    My Journey So Far...

I was Banded on March 9th, 2009 by Dr. Trace Curry in Cinicnnati, Ohio. I have a Realize band, which currently has 1.5ccs. I started at 229.8 lbs I am currently 199.4 lbs!!!! (April 27, 2009) ONEderland! Woo Hoo!
  4. Hi everyone! I was banded on March 9th, 2009 by Dr. Trace Curry in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have a Realize Band, that currently has 1.5ccs in it. (I went in for my first fill 1 week ago.) I am sooooooooooo excited! I already met my first goal: 1) Weigh less than my hubby! lol... I am actually 14 lbs lighter now! 2) My second goal is to make it to Onederland! I lost about 11 lbs during my pre-op week and have lost another 17 since the surgery. I can't believe how great I feel! I am sleeping better, my blood sugars are now in the normal range (without meds!), I am down one pants size... How is everyone else doing? Blessings, :)Ali

    Pain

It will obviously depend on the meds that your surgeon prescribes for you during and after surgery. I was just banded on March 9th and honestly, the pain was almost non-existent for me in the hours follwing surgery. My medication they gave me in my IV must have been really good...lol Because of this though, I think I overdid it with walking around too much that day. I would recommend taking it really easy the first day. I was pretty sore for the next few days. The worst part is definitely the "gas pains". Not comfortable, but they will subside... Take the meds regularly as they prescibe them and you will be fine! No need to worry...:cursing: If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to msg me. :)Ali

Considering lap band, but I have concerns~

I have been on 1000mg of Metformin (Glucophage) daily. However, since having the surgery, I have dropped down to 500mg per day and will likely be going off of it altogether very soon!

Considering lap band, but I have concerns~

Hello! I just wanted to share that since my last post, I am officially BANDED and have already lost 19.6lbs since starting Medifast one week prior to surgery! I have been doing wonderfully! When I started Medifast on March 2nd, I weighed 229.8lbs. On surgery day, I weighed 218.0lbs. Today, 5 days post-op, I weigh 210.4lbs.! Woo Hoo for the band! I have gone from a BMI of 37.1 on March 2, 2009 to a BMI of 34 on March 14th! Crazy....and wonderful... Nothing is going to hold me back now...not the PCOS...not anything. Tonight was my first time "eating out". I did really well...only eating small bits of the soft foods. But I will tell you, I definitely felt the band doing its' job. When my stomach was full - IT WAS FULL! There are no two ways about it. I COULD NOT take another bite. It seemed crazy, since I had only eaten only a little over 1/2 cup of food!!! Finally, I feel as though my hard work, discipline and perserverance will not be for nothing. Anyway...My prayers to all, that you will be able to find the tools that you are looking for. I am so, so blessed to have been able to be banded...
  9. hope your surgery went well =)

  10. Hi LapLady09! I am also from Ohio and am actually getting my band on 3/9 by Dr. Curry! I finished my nutrition class last week and start my preop diet on 3/2. I am 35 years old and live in Columbus. I am looking to lose about 80 lbs. I would love to be buddies if you are interested...
  11. My surgery is scheduled for March 9, 2009. One minute I am so excited about the upcoming surgery that I can't stand it. The next minute I am wondering if I have really done enough "on my own" to justify having the band. In my heart, I know that I have. Perhaps I wouldn't be questioning it so much if I didn't have to be a "self-pay", but I am so worried about failing again - and this time, putting my family into debt.... Are these normal feelings? I so don't want to be a failure again. I want to be able to work hard, lose weight and ACTUALLY KEEP IT OFF! I want to be able to get off my medications. I want more than anything to be able to play with my kids without being in pain when I get up from the floor. I want to be able to FINALLY not have my weight be the center focus of my daily life. I am just SO AFRAID of failure.....

Considering lap band, but I have concerns~

Hi! I also have a lower BMI, of 36.something and am scheduled to have my lapband surgery on March 9, 2009. I am so EXCITED! I do have some co-morbidities, such as sleep apnea and pre-diabetes (PCOS related). I also have PCOS and started gaining my weight in my 20s. From everything that I have researched, read, and spoke with the surgeon about, the Lapband will help you to lose weight with PCOS. This is because of insulin-resistance being the big contributor to weight-gain in PCOS sufferers. The band will help you to not only control your food portions, but it will also slow down the release of carbohydrates into your system, thus, not allowing your body experience such rushes of glucose into your system. I believe that this surgery is going to HELP me to change my life!
