gabybab got a reaction from gerl86 in February 2019 Sleevers?
I have my 6 month check-up in 10 days and will be 6 months post-op the 25th. I have lost 75 pounds and am happy with it. I can fit into a booth easily now and overall feel much better. I still have 85 pounds to lose, but taking it one day at a time and hopefully can get there by 1.5 year post-op. Stay in touch everyone!

This month is 6 months out now for us 2019 February sleeve Surgery twins!
How are we all doing? Any common problems? Everyone looking and feeling great?
I am down over 90lbs. and would love to lose another 25-30 lbs. - but as expected losing is getting slower.
    Only negative issues for me so far;
    1. I was really tired for a few months after surgery butt that is better now, much more energy than before surgery!
    2. I have woken up several times at night choking on stomach acid. Not eating for a couple hours before bed, and we got a bed that props my head up a bit and that seems to have resolved that for the most part at home, however when I travel for work I tend to eat later, and stay in hotels where the beds are flat is certainly when I have the issue most often.
    3. I do have some loose skin, but its not terrible...
    4. I have thrown up a few times but only if I take my Multivitamin on an empty sleeve...

For the positives - I Look better, I sleep better, I feel better, I( have more energy, and many more!
I hope you guys are all doing great - let us know!

gabybab reacted to Arturo Federico in My RNY story two years post-op
    Hello,
My name is Arturo and I am 2 years post-op Gastric Bypass. I have lost a total of 185 pounds which for once in my life I could say I am not over weight. Unfortunately, when I had my surgery I was readmitted to the hospital a week later with abdominal pain which turned out to be a Portal Vein Thrombosis due to the surgery. This started my hell of Portal Hypertension and an enlarged spleen that has caused constant abdominal pain ever since. Luckily I was able to find a hepatic surgeon who could help my issue by restoring blood supply to my liver which has been reduced since the surgery 2 years ago.
I am happy that my blood supply has been restored but it seems that I am able to eat more and unfortunately I gained back 15 pounds and I am starting to get worried. As I start feeling better I plan to go back to the Gym and work on my diet so I can get my weight back down again or at least maintain because I feel better at my current weight.
Moral of the story I have been asked so many times if the RNY surgery was worth it due to everything I have been through. I counter with this statement I would not regret having the surgery as at the time I had no reason to think that i would have a Portal Vein Thrombosis and I am not sorry for the decision that I have made. Either way this complication could happen for any other surgery in the abdomen, not necessarily a gastric surgery such as the RNY.
Anybody who is considering having the gastric bypass or any other surgery to help them with their weight just remember that complications can happen. Just be aware of them and make your decision accordingly. I look forward to being a part of this forum and if anyone has any questions please let me know.

This was my very concern. I was advised to just take my metformin. I was on that, plus glimperide and 72 units of lantus at night. It is best to discuss this with his endocrinologist.
I Am now on an occasional glimperide or 25 units of lantus at night, depending on my bs numbers. Hopefully as I continue to lose I will not need anything anymore. I'm almost 6 months post-op and almost halfway to my Dr's goal. Good luck!

Today is exactly 8 months since my VSG surgery. I haven't lost as much weight as I had hoped to be this point, but I got back my first lab results since having the sleeve done and I am reflecting on how much healthier I am now than 8 months ago.
Since having the WLS I have gotten rid of several co-morbidities: no more high blood pressure, no more sleep apnea, no more GERD, no more acid reflux.
These are the best lab results I have EVER had! My triglycerides 18 months ago were 353 and now they're just 104!
    I'm not pre-diabetic anymore!
I'm having no trouble absorbing Vitamins . . . in fact they're way above the range where they should be, so I'm super-absorbing them now or something, taken just one soft chew each of Vitamin D, B12, calcium citrate and Multivitamin daily.
So as I sit here sometimes wishing the scale was showing a lower number, I recognize how blessed I am with these great health results and am so happy that I had this surgery.

My date is set and I'm thinking to myself - is this really the right thing? Yes, I KNOW it is! I need to be healthy - my joints just ache and other obese issues cause trouble.
But, I read over stories all the time here - both good and bad. Then wonder - What if I end up having consequences? And then scary in another way - what happens when I'm thin? (Having not really been anywhere near thin since 15.)
Anyway - I just had to put this out there to other understanding souls :)

A lot has happened between month 20 to 21:
    a. I was revised to a bypass for treatment of GERD/spiraled sleeve/structure. Major.
    b. My BF relocated out of state 😳. I know...
    c. Walking/exercise has decreased until I am healed completely
    d. I watched The Boys (Amazon) πŸ˜‚
Boring food photos this month because not much variety in my menu. But shameless selfies abound πŸ’–

gabybab reacted to 336Mike in How did your mental health change after surgery?
I've experienced many positive changes. I live life now, instead of existing. The are still times I feel "fat" and unhealthy but they is fat from the truth. I'm the healthiest and most active I've ever been. I challenge myself to get out and do things. That was a struggle in the past. I'm somewhat introverted and have some social anxiety but I'm determined not to let it control my new life. It's amazing what we can do, or not do, when we convince ourselves with different thoughts. I still have a hard time meeting women but I'm trying to work on that. Alot of it is my own fears and insecurities.

I am averaging 6-7 pounds a month now. So pretty close to what you are losing. I feel like I am slow loser in comparison (which I know we shouldn't do) to others who had same starting stats as myself. As long as it keeps coming off I'll be happy with that. You are right, it all adds up, just keep on keeping on. We'll get to our goals.

I’m approaching 13 months out from WLS and my overall weight loss has been 1.86/week
However it was much higher in the earlier phases of my weight loss journey. But even so, I’m down 125 lbs so who cares how slow it comes off as long as it comes off????
