  1. @NewCyn

I agree with the importance of following up with your surgical team....EVEN and ESPECIALLY if/when things aren't going good. Your post is a good reminder and wake up call to those who get a lapband that the followup care is so important. I always pay close attention to folks who have experienced complications as you describe, and try to learn from them to avoid similar problems. I do have a couple questions though to help understand what to look for or be aware of:

Did they determine how your intestines "wrapped around your port"?

How would they have caught this during a routine checkup with your surgeon?

What is the treatment for this complication?

Thanks for any info you can provide. I wish you a speedy recovery and best wishes in the future!!!!

  2. I so hear ya! Couldn't believe some of the BS I was seeing on here the last couple of days.

Someone sayin' "don't listen to your nurse" You're not allowed to eat THAT! ...do as I say. Wow..... Really?? I guess she's a expert now...a couple months post op.

And then a new "old timer" expert that has came out of the woodwork the last month or so spouting......"you must", "you shall", "you can't", "I know because I have 8 years experience watching, listening, studying, etc."

    Give me a break....

  3. Dang T....that sucks! I agree....I don't think you did anything to cause this. there are several people who have had a port replacement on LBT. From what I read, its a day surgery...sometimes even done in the office? You'll be back stronger than ever in no time. Will you be at the support group next thursday? I'm thinking I will be there. If you need anything, you know how to get in touch. Take care and feel better soon!

Cards sweep the Pirates this weekend? I hope so!

  4. Sounds like you had a great time! Don't fret over your eating....you're doing great. I eat a piece or sometimes two of thin crust from Fridays South in Collinsville every couple of weeks...just like you said, slow and easy. Congrats on starting running! I'm doing the Italian Fest 5km on the 21st....care to join us? It's at 8am....but the start line is walking distance from my house. I've been doing the path they are taking for a couple of weeks now. AND I can tell a difference since I started running. As the support group folks kept telling me, I've gotten some new threads....down two waist sizes in the last two months. I don't EVER remember being a 34" waist! Maybe in junior high...haha. HAPPY! See you soon. :)

  5. Congrats on your amazing success Jim! I read a good article a couple months ago and posted a link to it on here. If I can find it, I'll repost it. It discussed not worrying about some long term fitness goal, but just concentrating on your progress today. If we concentrate on what we do today...the long term goals will come.

    Heres a quote from it.

""Einstein didn't think he was intelligent, because as his intellect expanded so did his ability to comprehend how much there is to know. Exercise works the same way. As you become fit, you become more aware of higher standards of fitness. Identifying yourself in the scale of being fit can be the cause of depression that will cause you to quit. You must not think about a future state of fitness you want to obtain. You must only think of physical motion in the moment. You must develop sets of physical motion without setting a goal of obtainment. You just do it as a ritual. You don't think about the time involved. You don't become over exhilarated. You just do it."

  6. Bless this Blog/Post! I am so glad to see YOU are making YOUR own decision...YEA for you!

I'm pretty sure i might know the "crazy" post you're referring to...I just read all the drama and shake my head. What a waste of time!!!! Some people must think prospective banders won't think or do the homework for themselves!!! If someone comes on here and spouts info they don't agree with, they must be a "troll" or a liar! Its their way or else....In reality, I think thats what "those" people are looking for......attention. .You've heard misery loves company....HAHA! I aint gonna be their company.

Anyways, GOOD for YOU! Do what's right in your mind after getting all the info you can and then discussing with the professionals. Best wishes on your decision. Never, Ever give up!

  7. Yea....what CG said! :)

This is your life....not some race to see how fast you can get to some magic number. (although I'm guilty too!) Hell, I'm coming up on four YEARS and not at that scale goal yet.

Some days I eat MUCH more than others...and I'm fairly "tight". But thats life with the band for me....and its working that way.

Be proud where you've come so far.... Try going and carrying around a 60# bag of concrete/whatever for a while..
