    Whats your Menu

I switch schedules as well....shiftworker for 20+ years now. 5am start times (when I'm on days) make for a short morning workout for me, so I get the changing schedule thing, BUT I could find other excuses. You just gotta do whats most important to you..... If I'm "watching what I eat": Breakfast = I will usually have a home made Protein shake/smoothie. I use One scoop of my favorite Protein powder (25 grams), a combo of some of the following, half a bananna/blueberries/granola/strawberries/peanut butter, some almond milk, crushed ice in the Ninja. Keeps me satisfied until lunch. Lunch = some protein like baked/broiled fish, tuna salad, chicken salad, turkey breast, and usually some veggie. Broccoli, green Beans, etc. OR some home made Soup...I love my home cooked lentil soup with smoked jowl pieces, or chili. dinner = maybe some more grilled/baked fish, rotisserie chicken, slow cooker pork roast occasionally, usually a starch of some sort. I CAN eat just about anything...pizza, Pasta, rice, fried foods, Cookies, cake, you name it. There's only a very few things that are "off limits" to my band restriction level. My band helps restrict the volume I eat. I HAVE TO CHOOSE to limit how often I have them..... I agree completely with the idea you really need to get in to have your band checked as soon as is possible. Maybe an adjustment will get you back on track. For me...a properly adjusted band makes all the difference in the world. Best wishes!

    Day 18 post op

@@martini.js Hi and welcome to the forum. Great advice from the others....I just wanted to follow the post because I had my surgery done by HOAB ( almost 6 years ago) and it's good to see others on here from there. Take care! David

    Port Area Pain!

Me too! I'm paranoid that I ripped it from the muscle. No one tells us that there will be this specific pain. At least I know I'm not alone. How have your meals been? Sorry to hear of your discomfort. I was pretty fortunate I suppose....hardly any pain at all! I just sat in the recliner in between walking around.....with a nice amount of Rx pain meds the first few days. But that was 6 years ago now. What does your surgeons office say about the pain? Have they given you some pain meds? It is possible you're over doing it, lifting, etc and not resting up enough? Best wishes!

  7. @@AvalonNeeCee So because you say your surgeon doesn't do lapband anymore, you think that's a reason not to get one?????? Who is your surgeon? Why doesn't he/she do them? I find it almost comical you would post such a reply to someone who is asking for advice on HOW WE. ...THOSE OF US WHO HAVE IT, selected our surgeons. Some of us are very successful and HAPPY with our lapband results.
  8. My PCP recommended my surgeon. I then contacted his office and scheduled to attend one of his FREE seminars. Then visited with the actual surgeon about two weeks later. Felt really comfortable with the discussions and his experience. I think years of experience and numbers of procedures done would be 2nd and 3rd on my list of things to consider today. A surgeon who has access AND USES fluoroscopy for ALL adjustments would be my number one recommendation. I would NEVER recommend a doctor who still does "blind fills".

Where do you get your workout music? sources?

I use Pandora when cycling most of the time. When running I normally use a pre- made playlist. I get a lot of my music from http://www.steadymixes.com/ Also, I use "music manic pro" for some downloads.

The things no one tells you!

@@WoodenHearts Sorry to hear you're in such discomfort. I was one who basically had no discomfort from the surgical gas. My nurses had me walking a LOT. Maybe that helped me. I also had some good pain meds What are you injecting yourself for/with? I never had to do that. Why do you think you need to consume MORE calories 2 days post op? What is your post op "diet" consist of? I did a week of Clear liquids post op.....after the week of clear liquids pre op. I hope you get to feeling better and just remember, this is temporary. Best wishes!

    Pre op anxiety

Sounds just like me.....way back in 2009. I'm coming up on 6 years post op and there hasn't been one time I've regretted my decision to have Lapband surgery. Quite the opposite actually. Best wishes!

    100 pounds down!

    Congrats!
  13. Mo' Cowbell Marathon on October 4th in St. Charles, Mo. This will be my first full marathon. I'm using the walkjogrun.net "Beginner Run Marathon Training Plan" and plan on somewhere around a 5 hour pace. I'm at the end of the 3rd week of the 18 week plan. I've done 16 miles...once in the past, and this plan has you go up to 20 miles before the big day. I was thinking of starting a "Fall 2015 Goal Run" thread. No matter what distance each person is doing for this falls goal "race", maybe it'd help us achieve it. We could each put our daily or weekly training runs on there. Any interest?
  14. I do agree with you but in the back of my mind I feel that if increase my food intake it will boost my heart rate and thus lose more weight afterwards. My experience has been that eating more, NEVER, EVER, EVER caused me to lose more weight. Boosting my heart rate by cycling, running caused me to lose more.

Welcome to the other side and congrats on your surgery! It took me a few years of thinking about it before I had it done as well. It's been almost 6 years now since my surgery and I am soooooo thankful I had it done. Stick around and ask questions, read past topics/posts, and know there may be some hiccups or struggles/frustrations along the way, but you'll get through them. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

    Hello! Just had Lapband!

Sounds spot on to me. Two weeks of liquids post op for me too, many years ago now. Just keep sipping those liquids you're allowed to have. This is a very important time in your process, allowing everything time to heal properly. In a few short days, you'll probably be allowed to progress to mushies = HEAVEN! Don't worry about not having the urge to eat... It'll probably come soon enough! Congrats on your surgery and best wishes on your success!

3months out, 3rd fill, not one lb LOST!

Consider using the "full site" option on your phone if you can. The mobile site and app are lacking some user friendliness, IMO.

    Pre op blues!

So what do you expect to have lost in the 10 days? What is your calorie deficit counting BMR/calories in/exercise? Just off the top of my head, 7 pounds in 10 days doesn't sound too bad to me, considering everything you're allowed to have on your pre-op diet. I actually think it's pretty good! I was on Clear liquids only for a week pre-op, but that was almost 6 years ago. Hang in there!
  20. I have lapband, so this may not apply to any other types of WLS that provide malabsorption (RNY, etc), but this is my experience. A couple years back I did 6 months where I tracked everything...with a food scale for intake, and with a Heart rate monitor for exercise calories. Just wanted to do a little self experiment and prove to myself what I had always heard. Calculated my BMR into the equation and crunched all the numbers. While it was tedious and something I would never want to HAVE to do long term, it proved a couple things to me. 1. 3500 calories was exactly one pound for me, over the 6 months. 2. Eating more calories to lose weight NEVER, EVER, EVER works, for me. 3. When I track everything....the numbers don't lie. There were days or even a week or two here and there, where the calorie deficit didn't exactly match the scale. But over the long term, it all adds up.

    Recommended Fitness Trackers?

I have a Garmin 310xt, so I'm biased towards them....I often say its the best money I've EVER spent. When I first bought it over 2 years ago, I pretty much used it for cycling only. Now I use it for running, and some limited swimming. It has built in GPS, and you SHOULD use a Heart rate strap with it, although it works without it. Nothing that I'm aware of will accurately keep track of calories burned without a HRM. My GF has a Fitbit Charge HR, and she really likes it.....FOR MOST THINGS. It does not keep accurate distance when she runs. Walking it's spot on when compared to a GPS unit. IMO, "activity trackers" are a good device for general tracking. Fitbit makes the Surge as well that has a HRM built into it....but she took it back because it was too bulky for her. If you wanna check out DCRainmaker on youtube, he reviews all of the various devices. My vote.......Garmin products....and ONLY with a HRM. Just in case you're interested, heres what garmin shows.... cycling https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/786582265 running https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/793066873
  22. This is very interesting to me! Even though you were eating no more than 500 calories per day, you were putting ON weight. Then your endocrinologist sent you for WLS after getting your thyroid condition under control? My question is, do you think your weight gain was JUST thyroid related? If so, why WLS considering you were managing calories to less than 500 per day? If not, do you think the WLS has helped despite the thyroid issue? Thanks! And continued success

    Banded today 5/29/15

You were banded today and you have some "pinch pain" preventing you from laying down? I wouldn't think you have anything to worry about. That could possibly be where your surgeon placed your port. I slept in a recliner the first few days. A heating pad and ALL the pain med's they prescribed kept me very comfy. Best wishes on your new life!

    Feeling helpless

@@KellyKub I read your posts from back in 2009. You were ready to have it removed then, but haven't had an adjustment in 6 years? Does your current surgeon use fluoroscopy to check your band when you see him? When was the last time you seen him? It's no secret you're eating too much to lose weight.....you didn't really need the doctor to tell you that! If I were you, I'd be considering a couple things. WHY isn't your band helping control your food intake? Also, where is a different surgeon if he isn't willing to help you? Adjustment of the lapband is so important, IMO. Not something that is best done blindly.... Best wishes!

    Working out and gaining weight

@@rhya2k I can only talk about my experience, but for me, not eating enough has never caused me to gain weight. It was just the opposite. The less I eat, the more I lose. Years ago, I tracked EVERYTHING for 6 months. Intake, Exercise calories (using a HRM), and it showed me exactly what I've always heard/read. 3500 calories equals a pound....one way or the other. I'm not sure this holds true for everyone, but it certainly did for me. Best wishes on finding what will work for you!
