Baby spinach salad with chopped leftover chicken tikka (2oz), ash goat cheese from this weekends farmers market (.75oz), 6 almonds, chopped, and 1.25oz raspberries, tossed with 1.5 tsp white peach balsamic vinegar and 1tsp Croatian olive oil. ~295 calories. Yum.

Can anyone tell me in layman's terms what a ds does? My Dr wanted me to do this surgery, but opted for a sleeve. Can you convert to a DS from sleeve. Thanks so much! Sorry, not trying to hijack your post 😋

My weight loss has been pretty remarkable and has definitely exceeded my expectations when I started this journey.
I've said it before, but it's worth repeating: please don't compare yourselves to anyone else in this forum. We all started at different places and had different issues. Everyone's body is unique and will react to weight loss surgery differently. (Bear in mind that men usually lose weight more quickly.) The ultimate goal for all of us is better health, and if you are making progress toward that goal, you are succeeding.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for participating in this forum and for sharing your stories, which have been a source of information, inspiration and reassurance for me. Keep up the good work, everyone!

I have my 6 month check-up in 10 days and will be 6 months post-op the 25th. I have lost 75 pounds and am happy with it. I can fit into a booth easily now and overall feel much better. I still have 85 pounds to lose, but taking it one day at a time and hopefully can get there by 1.5 year post-op. Stay in touch everyone!

I agree with Jenn. I was very regretful the first week. By week 2 it was so much better and today life is so much better. Hang in there.💗

^^ what he (she?) said. And yes - a sleeve-to-DS conversion is easy, since you already have a sleeved stomach (DS'ers have a sleeved stomach plus an intestinal bypass). It's a pretty straightforward conversion - they just add the intestinal part since you've already had the VSG part. An RNY-to-DS conversion is much more complicated.

    Check this picture out.

    1. The stomach is sleeved.
    2. The small intestine is mostly bypassed to the larger intestine which causes less of the food you eat to be absorbed. (Malabsorption)
You are forced to eat less due to the size of the stomach.
What you can eat, not much is able to be used by the body.

I'm not a surgeon, but I would think its possible to switch from a sleeve to a DS as you've done step 1 already. Just need to do step 2.
I'm sure others will help explain things more and cover what I missed here.

Hey guys decided I would post some pics and my story. I’m Mike and I’m 37 from Montreal. Waited a full 5 years to get this surgery. Best decision I ever made.

Surgery was Nov. 22, 2018 and I’ve since lost over 180 lbs! I work out 6 times a week; cardio, swimming and various exercises.

let me know what you think!

    mike

I'm so sorry that your family members have treated you with disrespect. My mom made a few comments when I was young about losing weight, although I was only maybe 15 pounds overweight, nonetheless it makes you feel less than.
I have 2 adult children and to be honest I have worried about their weight. Neither is overweight, but I know the challenges I have faced and don't want them to ever go through that themselves. However, I would never comment negatively to either one. My so is a body builder, and that has worries, and my daughter has always been small. Maybe your family cares but has a shi*** way of showing.

Anyway, do what is best for you and do not feel guilty not telling anyone. I have a lot to lose & really don't care who knows, but we all need to do what is best for our own self.

Best of luck on your journey!😊

This does seem worrisome. I agree with Fluffy! Got to the ER. I have never thrown up and if I were to throw up this much, I would be there in a minute. Good luck! Let us know how you do!

This is now in ER mode. Go to the ER. If you TRULY can't even hold fluids down...you need IV fluids at this point. Let them sort out testing and admit you if necessary. I'm betting you have a stricture.
But the critical thing is that you NEED fluids. We need MINIMUM of 4oz of fluids per hour on average to replace vomitus and big D.
    ((hugs)) and go!

Hi November! Welcome to the convo!
Goody - Thanks for the advice. I should’ve checked this earlier to see if you responded because he got the braces this morning! But at least it’s done. We’ll just figure out the details as we go. They were only paying for $1500 of it anyway. He had to have some oral surgery in the hospital etc. etc. etc. so really in the long run $1500 isn’t the worst.
Sheri you are looking lovely as always. My mom would have loved your shirt. She was a huge OU fan. My husband a huge Texas fan so that was always a fun conversation. My mom was from Okmulgee Oklahoma. Ever heard of it?

    Congrats Pattianne!

2B - you’ll have to define “bad days” for me. I still puke now and then and sometimes I even still spit out that last bite of food. I get a little ahead of myself rushing.

OK last thing and this is super personal but has to do with weight loss surgery so I’m sharing. For the last four weeks I have been battling symptoms of a urinary tract infection. I have been on antibiotics and they have sent my samples to the lab twice. I get the new results later today. The last time I gave a sample they said I was extremely dehydrated. So I have been chugging Water which seems to have really helped all the problems I was having. Just something to think about because we focus so much on food. I was literally only using the bathroom twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. So I am actively forcing fluids now. Hopefully that will resolve the issue once and for all... (Hope you enjoyed that bit of TMI!)

My Hair loss has finally stopped! It was weird it’s sort of just all fell out at once and then stopped immediately. So I got my hair highlighted and I feel pretty now. I have been trying to increase my calories and stop the weight loss. I gained a pound in the last couple of days and that’s exciting. Between the dehydration and the (almost) scary weight loss- it was a little concerning. I’m starting to feel better now though. Nice checking in on everyone! Hope everyone is well.

Yesterday I went to Dress Barn to purchase some smaller pants. It was the first time ever I went to the regular size side of the store YEAH. I must admit I did feel a little lost, had no idea what size I am. The saleslady had me spin around and told me I was a REGULAR size 16!!. When I went to purchase the pants she told me I saved $10 on each pair because regular size is cheaper! YEAH
