gabybab got a reaction from FluffyChix in Can't tolerate protein supplements.
I couldn't tolerate them either. It is the whey and would trigger my gag reflex. I literally ate night Protein yogurt and high protein milk for 3-4 weeks.
I recently tried muscle milk coffee latte and it has milk protein and is kinda tasty.

gabybab reacted to GreenTealael in What to bring with to the hospital
Try not to bring too much. I over packed for both of my surgeries (and im a minimalist)
The thing I used the most was the button for the pain pump
Good Luck 💜

I brought my I'd, my cpap and phone & charger. I wore the same clothes to and from home. You literally sip, walk and sleep. I didn't bring anything else.

Have you tried double milk - essentially milk mixed with powdered milk. (or add milk powder to yogurt - Water down the yogurt to a consistency you can have). That helped me when I started to not tolerate Protein Shakes.

gabybab reacted to elcee in How much food should I be eating?
At this point it’s usual to be measuring volume, generally about a 1/4 cup is what is recommended

⬆Agreed⬆
Also fluids are usually much more important at this stage

Yeah, I don't think everyone did...
Typically (or in many) of this type of thread question, the discussion gets very spirited with people either defending or asserting their position or right not to have to be the food police for the rest of their born days. Sometimes fireworks spontaneously errupt.
hehe. And I was trying not to insert my particular obsession love of weighing and measuring to the nth degree on the poor newbie OP--so I was gonna recuse myself from answering seriously. LOL! bahahaha.

Weighing is definitely important. My surgeon and team say it allows us to see what we are eating and taken in the proper portions so we do not overeat or stretch your sleeve or pouch. I do measure and find it helps me a lot. A friend of mine began to gain... she was not weighing her meals. Unintentionally overeating. Soon as she began weighing meals the weight began to drop again. Good luck and I hope this helps

gabybab reacted to AnnieD78 in No restriction?
I think you misread.... phase 3 starts 2 weeks after surgery. But it lasts for 6-8 weeks. -
gabybab got a reaction from FluffyChix in No restriction?
I'm 6 months out and can barely eat 2 oz of dense Protein and I get a very full feeling. I don't understand why your Dr would advance you to 6-8 weeks at 2 weeks. Personally I don't feel getting enough protein in without shakes/high protein yogurt is possible.
Take it slow at your stage. It will be best to allow for the most weight loss.
Good luck!

At 12 days? I don't think so. Take a pic of it and post it for us.
At 12 days many of us were still on pure liquids. Liquids you might be able to do 3-4oz of a Protein Drink at a meal...maybe, maybe not. But solids it's 1/8-1/4 cup max volume. That is about 1oz of Protein by weight.
One ounce of protein by weight (think ground turkey) occupies about 3/16 cup (almost 1/4cup) of volume!
I'm 18 months and my forever diet is supposed to only be 1 cup by volume. In that volume, I can fit about 3-4oz of protein by weight = about 7g per ounce of weight.

gabybab reacted to mousecat88 in Supporting Cast
I did not have any real support. My mother, who is my only real family, was 20000% against it and my coworkers were like "oh, okay" when I told them. lol. I've found that I don't actually need anyone else because I am accountable only to myself. It's nice talking online to people that have had it, too. But in "real life"... I'm my own cast.

I got that magic phone call today, I'm approved for surgery and will meet the surgeon this Friday. I just finished the options classes 2 weeks ago and my last requirement on Monday. I'm very proud of myself for this progress, but there's more to do and as those of you who are on this journey know, we all need somebody. You are the star of your "life", but who is your supporting cast for this part of the journey and is it who you thought it would be?
My support group is strong at times and other days I realize just how much of this is all me. I'm used to it being only me, but this journey requires vulnerability and transparency (at least for me), I need my supporting cast more than I thought...
Who are your supporters???
