until my 6th fill which was 5 months after surgery. I had that fill done January 9th and since that date I have gone from 234 lbs to 202.6. I am ready for another fill and scheduled for it on April 2nd. I have heard some people say they are ready for a fill every time they lose around 10 lbs.
