    Sigh... stall...

You are very early out Ouro and have lost a significant amount of weight already. Before a year out you will likely have reached goal! The energy thing is something you are grappling well with. Apple slices with almond/peanut butter or whatever as long as it's good nutrition your on the right track. I am happy you are not too quick to take the meds...good for you! However I find that a .05 Klonopin will sometimes relax me just enough to help with over apprehension. I've had month long stalls and then suddenly I'm down 5lbs. Try to think healthy nutrition for your body and get on the scale every other week maybe. Hang in there, I wish weight loss was my only concern since being sleeved.
  2. yep I'm with you there Jane and Tiff--I decided to have an endoscopy (July 7th) with a gastroenterologist (not my surgeon) who has a very good reputation in working with gastric bypass patients...he has all my surgical records and I feel he is the best choice in physicians at this point. I am going to contact him before my endoscopy and ask him about further testing as you suggest Tiff. Yeah all in all the weight loss is very satisfactory but the discomfort is troublesome and at this stage of my life I want some peace of mind and be able to appreciate lost weight. Thanks both for your input. I'll keep you posted and let you know the out come. In the mean while I am still trying to get a correct diagnosis with this perpetual sore throat. The Gastro doc who is doing the endo, 7/7, doesn't agree with the ENT that it's "silent reflux" or LPR BTW, since I've been on PPI medication for 8 months straight. He feels that the lump/sore/ mucusy throat issue would have resolved if it were LPR being my stomach acid is for the most part shut down. He feels it's some sort of salivary issue and said his endoscopy is limited to the esphogus and stomach better that another ENT examine me again. So.................that's another avenue yet unresolved. Thanks again my friends.
  3. Right well "slider foods" had the same ill effect on me as I explained I munched on 2 tortilla (dorito like but organic) chips a teaspoon of tuna salad, and then a yogurt and I had to stop short, dump the rest of the yogurt, stand and sweat out the discomfort and pain for nearly 10 minutes. Those are "slider" foods so I really got freaked out. I read somewhere in a post from Tiff that on high humidity days she feels more restriction so I'm wondering if that may be a factor since the humidity has been very high round this part of the planet. But if that is the case then I ask WHY? What would high humidity have to do with increased restriction? Just leaves me a bit more freaked out. I mean what is going on inside of me?? Having a normal stomach I never really thought about what was going on on the inside...having a test tube size stomach my thoughts dwell on how things are working in there. Mind you there are days when eating goes relatively sooth and I feel a sense of well being but it's not stable and I am wondering if ever it will be! At this point I'm not "rocking" my sleeve but it sure the hell is rocking me!
  4. Your pre surgical concerns are important and thank you for showing concern for me. It could very well be scar tissue, I also had a hiatal hernia repaired when I had the sleeve gastrectomy surgery, so perhaps the uncomfortable restriction I often feel has something to do with that. I have scheduled another upper endoscopy early in July with a gastroenterologist who is very familiar with gastric bypass. He has my records from my surgeon. I'm hoping that the hiatal hernia did not reoccur or that I have any erroneous problems that are not easily diagnosed hence remedied. Eating past my full point: Yes, when this happens I most certainly am eating past my full point, but that point seems to occur too soon...where I feel I am not getting appropriate nutrition. Feeling too full too soon freaks me out. I realize that I may be eating too fast since when I am on an empty stomach the sensation is like pre-sleeve so initially I may be taking in bigger bites and not chewing/eating slow enough. It's just that at almost 10 months out I would think I'd be past the tedious stage (it seems that the sleeve only slightly stretches if at all). Hot compresses on my throat? No I have not ever tried that. I suppose that might be a good idea before eating, or maybe even during a "meal". Thanks for the suggestion.
  5. I'm a 40f size but I had a hiatal hernia repair and really struggled to get my fluids in. I am still only able to eat small amounts of well chewed food and really only about 4-6oz of soft mushie stuff like hot cereal or yogurt, soup etc. I think the esophagus has so much to do with the difficulty. I am past 9 months out from surgery and after only a few (3-5 tablespoons of any food) my bra strap center of my chest becomes so tight that I have to loosen it...even then the tightness is there so it's not really the bra strap it's the esophagus I'm thinking. I hope you find a way to resolve the issues. My surgeon had me on reglan, (for motility more than nausea), early on while in hospital and afterwards at home. That medication caused me to get extreme anxiety and I had to stop taking it. I still have issues and am trying to work out the quirks from this surgery. Best wishes to you finding resolution to this and any other issue that may arise.

    Soy milk versus skim milk

Do you know of a clean/safe source online where raw milk can be purchased? There is whole foods store nearby but I don't think they sell raw milk. I have read so many good things about it.

    Soy milk versus skim milk

Hemp milk, Almond milk, hazelnut milk...heck they're milking just about anything these days! I personally like goat milk-tastes no different than cows milk. I like Soy milk too and I'm hoping that if it's certified USDA organic it won't wreak havoc inside me in some freaked out way!
  8. Congratulations Bryan, I am very glad that you had a safe experience and were not another statistic for an infection or worse leak. The fact that you are OK doesn't negate however or invalidate the trouble that too many other's have had in J/E. Hopefully the bad press has propelled this clinic to shape up. Best wishes for an uneventful recovery and successful WL journey.
  9. I am not sure if the problem I have had throat/mucus/sinus discomfort and soreness is related to the hiatal hernia possibly re-occurring. It's just speculation and guess work on my part. I am going to have an upper endoscopy early July for a check to see how the inside of my stomach and esophagus appears. I am also going to get a second opinion from another ENT w/regard to a diagnosis of LPR or Laryngopharyngeal Reflux. Something's going on with my throat and the gastroenterologist doesn't agree with the ENT's diagnosis since I've been on PPI's for many months now. I'll post a blog to keep people here informed. Thanks for your comment and concern and best wishes to you in your WL journey.

  12. Nothing like being a 40 eh sleeve sister?
  13. Thanks for reaching out... so sorry your in so much pain and distress. I've been there and know how it feels. To gain composure and get a bit calmer, do some immediate deep breathing while raising your arms up above your head. You need to relieve yourself of fear and anxiety. If your surgeon is inexcessable, formulate your message clearly, (what you feel and what you need--ALL your concerns) and leave a message w/date and time. Also, if you have a regular doctor (Primary Care Physician 'PCP'), contact him or her and let them know you need immediate help, ie. liquid precriptions..otherwise go to the ER and be sure to give them your surgeons information and bring some data/info on the surgery you just had, if necessary print info on the sleeve surgery out of your computer and make sure the staff knows what's going on. Let us know please how you make out.
  14. Dee so sorry...I had a hiatal hernia diagnosis pre surgery during the required pre-op upper endoscopy. My surgeon said he repaired it while doing the sleeve surgery. I recently went to a gastroenterologist re some issues I'm having...I asked him if the hiatal hernia can recur after it's repaired and he said that it can. I will be having another upper endo sched. in July. Keep us updated on Dr. Aceves feedback. I hope you get to speak with him directly.

If you look at the label of ingredients and it contains sucralose aka splenda---that is what is producing the noxious gaseous expulsions. I refuse to eat any artificial sweetener. Stevia, (brand I like is "Stevia in the raw) works GREAT to sweeten anything and there are quality Protein Bars out there which are free of genetically altered industrial substances that taste sweet.
  16. Thanks Katt good info. -Can you tell me the brand name of the Fish Oil you take and how many per day (do you take them all at once)? Thanks again.
  17. Katt, did you consult with any type of alternative/holistic/integrative professional in determining the dosage of Omega 3 to take or was it through trial? I so want to find my way to mental AND physical health through quality nutrition, nutritional supplementation, and physical activity. Although pharmaceutical medication is helpful, I personally prefer not to be dependant upon it long term.
  18. How about that! I saw this report recently. I'm glad you put it up as a post. My favorite vanilla bean, Solgar whey To Go contains .06 arsenic. I don't know if that's considered too much or a mere trace and if it is just a trace does that mean it's safe? :001_tongue:
  19. I am so sorry for the loss of your grandparents. Thank you for sharing some of your life with us. Your doctor seems to have good insight in realizing that post surgery you will no longer be able to use food to sooth and comfort. That reality hit me hard and at 9 months out, I am still grappling with alternative ways to effectively deal with the circumstances of my life and my emotions. Compared to early after surgery I'm improved...but I'm still using anti anxiety medication (sparingly) as a crutch when the anxiety is so bad that it hinders my already diminished capacity to eat. Alas I found a way to lose weight, but was blind to the reality that weight lost in and of itself was not the key to my fulfilment.

    Oh...ew...got it.
  22. I wish I had the ANSWER. Now I'm thinking that once this throat/sinus/reflux? problem is resolved then so will my hovering depression and relentless anxiety. I must say that since loosing a hefty amount of weight (was able to get into an old/new (never worn), pair of jeans yesterday, I am feeling more vulnerable physically and mentally. I don't know but my mind is reeling with information overload because I just keep looking for solutions. When I awake usually too early 5, 6, 7 AM...I am literally burning with anxiety in the "pit of my stomach"...I choose to pray. I often dream and awake with an eeire, or disturbed feeling. I fall asleep again and when I again awake I'm ready to rise but the anxiety lingers as well as that hovering depression, (a general feeling of gloom, and sadness). I've lost my spark and motivation--I don't even care to buy new clothing. I'm trying very hard to shake off these oppressive feelings. The more I read these boards the more I am seeing that I am not alone.....Yet I know there are many here who feel elated since their surgery and have inspiring stories to tell and that's what I want to feel. It's summer and I had hoped with winters passing I would have been lifted...I'm not..so those of you out there who need to express the blues and those who can offer possible solutions...keep them coming. Thanks Ouro...youknowit, katt, ryansgirl, eloquentblue ...

Please clarify. If you didn't mean that YOU force yourself to gag and that since the surgery you find you gag, I gagged for nearly 3 months maybe more, every morning when I brushed my teeth and/or gargled. Just the Water hitting my tongue made me gag and dry heave. So far not one doctor could give me any explaination for it ...troublesome when surgeon, PCP, gastro, or ENT(2)---are clueless. If you are forcing yourself to gag I strongly suggest you stop before you do harm to your body.
  24. I am still trying to figure out if having the sleeve causes acid reflux. I just went to a gastro specialist and have an upper endo scheduled in July. After seeing an ENT recently who did a quick scope and diagnosed me with LPR or "silent" acid reflux, the gastroenterologist told me he doesn't think it's acid reflux since I've been taking a PPI for several months already, I had the sleeve surgery in Sept, 2009. My throat is usually mildly sore and has a kind of mucus that lingers. He gave me the name of another ENT. He also said that usually after this WLS, acid reflux is not a problem...(he has treated many gastric bypass patients). Can you tell me what kind of doctor diagnosed you initially with Barrett's Esophagus with mild dysplasia? Was it a gastroenterologist or ENT? Also what tests were given? Thanks.

What do you mean "you make yourself gag"? Are you saying that you force yourself to gag as in throw up?
