    Banders Exercise

This weeks long run on my marathon training was 16 miles. After the crappy last long run, I was pretty intimidated by todays.....but it felt GREAT! I ran strictly by HR through the first 11, then did run/walk intervals the last five. Only 4 miles to go on the plan. Sounds doable now! Happy Monday all. http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/683384714
  2. Sorry to hear of all your troubles and struggles. Sounds like you've had more than your share with the band(s)! I always try and pay attention to people who have had their band a long time and develop problems. To try and prevent similar issues. I was wondering, have you taken NSAIDS often since you had your bands? Best wishes!

    Is it just me....

Before Bariatric Pal, when it was LapBandTalk, there were certainly negative posts, but I tend to think it was more positive/helpful then. There have always been sh** stirrers.....and probably always will be. I suppose there are people who just like to Troll. "Misery loves company?" I have seen several post from people who get on here and say "my surgeon doesn't do lapbands anymore". Yet when I call their surgeons number I get told "OF COURSE, we still do lapbands. Ever notice all the "failed lapband" ad banners on the site now from BODEvolve? Maybe they are looking for business? Just a thought. And you are right, of course we have to change our habits. That is true with any surgery if you want to be successful. I do believe there are complications from every surgery. Some patient caused and some through no fault of the patient. Sometimes bad things just happen to good people. It's life. Anyone who says the band doesn't work....well, they just haven't had the same results I, and MANY people over the past years have had. Even though not a lot of them come on and post much anymore, there are LOTS of successful banders out there! Don't let the negative nellies get you down. Best wishes on your success!

Does anyone else have an exercise peak?

I work rotating 12 hour shifts.....two weeks of days, then two weeks of nights, so "mornings" can be different for me. That being said, I usually like to exercise within an hour of waking up. Just seems to make my whole day better! Sometimes running outside at 3:30am can be tricky though, especially during the winter. I so wish I could enjoy treadmills...but I don't.

    Lapband removal

@@j-rod You joined this site this morning, and asked "Is anyone getting their lapband removed???" and "anyone go through this" as you told of the near death experience of someone. Is it your "guy", your "BF" or your "Husband" that has the band? You refer to them differently each time you post..... You've chimed in on a couple of peoples post giving your opinion ( as someone who isn't banded ) and then started a couple threads of your own. Who is this doctor that doesn't seem concerned when you describe these symptoms? When was the last time your BF/Husband/Guy seen the surgeon? I hope everything gets better!

    What's the problem?

I like your surgeons advice. And I like that you called for a professional opinion. I eat more some days than others as well. I still get hungry at times, eat faster, chew less, and I'm 5+ years out. But occasionally, I won't eat anything solid all day. You don't sound like the volume was a significant change? Or not a total loss of restriction? If it were, I'd be concerned and look for an answer. Best wishes on your continued success!

    Banders Exercise

Sometimes you just don't have it!! I planned on running 15 miles today, but my legs started cramping around 8 miles into it, which is unusual for me. I finished the distance alternating walking/running. Hopefully my next long run is better. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/674289451
  10. Recently, when I try and look at someones Surgeons profile, I get the following message. I really like to be able to see a persons doctors info. Maybe I'm weird, but I like to know if "my surgeon says....." is coming from someone who has 1 or 31 years of "experience". Also, I like to be able to look and see if other patients of that surgeon experience similar. Why did this change? Thanks! David This is the message....it says whomever their doctor is. Ooops!Dr. Enochs does not currently have an active surgeon listing with BariatricPal! Please click here to go back to the surgeon search directory .

    I'd really like to know.....

@@lisacaron Or maybe it's some new "premium" feature???? Either way, I feel it detracts from the knowledge available here. I put little credence in someone who comes on here and says "my doctor no longer does lapband" and I look their doctor up and maybe call them, and they say of course we still do bands! Just nice to verify the source sometimes.

    I'd really like to know.....

I'm talking in general Lisa. I can't even "see" my surgeons info. ...Or Alex's. Am I the only one that can no longer see this?

    First Fill..

So soon? Hope you're doing well my friend!
  16. I'm just hearing/seeing that the Rock N Roll series is NOT going to be doing a full marathon in St. Louis this year. Have they dropped the full in other cities as well? Anyone with an opinion on that series?

    People need to Calm Down....Relax

    Another great post B-52
  18. "I" chose the Lapband because my surgeon, the professional, thought it would be best for me. I think he was right! Edited to add: Since you asked "We want to know...." I've seen many years worth of support group meetings. All different types of procedures: band, sleeve, bypass. Many successes with each. And those who are struggling..... Just this past Thursday night, it really hit home to me AGAIN. One lady who had sleeve about 2 years ago, Iseen do well for the first year. Now, gaining quite a bit back. Another lady who had sleeve about a year ago, lost well at first. Now struggling....a lot. Really made me sad. When I was talking with the NUT who leads the support group meeting after it was over ( we stick around and shoot the breeze, having cocktail's in the lounge and talking about other things, running/cycling, etc ), I told him how bad I felt for those two ladies and others in their situation. All that the medical professionals can tell them is to "diet" now...... I'm so glad mines adjustable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let the beating begin. Happy Monday!

    1 year bandiversary

@@naenaern777 I know this thread is older, but I'm just seeing it for the first time today. Wow. ...what a great story! Congrats!
  21. I noticed this post was made the day you joined the site, so it's not surprising you haven't seen much...YET. But keep digging/searching because there has been much discussion about how folks have improved and prolonged their life over the years on this site. Not everyone here is still "new" to this surgery.....maybe they/we want to talk about things after weightloss. We change and our interests change over the years. I can only talk about the best Protein shakes, what my pre-op diet was like, did I cheat on it, how is a fill done, does it hurt, for so long. I like talking about other things sometimes now. New shoes, what bike I'm gonna get, which HRM are the best....blah, blah, blah to someone wondering how they'll make it until their mushy stage! ( They're STARVING after all! ) I'm not sure if you're using the APP or on a PC, but in my opinion one doesn't seem to get the same "picture" using the app as you do a PC ( full website ). On the app, you can't tell much about the poster.....time on site, time since surgery, weight lost, etc.....all of which play into what we want to talk about. I'd encourage you to get on the full site and do some searching. You'll find topics about EVERYTHING on here. Congrats on being off to a great start!

  23. ".....my pain is slowly decreasing but I've noticed I don't feel that painful pull on my port "stitch" as I was feeling previously." Sounds like a good thing to me.

    New Here!

I had lapband in 2009. I can eat/drink ANYTHING I want. I do have a couple of foods that caused me grief a few times....so I just don't eat them any longer. But, hey....some things are worth giving up to be healthy! Who really "needs" brussel sprouts anyways You'll learn what works for you with any procedure you have, if you're dedicated to success. I've attended support group meetings for years. There are band patients, sleeve patients and Bypass patients there. I've seen a LOT of success with each procedure and those that have struggled with long term success with each procedure. Not sure why....but its just a fact. I wish you much success on whatever procedure you and your doctor decide is best for you! Theres a new life out there waiting for you.....go get it! Best wishes!
