  1. Hey girl, how you doing? I am doing pretty good, but feel I could be doing better. I am not giving up though! I am starting to exercise more and more and now I am going to watch what I eat a little more and see if that doesn't get the ball rolling a little faster. Since my last fill, I have actually gained 2 lbs. and finally (2 weeks later) lost those 2 lbs., leaving me back to where I was 3 weeks ago! This is frustrating, one step forward and two steps back! URGH! Hope you are doing better!

    Shelley : )~

  2. Hi Sommer! How's it going? Have you gotten a 3rd fill yet? I got my second fill on May 11th. I haven't had much weight loss since the last fill. I am scheduled for June 22nd for the next one! Don't really want to wait that long! I am down about 23 lbs, weighed 181 this morning. I feel like I am in a rut. I have been eating smaller portions, but I feel as time goes on, I am able to eat more and more. Also, I don't always eat the healthiest food. I think I will focus on eating healthier right now and see what happens. I hope you having wonderful success!

Why "Chew To Liquid" is Absurd

I think SunnyRachel summed it up quite nicely! Totally agree! BethfromVA - Why do you continue to read these posts if you don't like what Dr. V has to say and thinks he is "off"? Just wondering?!!
  4. Hi,

So glad to hear you are doing well and lost 75 lbs.!!! Congratulations! I did get banded on 2/25/09 and have lost about 23 lbs. to date. I did have a hiatal hernia and they did repair it during surgery. I am still taking medication for heartburn, but hope to be off of this medication with a few more pounds lost. One can hope!

The band has been great with few problems for me. Sometimes the loss seems so slow and other times it comes off in big numbers. I guess we take the good with the bad! I hope you are doing okay and find some more answers on this site! Best of luck to you!

  5. Hi Gretchen!!!

Don't give up girl! You can do it!! Remember, it's a slow and steady race, but persistence wins! I also felt restriciton at the beginning of my fill, then it would loosen up on me too. I just had my 2nd fill last Monday. I can definitely feel it now and even had a "stuck" episode...man that hurt! I felt like I didn't do very well with my first fill. I lost 5 lbs. in 5 weeks. But my doctor told me that was actually really good for a first fill and that ideally for me, 1 lb. a week is optimal. The amount you lose depends on your beginning weight of course, so the more you weigh, the more you lose. Anyway, I have days where I think this is too slow for me too! But then I remember that I wasn't doing very well without it, so just hang in there! How much total have you lost? I have lost 22-23 lbs. so far...and still counting! I will be here if you need to talk again!!

    Shelley :cool2:

  6. Hi Dionne!

21 lbs.! Hooray for you! That is awesome! I go today for my second fill (hopefully). It's been 5 weeks and I have lost an average of 1 lb. a week, so I hope they give me a bit more. **Fingers crossed** I have had a few episodes with things getting stuck too and F. Fries on the the top of the list! Darn it! I use the chewable vitamins now, tried the liquid and couldn't stomach it! Blahhhh! 16's getting loosier on me too! So excited! You are right, the confidence boost is amazing! I am loving it! Can't wait to see what happens next! Here's to success girl!! : )~

  7. Hi Shonia!

Glad to hear that things are going good for you and you are making some progression into the lapband. I think that everybody has those fears, girl, really it's normal! But at some point, you have to start believing that it will work and that you can make it work! The self doubt is what keeps us grounded and from reaching our goals....breakthrough and find the strength! I know you can! I wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing how you are doing!

I am doing good and still losing. Down 22 lbs. so far! I go for my next fill this coming Monday, May 11th. I am trying to focus on exercise now! Just getting into the habit is the key!

    Take care!

  8. Hi Gretchen! I am so glad to hear that your 2nd fill has given you restriction! YAH!! It's funny how some people feel on their first fill and some don't feel it until their 3rd or 4th! I definitely felt mine, but I am going for a 2nd fill real soon! I have done pretty good though and lost 5 lbs. since my first fill. It has been up and down though. I haven't gotten anythign stuck or thrown up yet...thank goodness! But I have learned that eating slow and chewing well is the key! It's easier said than done for sure. It requires some thought, instead of just eating on autopilot! Also, not drinking while I eat has been hard for me, but I am doing well with it now and think I have overcome that part! I have a lost a total of 22 lbs. so far. I would like to say its more, but I am happy all the same. I have not been exercising consistently though, so that is my next move. Can't wait to hear how you are doing!

    Take care!

    Shelley

  9. Hi! Guess I should have read this post first before I replied to the private message! So, they didn't give you a fill? But you said you were losing consistently, so I guess that's why. If you are losing, then it's working! They may say the same to me when I go! I think sometimes its easy to want it all now and try to remember that slow and steady wins the race!! You are doing great! You are in inspiration!

Talk to you soon! Take Care!

  10. Hi! How did your stress test go? Are you feeling better about the surgery? Hope to catch you on IM soon! All is going well here. I am very happy I had lapband and feeling better every single day. Take cae and talk to you soon!

    Shelley

  11. Hi! How are things going? Did you get your 2nd fill yet? I am scheduled for may 19, but they said I could come in sooner. I think I will schedule something sooner. I am doing good and seeing progress, but it's slow and I can get more food that I did when I first got my fill! Cake is still hard for me to eat! But I am okay with that. Cookies are not a problem though! : ) But still, I only have 1 or 2 if I do indulge. My mammo went well, the spot they were concerned about turned out be nothing. All is good! Yeah!

This is crazy, I need more room!!

I did have a non-scale victory yesterday. I found that I can wear Large tops now instead of XL! I am starting to see the changes in my body and face. It's very rewarding. One thing that I did find that I have a hard time eating is cake. Yes, I know, probably shouldn't have much of it anyway, but for whatever reason it really chokes me up! So, actually that is kind of cool. Built in protection against cake!

I am kinda bummed today, I have to go get a repeat mammogram because my mamo showed an irregularity they called calcifications. They say not to worry, but you can't help it. I go next Tuesday.

Okay, I should go. Hope you have a great rest of the week and wonderful weekend!!

    Shelley:tongue2:

  13. Hi Dionne!

I think it's great to find lapband buddies on here and we are in such a similar situation, it makes us natural friends! It's like therapy for both us to hear what the other is up to!

I am not too upset about missing fries either! I find that it's more important to focus on the things that we can do, rather than what we cannot do. I love thin crust pizza and have been able to eat it too. I think having a weekend treat is a great idea. Weekends are definitely more laid back for me too.

We don't have really have a beach close, I live just outside of Dallas. But I do like going to the lake or a swimming pool. I was just looking at bathing suits in a catalog yesterday and trying to decide whether I wanted to get new one now or just wait. I like your idea of waiting...then we can wear something really killer!

    -to be continued-

  14. -continued-

I haven't been exercising as good as I should and that is my plan, to get on a daily program of biking/cycling. I have found that I have adjusted pretty well to the adjustment and are seeing some immediate results. I finally hit the 20 lbs. lost mark today! I am so happy about that. I know what you mean about baggy size 18's, but too expensive to replace them all. Maybe you can reward yourself with 1 new pant suit. Is it possible that you can wear dress slacks and just change up your shirts each day? You may have to get creative with your clothing on the way down. But, hey, what a terrible problem to have, huh?!! LOL! Keep up the good work! Talk to you soon! Shelley

  15. Hi!

I have eaten a few things that did not agree with me too well. I have learned that french fries and lapband don't go together (for me anyway). I have only eaten 2-3 bites and then it's like a lead balloon trying to go down. I guess these things are trial and error for us all. Eventually we will figure out what we can and can't eat or should I say, what is worth it and what is not worth it!!!

  16. Hi Guy! Sounds like you are doing awesome!! Way to go! You are an inspiration to us all! : )

Things are going well for me too. I got my first fill last week and it is going good. I can go back in 2 weeks if I need another fill. Hard to tell right now if I do or not. I definitely have restriction and am still adjusting to the band. Now, to work on the daily exercise!! : ))))

  17. I did find out that I have a 10 cc band! Apparently, the 10cm is the older version.

  18. Hi everyone! I was banded on 2/25/09 and had pretty good restriction in the beginning (like most) and have slowly started losing restriction. Which I hear is normal. I still have some restriction, but I am able to eat most anything. My first fill is coming up on 4/6/09. I am both excited about this and scared. Excited for the obvious reasons, to lose weight! Scared, because I guess it's the unknown. To date I have been able to eat what I want and I know this will change with some restriction. I knew this from the beginning, but this time before restriction has given me some freedom . Are these fears unfounded? I am still losing about 1/2 lb. a week currently and definitely eating less than I used to. Any advice??:tongue_smilie:
  19. Hi Sommer! How's it's going? Are you scheduled to get another fill? I just got my first fill yesterday. I have 3 cc now. It's too early to tell how much restriction since I am on liquids only. They say I can come back in 2 weeks if I need more. I am excited to get that scale moving, because I have been chasing the same 1 lb. for 4 weeks now! I have lost 17 lbs., which is good, but I am ready to lose more! Hope you are doing great! Message me when you can!!

    Shelley : )

  20. Everything went great! I had my surgey on 2/25/09 with no complications. Dr. Veninga's office is great to work with. I had my first fill yesterday and am ready to start losing again. I lost 17 pounds preop/postop, then stalled out for the last 4 weeks. Having the fill should get me back on the road to losing!

    Mixed emotions about first fill!

Hi All! I got my fill yesterday too! All went well. I also got 2 cc! Now I have a total of 3 cc (apparently I already had 1 cc). They tried 3 cc's first, but after doing the Water test (sitting up and drinking water), it was too much and they backed out 1 cc. After that, the water went down fine! My doctor's office has the nurse and the PA do the fills. They are very good and use ultrasound to find the port, mark the spot, then used a cold spray to the skin before inserting the needle. The most uncomfortable part was the PA pushing around trying to find the spot (my port is slightly tilted, thanks to a ripped stitch the 2nd weekd postop). It was uncomfortable, but not painful. The whole thing took less then 10 minutes and went great. I am on liquids for 24 hours, then back to foods gradually. I can definitely feel restriction though...my Protein shake went down slowly this morning! :lurk5: So, being nervous was for nothing!! Good luck to you all and let's keep up with each other!! :hurray::hurray::beer_yum::hurray::biggrin:
  22. Hi Shonia! Just wanted to check in with you. How are you doing? How are you feeling? I got my fill yesterday! Yeah! I am on liquids only for 24 hours, so time will tell how it goes with food. I am excited though and ready to see those scales moving down. Take care and write me when you can!

    Shelley

  23. Hi Laura, me again. Everything okay? You haven't been on in a while. I just wanted to let you know I got my first fill. I have 3cc now. I am on liquids only for 24 hours and then back to foods. So, time will tell how it goes. I am excited. I hope you are doing well and hope to hear from you soon!

    Take care,

    Shelley

  24. Hi Guy! How are you doing? Have you gotten closer to the sweet spot yet? I got my first fill yesterday. I have a total of 3 cc now and definitely feel some restriction. I am still on liquids though, so time will tell. Can't wait to get that scale moving down baby! Let me know how you are doing and maybe I will see you in the chatroom soon!! Take care,

    Shelley

  25. Hey! How ya doing? Are having any problems eating or feeling restriction? I got my fill yesterday. I ended up getting 2 cc and I already had 1 cc, so now I have 3 cc. I am still on liquids for 24 hours, so I am not sure how eating is yet! I am ready to beat that 1 lb that I have been chasing for the last month! Take care!!
