  1. Having it deflated doesn't matter. Inflamation isn't determined just by that. Either trust the surgeon or get a new one. You are sending the message you know better than they do. The fact its there at all had caused years of Chronic inflamation. Its a foreign body- its stable leave it alone. The mere fact they remove Fluid and allow it to have freedom' date=' rub up and down inside the band can be as bad or infact worse. Try to be respectful of the surgens education and expertise, try not to express your "googLe MD" learned/common sense . They have a lot more experience than you with such things- if you feel your right-- change offices. You will burn bridges and be the difficult patient stuck with a band no one wants to touch. Mine was broken, deflated less than a week. One step has a lot to do with chronicity/ compliance/thickening/internal room/ size of pt/length of time banded/liver size......... more factors than space here. Good luck to you.[/quote']

Thanks sleeve convert. Hearing that makes sense. I wish they would have explained that way instead of just saying no. I did email back last night after they said it would be 2 surgeries for sure and that they won't remove the saline and said I understand. I trust him, but its probably not coming off as though I do. =/

I have my pre op weigh in this morning. I will be suee to let them know that. =)

    Thanks!

  2. I emailed the doc office and said I wanted it unfilled in hopes of it lessoning the swealing and strengthen my chances of band to sleeve revision in one but they emailed me and said no go. They won't remove the Fluid and he won't do it in one surgery. Its okay, I'm okay with 2 but honestly its a little frustrating knowing there are docs that do it one. That's just because I'm impatient and I want this all over with. But now that I know its definitely 2 surgeries I will just get over it and exhibit patience. :+)

So the 4 week pre op diet starts tomorrow. Gahhh!!

  3. Was your band deflated pre op? I keep asking to have my band deflated and they keep saying its not necessary. But doc says if my stomach isn't too inflamed during the band removal he will sleeve me but, to date he has not had a case where the stomach wasn't too inflamed, so to date he's always done in two steps. I'm no doc but I feel like if I'm deflated the stomach may be less inflamed at surgery? But at the same time my 4 week pre op liquid diet will be easier to handle if not deflated. So, were u done in 1 step ? If so, were u deflated or not?

  4. Hey kara, I quit using gum because to me helped with oral fixation. I also had coffee stir straws and would chew them. The most morbib thing I did while quitting was this. Every time I felt like smoking I would Invision my self sitting in chemo. I know its no its morbid but that's ultimately what it will turn into if you don't stop. I thought "do I want to suffer thru this craving which will over in 15 mins....or do I want to suffer trough chemo". Hope that helps and good luck to u.

  5. So I had my first appointment with Weight Loss Institute of AZ today. It took about 3 hours.. met with the financial lady first who told me the procedure would cost about 9000.00 that would depend on how much the facility charges. I asked if there was an outpatient option and she spoke with the Surgeon who agreed to do my surgery outpatient which means I have to come up with 6' date='000.00 it's a little sad that this is the amount I have to pay using my Cigna insurance considering I work for Cigna :( Anyway I will have to deal with that by withdrawing from my 401k and maybe having a bake sale hee hee!

I am a little confused now though because my surgeon started giving me information on the lapband just so I knew there were other options. My husband was there with me and now asks that I just weigh my option between the two.

Does anybody have any advise for me regarding the lapband vs the sleeve? I knew going into this process that the sleeve is what I wanted, but now I am second guessing.. thoughts?

    Thanks everybody!! :)[/quote']

Hi there's. I was banded in 08 and lost about 90 pounds then regained 40.. You can have some success but there are complications with the band. It can embed into our stomach or slip. I know someone with the band whose stomach is so damaged, she can't convert to the sleeve. I am in the process of converting to sleeve. Do a lot of research before you choose and choose what you think is right for you. I wish I would have known about the sleeve in 08. Weight loss is slow with the band. Took me about 2.5 yrs to lose that weight , I hear its much faster with the sleeve. Goof luck.

  6. Congratulations. I was approved for the band to sleeve revision two weeks ago and I have the same fear. I hear that weight loss can be slower for those of us with the band but I think it depends on the person and their level of commitment. You lacked success with the band because it sounds like you never really felt restriction. That will be different with the sleeve. Are you having the revision in 1 or 2 surgeries? Good luck!
