  1. had my revision on the 13th. Lots of swelling and unable to get any fluids in for a couple days. Lots of nausea/vomiting. Ended up having to stay a week in the hospital.supplemental feedings through a picc line. A very depressing time for me. I am having a terrible time trying to get fluids/proteins in. Very weak and tired feeling alot of the time. Trying to get walking in and trying to stay upbeat but it seems like its getting the best of me. I really didn't mind the Unjury shakes before surgery now it's a chore trying to get them down. I feel like Im doing this all wrong.Seeing all the other great posts about how easy getting in the fluids and Proteins by so many others has me frustrated. Wondering why I am having so much trouble? Trying to get back to work but am nervous that I won't be able to get through the day with such little energy and low calorie intake. ok, I'll stop ranting now...

  2. I was sleeved 3/13 and am still in the hospital ( frustrated to say the least)

lots of nausea and small amounts of vomiting. Started Wed as soon as I awoke and went on and on for hours on end. I wasn't able to get up and walk off the gas pains. They did the leak test the next morning and advise me that the top of sleeve is so narrow and is swollen shut ( no Fluid could go in) I would require a longer hospital stay...ugh.. I had the PCA pump for pain. They added two nausea meds to be alternated and also the patch. Had two more leak tests the next two days still with very little passage area for liquids, I was able get minimal Water in today. He started me on nutritional supplements through IV one bag last night and another just finished so I am now on 3rd bag. He wants me to try a shake in the am as it sounds like right now. I just want this swelling to go down so that I can go home!! He keeps extending the amount of days I will have to stay and says that more than likely I will go home with this picc line and have to be set up each night to receive these bags of supplements. possibly for two weeks. I am going crazy here. He is afraid that I will go home and get dehydrated very quickly and end up back in the hospital.. I sure hope no one else has to go through this kind of craziness. I was so full of fluids they had to add a diuretic via iv as well.. Finally feeling mu

  3. Hi, I have the band and I expect to be sleeved after I come back from vacation in June. I am getting the band out because my surgeon says it is not working for me and that I need to try the sleeve instead for a significant weight loss. With all my research on this topic I am not sure why your doc said you would only loose that much when you "should" loose up to half your body weight. At least that is what I am expecting to do at least !! You might want to question him/her as to why so little weight loss for your goal. If you don't ask then you will never know and that is more stress on you that you don't need prior to surgery....

You make a great point. I am hopeful that I can work my butt off to do way better than he is predicting!!

  4. Until the 18th. They made me do a 2 week and my bmi is 35 so I don't understand. I'm worried we are going to my father un laws for a fish fry tomorrow and I love his fish so pray for me because it's going to be HARD!! And plus they don't know about the surgery.

oh no... they don't know? They will be wondering what is going on with you not touching the fish!! That is an awful long time for pre-op it seems with that BMI. It's interesting to see all the variations from one doc to the next. I will certainly be saying a prayer for you!

  5. Reply to questions regarding my revision surgery it was on Feb 11th so I'm just 3 weeks out. I'm on the soft food diet for next 2 wks then start of regular foods on the 18th. I ate 8 oz of Beans today and probably could have eaten another 8 oz without any problems. Don't know what the dr will say about having a correction done however don't think the ins company will pay for another procedure..

I would agree that you probably won't be able to get Insurance to cover and kind of repair/change. Hmm... maybe you will give the Doc a hard time and he will do something for you at no cost... :)

  6. I agree that small goals is the way to go!! Sorry to hear that you had such a problem with the band. I am thankful that I haven't had any problems with mine. Now, if I can survive this liquid diet I just started today..lol.I have done the Protein Shakes and can be full with them, it's more of head thing. I just "think" I need solid food. Any of you have any good tips on how you got through this pre-op time or didn't you have to do it? I see there are so many variations of pre- op diets and what length and what they include.

  7. It has taken me forever to learn to post a reply on here!!! I still don't think ive got it right! Just wanted to apologize if any of my replies sound confusing because they are in the wrong spot! :-0

That being said, i start my pre-op diet tomorrow & surgery is scheduled for 3/13. Im getting nervous. I know i'll feel better once its over & ive got a week or two under my belt.

Best wishes to everyone getting sleeved tomorrow! :)

I too am the 13th and start liquid diet on Thursday..hoping these 6 days go fast. Seems I am more concerned about doing this liquid stuff than I am the actual surgery.

  8. AdvancedMom - My revision surgery took 3 hrs I had a realize band placed in 2009 never worked for me. I would recommend the 2 step procedure - first have the band removed then wait until the stomach has a chance to get it's shape back so that the vertical sleeve can be done correctly. At my 10 day follow up my stomach is so mis- shapen it doesn't even look like I had gastric sleeve surgery - it's shape like an hour glass. I can drink 14 oz of liquid in one setting and have stomach pangs. The dr left too much stomach because he eyeballed the amount he took off due to the shape of the stomach. I am not happy about this whole issue I need to lose 100lbs. I go back to dr on the 23rd and will ask him to correct his mess - don't know how that will go over.

oh no! when did you have your sleeve done? Sounds very frustrating what you are going through. Hopefully you can get some answers at your appt. Do you think there is something they can do to fix this?

  9. I have put great thought into this surgery. I do think I have a good attitude about the whole process. I have maintained the amount I have lost with lapband and will be very pleased with whatever I can do with the sleeve. I plan to work as hard as I can to achieve a healthy weight for myself.. I don't feel pressured to set an exact weight that I want to be. I was just putting some numbers out there.

  10. I am definitely happy to be doing this all in one procedure.! Wondering why he thinks so long for my revision? Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised to find out it didn't take that long after all.

How much did you all lose with lapband? I had right around 50 but am hoping for much more success with sleeve :)

I just want to be a healthy weight and get rid of some of the co-morbidities and get off cpap and many of the meds!!

  11. Hi all, Im scheduled for revision on 3/13/13. Met with surgeon to sign consents last week. I currently weigh 256 and although I don't know what to set as an exact goal weight, I am thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 140-150. The Dr gave me this sheet of paper with my starting weight and a weight of 183.5 as a weight that I will "probably" end up at. I would think that he would expect me to lose more than that. I sure do. Not so sure I want to go through all of this and only lose that much. I know that the ultimate amount that I lose will be up to me.. guess I just needed to vent a bit..lol

In the other part of my question is for those of you who have had lapband removal and VSG (in one procedure). How long were you in surgery? My doc was telling me between 4-5 hours. How many days did you spend in the hospital?

  12. Hi Guys,

I am so struggling today. I am in day three of the pre-op liquid diet and it is getting to me. Someone said it gets better after day 3, but I am truly struggling today. I am on my fourth Protein Shake and it seems nothing is helping. Other than the shakes I have had some Jello and a popsicle. I hope I can make it another 11 days. It is scaring me now. I try to keep busy and not think about it, but on a gloomy Saturday it is not an easy feat. How do others do it?

I think I more worried about doing the pre-op diet than I am the actual surgery. I only have to do it for 6 days. You were doing good with them for the first couple days.. stick with it, you know you can do it!! Try to keep yourself focused. I am sure it makes for a long day!

  13. peacockmom, I too am having some of the same thoughts/fears. Although we realize we are doing this for all the right reasons, we still have to think about "things" with regards to our families, especially our kiddos. I am a single mother and worry alot about my three daughters and the what-if's. Great idea coming on here for support. We can all help each other.

  14. ok, so I don't know what the heck I am doing right now. Have been eating poorly for the past several days and can't seem to kick it and get back on track. Just got my approval and surgery date last Monday(3/13) and since then it feels like I am slacking off on keeping up with the losing. Getting frustrated with myself. I know I have to see the surgeon on the 26th for consent signing and know he is going to expect to see more of a loss... Gotta get my head back in the game.... gosh, I think I need to kick my own *ass! lol
