Total failure - no weight loss

Oh Girl, WHOOT WHOOT!!!! I know it can be hard sometimes, but it is so worth it. The band is great, but it is different for everyone. Mine tends to change with the weather, many here said it wasn't possible. Finally today at least two others said they have the same issue. Many find themselves starving in the the beginning, hunger has not been a problem for me. I am the oppisite; I don't get hungry. So I don't eat enough to lose, on Fri. I had some wonton bites and about 6 french fries (at 7 pm), and 3 cups of coffee. When I started this I worked hard to give up sweet tea and eat smaller portions, before the surgery. I was able to lose 9lbs from Nov to Mar. Then I stopped following my own rules. I am getting the wrong stuff in liquid form (coffee) really it's the dang creamers that I love. Size 12 is great, but a 10 is so much better. I am so glad that you made someone listen to you, you know you so go with what works for you. Don't give up the fight, when you drop that first size it all comes together in your head.

Why Do Things Keep Changing? (Long)

Thanks for the back up, others had said it was in my head. I must take controll and just go on auto pilot like I was when I decided to do this. I ate when I should and what I should. Back to a protein shake for breakfast, no skipping lunch and goodbye to the sweet tea and coffee, It's hard for people to understand that I am not hungry when I don't eat. My only meal today was 6 mini wontons and 5 french fries. I think I've had 2 glasses of water, 3 cups of coffee and a hot mocha. I really want to get under 170 and I will feel like I did something important. Exercise has not been part of this because I just don't stick with it. But now the "batwings" and cottage cheese on my thighs say I have to make a change in that area. I start tomorrow and I will keep you posted.
  3. I got my band March 09, no problems; lost about 63 lbs. and the party was over. I am happy with being a 12/14. I had an issue in Jul of 2010, got to a point that nothing would go down, every meal became a nightmare...didn't mattter unless it was liquid, if it was chewed I was in trouble. DH made me see the doc and he did a small unfill. This was crazy to me since my last fill had been in Oct. Of course I didn't get the refill soon enough and I gained some weight. Got another fill in Oct. (again) and things were fine, I got the extra pounds off and life was good again. Made it through the holidays OK just not great. Then it got cold here, and I started to be tight in the mornings, I would have sips of hot tea just to take my morning meds. Spring come and things went back to normal. When I can eat, I can do bread, steak whatever. I seldom am hungry....this is a big problem. Doc saw no need to take any out, just told me I had to eat. I realize that to drop weight I must eat enough to make my metabolizim work. Summer hits and I am getting stuck again, some say that temps can't do anything to the band and that it must be barartic pressure. But I had learned from the last time and knew when and how to eat. I recently had a cold, didn't want food and lost 4 or 5 lbs. Again the weather is doing strange things, 28- 60 temps in the same week. Snow, rain, wind and sunshine and yup, I can't eat! In the whole journey I have be able to eat something for lunch that won't go down for dinnner or eat it on Mon. and one bite on Wed. and it's stuck. This makes me nuts! There are foods like tuna or chicken salad that I can't even bring myself to make because I just don't want it. Foods that I have enjoyed early in the process don't appeal to me. The doc just tells me I need to eat the right foods at the right time. I can't do 3 small meals and snacks, I can't even do the protein drinks. All I seem to really want is coffee, this might be my problem but I am just over the whole thing. My weight is holding between 173 and 179 so I'm not totaly unhappy, just really confused.
  4. Make sure you have eaten, it will hit you hard and it won't take much at all!

    Stool Problem

Start the day with ice water and lots during the day ALSO, Greek Yogurt seems to really get me going. I am like you in the subhuman logs, husband taped my name on the plunger.
  6. This is not to slam anyone, but I really would like some input. I read here so many that say the band doesn't work, or that 20,30,or 40lbs have come off and now nothing. I realize that many of you have had problems with slippage or some other medial issue, so I'm not thinking of you, I have been reflecting and I'm finding some greal gray areas for myself. I started to make my food changes the day of my seminar, I cut out sweet tea, sodas, starting taking smaller portions , no drink with food and soon started to feel bertter. And I was working hard to drink my Water. I choose the band because the bypass scared me, and I didn't like the look of those who had it. I followed my own changes from Nov. until my 2 week pre op diet.in Feb. I was down 18lbs on that day. I was good about following the instructions and the weight keep coming off. I didn't exercise much, just watched what I ate. When I finally lost 63 lbs. and was in a size 12....I lost my mind. I got lazy and stopped following the rules. I lost my commitment to the program. I stopped loosing . Even knowing this I can't get on track. I say these things because I don't think we are all as commited as we once were, we are not as honest with ourselves as we need to be. For me candy keeps wandering into my home, coffee creams are the devils inventtion and sugar has rentered through a back door. Still knowing this, I can't seem to shake things back in the right places. I started this journey because I didn't want to be on a diet for life, and I don't feel I am. One of my problems is that even though I don't have ture restriction, I don't have a problem with hunger, I thought if I wasn't hungry I shouldn't eat...very wrong. I am stumped about how to fix where I am, I need to loose anthore 30-35lbs to be in the guidelines. I would like to loose about 15 to feel like I had a true result for my effor. I don't think doc will do a fill since I'm not hungry. I try to eat meat & veggies but it is usually only once a day. Yogurt and Protein drinks to try to get the protein in. My life schedule is strange and gym time never seems to come. So, is it not working or am I doning something wrong.

    Waking up THIN!!!

I understand where you're coming from, but it is a little harsh. Some of these statements get to me also, while I am THRILLED about what I have lost, I really wanted it to be more. For many, the pre-op diet takes off 20 + pounds and even with education and research, they still can't help but expect more from the band. I lost without much work and know that if I put in more effort the real goal would be met. However, few people are really able to accept their responsiblity in having gained the weight and in having to make the right choices to loose the weight, The mental is a big part of this, that's why we have to do the evals and for some surpervised weight loss before surgery. This is the place to vent, be scared, ask for help and yes sometimes just whine. Only those on the path can really understand what we have to deal with daily. Let's just try to pump em up, or just not finish reading the posts that make your skin crawl.

    can't keep warm

Congrats on the weight loss! After 50lbs, the only time I was warm was during a hot flash. I always have a light jacket in the car and usually am the only one in the house that thinks the AC needs to be turned off. Iron levels could be low, so you might get told to up the intake.
  9. Glad you found joy, all I got was major pain from a hard boiled egg. Never thought about being happy.

    Truth or myth...

I do very much so. I am one who forgets to eat and usually get in enough cals. at these times my weight just sits there. I vowed to eat and get in protein this past weekend and loss 1.5 lbs. I don't work out, when I did the inches came off reall well. I am heading to gym tomorrow and hope that the weight will move off better. Good luck..Be sure to look at your measurements.

crazy wild sex with band ??

I am almost your opposite. I rarely am hungry, and I don't eat like I should (working on that now). You didn't mention how much Water you get in, this might help with a fuller feeling. I don't put much in the head hunger.

    Band and worried!

What is listed is true. Stay foucsed on the rules, eat the right amounts on time and the hunger will get better. Lots of water really helps.
  13. This is unusal, my doc recently told me the band doesn't loosen after you have lost the fat that was under the band. Maybe you have replaced that with muscle as you work to tighten up. If you are able to get lunch and dinner in I don't think I would worry. Maybe the coffee can be replaced with tea, no creamers and it's more "water like". Also, maybe yogurt in the AM for the protein. If you can"t eat lunch, at least call the doc. Good luck.

    treated bad.....

WOW!!!!! If I only had to walk across the street I would have been mad. There is never a reason for someone to be treated that way. I couldn't have left without speaking to her boss about the incident. I think that many of the band folks have medical issues that can cause problems with weight loss, and it is usually the reason they need the band. I take BP meds that make me bloat, my anit cancer stuff makes me retain Fluid, have hot flashes and jacks up my sleep. The Zoloft takes my appitiet. It is crazy with trying to remember what to take before or after eating to be able to let the band work right. As a medical person she should have known that. I am very sorry you had this experience, many folks don't get restiction until they are at 6+ so what is she talking about? I recently got to 5.5 and only have restriction on some foods on some days. Yeterday I couldn't eat fish, but today I could. She needs to be better supervised!

    Feeling Down

I am very sorry that you weren't able to follow through on your plans, but it's OK. You should never do anything you aren't ready for. First I will tell you that you will NOT strave; yes there may be times that you are hungry but there are ways to deal with it. Your mouth isn't being sewn shut, so you will be able to eat, you might not eat everything you want to but you will still be able to enjoy food. I am very lucky, I can eat most everything I always have. The weight I have lost was in the early part of my journey when my committment was highest and I followed the rules and made the best choices. Right now I am making some adjustments to my eating habits to hopefully start things going again. Almost a four hour wait is hard on the mind when you are faced with the unknown :( . Don't worry the opportunity is still out there, if you want it. For me, things have been easy. As of last month I have 5.5cc in a 10cc band. I don't think I have restriction as I think most people mean it. I do get full from a lot less food than 3 yrs ago. Other people have had problems and we each are different so you can't determine what will happen with you based on someone else. I get stuck if I eat to quickly, if I overeat...meaning I ignored the sign that I was full. I get very uncomfortable or have a PB issue,. I would do this again without hesitation! It has changed my life so much, I did this for my health but my self esteem JUMPED :Banane54: I bought a dress in DEB and I never could go in there before. I don't mind going out, I don't run from cameras and my health is imporved,. I still need to drop about 30lbs to meet the suggested weight. I will be very happy to get off another 15 or so. Don't feel bad about your decision, all of this has to be for you and about you. Hope I've helped and good luck.
  16. petuniap, thanks so much! This is one of the reasons I started this topic. I knew someone would reply with the information needed as you have. The other was because so many people b*tch about the band that it doesn't work. I know it does and I know that I wasn't doing what I needed to. My biggest problem, believe it or not is that I'm seldom hungry; so I don't eat and I'm not getting in enough calories. I need to really focus on getting food in. Wrong foods don't interest me (other than those dang creamers). Yesterday I only had about 900 cals and 50 g of Protein. This is about what I usually have, since I didn't track food at the start I'm not in the habit. I simply made an effort to eat the right food at the right times and I didn't have to think about it. I am often angered by what gets posted by those who aren't finding the success they had hoped for. My life is about taking responsibility for the things I do. I want everyone who has taken on the expense and challenge of the band to succeed. Hopefully, this will help.

    Getting Really Depressed

Don't get to overheated about this, not yet. I got my band on 3/9/09, and I have just found some restriction last month. I am stalled now for a lot of reasons, my big ones are: not enough Water, don't eat regularly..some days only once, to much coffee with creamer and a real bad addiction to all things chocolate. My early loss was really easy, I thought. But the real answere is that I stuck to the plan very closely. I got so happy over the loss that I got lazy and careless. I'm not saying that is the case for you. You might need to find some NSV to get past this. How are your measurements? With you working out the inches must be coming off and the clothes getting looser on you. How do you feel, at the very least you must be feeling better, looking better, clearer skin. It's there, just look for it in the mirror. Each doc gives different instructions and has different views. Start getting that water in, it will help. Track your food intake, I was told 65g of protein; no calorie guide that I remember just the 4oz per meal. Just check to see how close you are to the guidelines you were given.
  18. Pink, I have had maybe 5 fills (5.5cc); didn't really keep track. I can eat most everything, I now have the most restriction after the last fill about 4 weeks ago. Popcorn, pancakes, chicken, beef & rice no problems. I however can't eat "reheated chinese". I had some sweet sour left over and one bite major action. I was in pain for almost an hour. I also can eat something for lunch that I can't eat for dinner or eat it fine on Tues. but Sat no go. It is not only different for everyone, but for me different meal to meal

Discomfort Daily - not sure where to post

I would guess that you have had a follow up, if you did was this discussed? If not yet, you should see the doc soon. In the meantime try sipping hot tea in the A.M. I am tight in the morning and if I don't do this I have the feeling most of the day. Does doc still have you on liquids or that's all you can handle. If the later is the case you really need to contact the doc. Good Luck.

SF Fudgecicles okay during liquid diet?

I am never without them in my frig! My chocolate fix, it keeps that nasty candy out of my house.
  21. This body fits in a regular bathtub! :bananajump:
  22. If I don't stop my drinking at least 45 min. before a meal I can't get very much food in before I am full. I don't drink with the meal, and I don't restirct myself after. Usually, it is dinner and I want coffee after . I use a straw with my Water, it keeps me from glupping it down. That has given me a few bad moments; it caused a bubble that had killer pain. I might be the only person who gets "stuck" on water. My current lack of weight loss is due mostly to the fact that I don't eat as I should. Most days it's one or two meals if I remember. I don't get hungry very often which is funny since I don't have much restriction. If I have to much on the plate it just dissappears
  23. YngGram

    Had my first fill

It is because liquids go straight through, and really if it's clear there isn't much protein (IMO). I have 24 hrs. of liquids and your doc might change it for your next fill since this was your first.
  24. In my area Golden Corral do it as a Medical Discount and it is not that great, only about $2 off. The truck stop we go to do it as child's meal about $4! Other places I just order the kid meal, no questions yet. I used it when I was in Vegas and it was great. The only thing on most appitizer menus is chicken tenders that I can eat...so I get many boxes in the frig also
