  1. Hair loss usually happens a few weeks to months after surgery because of the 2 different phases that your hair can be in at any given time. Each phase lasts a certain amount of time and depending on how much hair was in a certain phase DURING surgery determines how much you will lose. Biotin will help with regrowth, but it won't prevent hair loss. This explains it well:

  2. Hey everybody! It sounds like you are all doing so well. I am coming along, slowly but surely, as well, although sometimes a bit frustrated. I hit my -50lb mark (starting from my first consult on 6/8/16) sometime last week, then it went back up. I've hit quite a few stalls. My endocrinologist lowered my thyroid meds about a month after surgery, but I'm wondering if it was too premature. I also had an affair with Goldfish crackers...we finally broke up. I just don't want that kind of relationship, although we may "hook up" from time to time. I'm not really missing them though. I actually feel MORE restriction and less hunger since stopping my Goldfish habit. Interesting, right?! Still, I went from a size 24 to 16/18 pants and 3x to 1x in about 10 months, so that's nice!

It would be great to meet up again soon.

  3. liquids go down a lot easier and quicker than purees or solids. I had my surgery at a Bariatric Center of Excellence where the surgeons are accustomed to doing many surgeries a week. My surgeon/hospital did a leak test during surgery, wiyh air, before vlosing me up, then the next day I had a leak test with an x-ray. I was cleared for liquids, then once I could handle those, they gave me a tray of scrambled eggs (considered puree). I tolerated a few bites of this and went home on purees. This was my post-op diet, but I encourage everyone to follow the guidelines given by their surgeon/hospital/nutritionist. Good luck!

  4. I believe that is correct. I read something on another group about whether the new stomach (sleeve) csn stretch. There was a study (possibly several) in which the examined the sleeves of both successful and unsuccessful people, and there was no significant difference in the size of the sleeves of both groups. They determined that the less successful group had ignored their cues for fullness, whereas the other group was more aware of their fullness cues. This does makes sense, especially since many of us probably ate (or still do eat) past full on a frequent basis.

  5. Sleeved 12-25 went back to work this morning and starting soft food, i had some salmon today but ate too quickly, ended up feeling nauseous and tried to wash it down with Water,,,

    big mistake,,,,,,

It ended up making me feel worse and i threw up the Water. I guess i still need to learn how to eat slowly.

Oh yeah, liquids definitely don't help when food gets stuck. I was sleeved on 12/23/16 and I still forget and eat too fast. Yesterday, I did it agsin wuth a hard-boiled egg. Did you get the "slimies", as I call them (it's gross, but it's a build-up of thick, clear mucus)? Nothing except spitting it up will help. Quite a learning curve!

  6. January 28th seems to be the best day as long as we are not going to get a blizzard or another 8 inches of snow we can meet around 2. Since, we have met the last two times in Suffolk County how about someplace in Nassau Counry this time? If anyone has ideas of places to meet in Nassau let the group know.

I am happy to say that I am 2 pounds away from being under 200 pounds in over 10 yrs. I am so happy I finally decided to do the surgery. I purchased a dress in size 16 for my nieces Baptism this coming Saturday from being a size 22/24. I actually have curves again:)

Look forward to seeing everyone on the 28th and hearing how everyone is doing that recently had the surgery.

    Have a great week!!!!

    Laney

Laney, that's awesome that you are so close to being under 200! I don't even remember the last time I was there! Maybe college...so 20+ years ago. Well done!

  7. Yes, it was great to see you all and catch up. Cool place, Jack. It was also nice to meet another new person (but I feel bad that I don't remember your name...something with a "J", I think). Looking forward to our next meet-up!
