  1. Hi Gretchen!

How's it going? Do you notice any restriciton now? I got my fill yesterday. It all went well. I have a total of 3 cc now. I had 1 cc after surgery and they added 2cc yesterday. I am on liquids for 24 hours, so I can't tell the difference yet. I am excited to get the scale moving down again...I had been losing and gaining the same 1 lb. for 4 weeks! Let me know how you are doing! : ))))

  2. Hi Dionne! How are you doing?? I got my fill yesterday. All went fine. It was over in less than 10 minutes! I ended up with a total of 3 cc in the band. I had 1 cc after surgery, then they added 3 cc at the fill, but like you, that was too much and I could feel the water coming back up, so they took out 1 cc and it was perfect. So, now I am also at 3cc! But now I have a question that only the doctor can answer. I am not sure if I have a 10 cc band or a 10cm band! All I can remember is 10! If it's a 10cm band, then maximum capacity is 4 cc. If it is a 10 cc, then it can hold 10 cc maximum. Big difference! It doesn't really matter which size, and you will still get to your sweet spot just the same, but obviously the bigger the band, the more fills! I am on liquids for 24 hours, then I can eat. I am ready to get that scale moving down baby!!

Hope things are going well for you!!

    Not losing post op

Hi! Don't worry, Restless Monkey is right. You are healing right now and your body is adjusting. Sounds like you are eating good and exercising, but your body has been through a huge change...give it time. Having said that, I am 6 weeks out from surgery (getting my first fill today) and have not lost any weight in 4 weeks. I have managed to lose and gain the same 1 lb every week! But still, I am not upset because I know this is somewhat normal. After the fill, I can expect more restriction and slowly to get to where I want to be. Sometimes we have to remember that this is a slow road to success...so be patient and give yourself big hugs for accomplishments already!!

    Mixed emotions about first fill!

Thanks for all your responses and advice! Today is the day and I am feeling really good about it. I weighed this morning and I am still chasing that 1 lb. around! I am essentially the same weight as 1 month ago...so the fill is needed! I am ready! I will let you know how it goes! Best wishes to you all!
  5. Hi! Do you have a surgery date or in the process? I am only 6 weeks out from surgery...so far, so good! I wish you the best of luck and let's talk more!

  6. Hi Katja,

You are an inspiration! Your pictures are great! I can't wait to show my before and after pictures! I sure have alot of before pictures! haha! I always wanted to go to Germany. I studied german in high school and remember a little of it! (Ein biBchen). What time of year (season) is it in Stuttgart? It's spring here in Texas. It was fun chatting with you today! Take care and keep up the good work!

Katja! You are looking so good! Sehr gut! Wunderbar!
  8. Hi! You got your fill! Yay! How did it go? So, you ended up with 1 1/2 cc total? Do you feel some restriction now? I am hardly having any restriction now. I have been gaining and losing the same 1 lb. for a month now, so I am definitely in need of that fill! It won't be long, this Monday! Do you have to be on liquids for 24 hours after the fill? I have heard that some doctors do that. Not sure what mine does yet, I will found out soon! Take care and can't wait to hear about your progress!!

  9. Hi Dionne!

So you got your first fill!! Exciting! So you have a total of 3cc right now? And you are noticing a good amount of restriction! That's awesome. Did you have to drink liquids for 24 hours after? Some doctors require this. Also, did they do the fill under fluroscopy? I am imagining it's a big change to have the restriction now. If you were like me, I didn't have much restriciton anymore, so it probably feels really different now. I hope it continues to go well for you and can't wait to see your progress! I go Monday for my fill, which is good b/c I weighed this morning and had gained 1 lb.! I have been gaining and losing the same pound for a month now! Definitely time for a fill! : ))))

  10. I agree with Glorybee, it takes time to heal and feel better. It was about 2 weeks for me before I felt "almost" back to normal and 1 month before I was back to normal. I did over do it a couple of times and was very tired, very quickly in doing normal things. Give yourself time to heal - you will be happy you did in the end! Congratulations and good luck on your journey!!
  11. Hi!

28 lbs. down! That is awesome!!!! Congradulations to you! When was your surgery? Who is your doctor? I am in Lewisville, not far from you at all! I used Dr. Veninga in Carrollton. I had my surgery over a month ago and I feel 100% again. I go for my first fill on 4/6/09 and I am excited about that. The next month will filled with alot of changes for you, but just sit back and enjoy the ride! It's all good and you will get there!!! You'll get the hang of labbanktalk in no time, it's pretty easy.

  12. Hi Laura, how are you doing? Haven't heard from you in a while! All is going well here, just waiting for that first fill on 4/6/09...tick tock...tick tock...ha ha!

  13. Hi Gretchen,

That's awesome you got your first fill!! Are you on liquids for 24/48 hours? I hear this is protocol for fills. I will be curious to see if you feel restriction and I hope you do! I am doing good and anxiously awaiting my first fill. I am holding steady with my weight loss, but am ready to see some smaller numbers on the scale. On the plus side, I have been fitting into smaller clothes myself and finding that I have a whole new wardrobe in my own closet - for free! Yippee! Let me how you do in the next few weeks! Take care!

    Pre opt diet

I will just say that the liquid diet was really, really, really hard for me. Others say it was no big deal. I did find that after the 3rd day, it did get easier and I thought of food less often. I was not allowed anything but protein shakes. I could have broth and that was nice, especially on a cold day! One thing I did was just try to keep busy and when I started thinking of food, I would change my activity, go for a walk, watch my favorite TV show, etc. Anything to keep your mind off of it! You can do it though, really you can! I did it and I would have never guessed it!! Good luck!! : ))))

    2 Year Journey

Wow! Looks like waiting for the doctor to get on your insurance is paying off!!! Great story and how wonderful to be able to do this together! It really does take all the support you can get and having your wife in the same boat will really help you both! I wish you both so much luck and improved health very soon! All the best!

    Mixed emotions about first fill!

I think I was in Bandster Hell for a while, I was really, really hungry and felt like I could eat anything! There were some days that I did eat too much and then felt really bad with some chest pains and hiccups. I have since learned to eat less and not to push it so much. But still, I know I am not feeling the restriction needed to lose the 1-2 lbs. a week that we all want. Don't get me wrong, I am excited about the fill and will be going to my first fill visit. I am not afraid of the process at all, just on how my body might react. I have heard some horror stories about bands being too tight and not being able to get anything down. I know it takes patience to find the "just right spot" or "sweet spot" and I am okay with that. Of note, I am having my "monthly" right now and have noticed that the band feels tighter than it had - any correlation? I don't know?

    Decaf Coffee

I had regular coffee on about the 2nd or 3rd day after surgery with no problems! Now I drink 1 cup every morning! I have heard of some doctors not wanting their patient's to have it, but I am not sure why this would be. I am thinking it is just the doctor's opinion about coffee in that situation! One thing is for sure, my doctor is definitely against any carbonated beverages, unless they have gone flat, but still he says - just don't do it! Good to luck you!
  18. Hi!

You and I are losing the same amount of weight and I am also in size 16 right now, down from 18! Yippee!!! This is exciting and I can't wait until I have some restriction and really see some pounds coming off! I can't wait to hear about your fill!! Keep up the good work and keep smiling!! : ))))

    Guess Who Came to Stay

That was sooo funny! You had me in stitches! :mad2: If you are not a writer, you should be! Very good stuff. Okay, on to the lapband...I hear you! I am right there too! Yes, this is Bandster Hell and Beezlebub is definitely lurking around the corners! I am curious why your doctor wants to wait so long for a fill? My doctor is a 6 weeks filler, no matter what, kind of guy! Some people have every 4 weeks fillers! I guess that's just how it goes. But I would rather go slow, than too fast and have too much fill anyday! I am about 1 month postop lapband surgery and feeling a small amount of restriction myself, but yes, the hungry monster has come back to my home too! I am trying to keep my portions down, do some walking and hoping to maintain my weight loss until my fill. Since I am no good at dieting (obviously), I will have to be patient!! Good luck to you!!
  23. Hi! How are you doing this week? Feeling better? Are you still on liquids or have you transitioned to soft foods now? How did your postop visit go? Everything is going good here. I am feeling almost 100% now. We went camping this weekend and I did alot of walking. I was pretty good with my food. I can eat most anything right now with some restriction, so I am excited about getting a fill so that my portions can go down! I want to start losing again. I think I lost 1 lb last week, but as soon as I started solid foods, the weight loss slowed down. I hear this is all normal though. George (the PA) told me that maintaining before your first fill is about all you can expect, so I have lost 1 lb., so I must be doing good! lol! Take care!

  24. Hi! A fellow Texan! So, is your surgery today? 3/23/09? Good luck to you!! Let me know how you do! I love this site and think it's a great way for support. I am almost 1 month postop now, so far, so good!

This truly is a new beginning!!!

  25. P.S. They didn't have to repair the stitch thank goodness. They checked it on ultrasound and said the port had moved slightly, but not enough to warrant surgery. The stitch itself will heal fine with time.
