I'm not sure why there is so much negativity directed toward K-statearmywife. Her initial post was quite brief and respectful. She was asked to educate and did so. At that point, the sarcastic and, in my opinion, very rude, comments began. This is not about the PC police or zealots. It is about the reality that we live in a world where there are NOT only males and females. Basic biology makes this clear. No one has to like it, but it is a fact.
And while folks are being authentic and saying what they want this year, I wonder how they will respond if others do the same and make degrading comments about obese folks.

Wow, Go Kart! That is really exciting. I am happy for you. He is lucky -- you seem like a nice guy and you are super cute.
Anyway, I am gay! I live in Mt. Rainier, MD in the DC area.
I will be self-pay and am having a lap band to sleeve revision with Dr. Almanza in Tijuana, Mexico on July 9. I can hardly wait! I counted today and it is eight weeks away.

shangefan got a reaction from PDB41017 in Reasons I'm Thankful for my Band (add yours)
I've lost 55 pounds in nine months. Some have done more, but I never could have accomplished this without the band.
My health is much better. Decreased meds, no more achy knees, no longer worry that I am going to have a heart attack.
I am now comfortable tucking in a shirt -- and think I look good when I do it.
No more "Big and Tall" section. Yippee!
Waist size under 40. I mean, it is 38 and I want to lose another four inches, but I haven't seen anything under 40 in a decade.
Compliments -- from family and friends. And they don't just say I look thinner; they say I seem to have a new glow.
No problem walking anytime and I can actually run up the stairs now.
I like me, I really like me. (with apologies to Sally Fields)

Finances will definitely factor into your decision making, but just know that wearing clothes that are too large will make you look bigger than you are. If that is a concern, I would recommend looking for a few inexpensive items that you don't mind wearing for only a few weeks. I have started buying clothes at Target, which is something I never would have even considered before. Crazy thing is, they look good, so I might even continue to do it once I reach goal.

shangefan got a reaction from Getting Wispy in Why do people react poorly when we say we are having WLS?
Interesting thread. I think all of the reasons are true. I am fortunate that my family is very supportive. They were totally with me during the lapband surgery and everything that followed. Now that I am doing the revision to the sleeve, I am undecided about telling them. I think I want to wait until I have some success.
I have several friends who have had WLS -- although most have had gastric bypass -- and they are supportive. What they ARE NOT supportive of is my decision to have the surgery done in Mexico. But I am clear that I have made an informed choice and a decision that is right for me. So I am moving ahead. I actually plan to go alone because I dropped the subject after folks reacted badly.
I also have people in my life who are obsessed with the gym and bodies. I have no intention to mention the surgery to them, even though I am sure they will start to ask questions when I start losing weight.

What have you been eating? Just a few days after surgery, your stomach will be extremely sensitive. In fact, it is not at all healed, so you need to be extremely careful that you don't injure yourself. When you say that you aren't tolerating things, I hope you don't mean that you are vomiting. That is not good at this point.
Did your doctor give you a post-surgery diet? Please follow it precisely. I am about a year out, but I think you should still be on full liquids.< /p>
To answer your question: over time you will be able to eat more and more foods, though there likely will be some that you do not tolerate and some that you no longer like. For some reason, I cannot handle eggs now and pork is difficult for me to digest. I also get very ill if I consume much sugar. But overall, most things I can have.
Hang in there and take it easy. Don't rush things. The time will pass sooner than you expect.

Unfortunately, yes my feet got smaller. So now I have some shoes I love that just slip right off my feet. I went from wearing an 8 - 8.5 to wearing a 7.5 - 8. Mostly my foot is narrower, but smaller all around too.

MFP is great for tracking calories and Protein and even carbs if you do that.....but you cannot pay attention to the amount of protein it recommends or the 'you're eating too little' stuff. It THINKS it is dealing with normal folks, not ones who've had WLS. It tells me I need 45 grams of protein. I enter it all manually. I am three years out and need 1300 calories to maintain. When I was where you are, I was getting about 400 calories, give or take 50. I never went into starvation mode, I had my doctor's OK. I felt good, labs were good and I lost weight, I never tried to "HANG ONTO" the pounds! I didn't get my 1300 in yesterday, just under 1100 and I got the same message you did. You're fine, when I reached goal, I was getting 650 - 800 per day - if in doubt, talk to the doctor! Good luck!

Obviously, men's clothes don't come sized that way, but I can honestl say that vanity is a huge motivator for me. Clearly, I want to be healthy. Yet, I am not at all ambivalent about saying that I want to feel like I look good. I want to not be the fat guy. And yeah, I love clothes (always have) and want to again wear tailored suits and have them look good. In addition, as I told a friend, I am gonna wear fitted, slim and skinny everything, so look out!

OK, this is always a controversial topic, so I am going to say this as gingerly as possible. You definitely should make the decision that is best for you, but it would be helpful if you did not make disparaging remarks about the doctors whom you do not prefer. I and several other people have used one or the other of the doctors whom you subtly critique. Beyond that, most of us are happy with our experience. I find your comments a bit obnoxious.
That said, good luck with making your decision.

Thank you so much for asking. I am looking at later this month because of my schedule. I am really anxious. I don't know if it is my imagination, but it seems like lately I am experiencing more of the difficulties that come with obesity. I am trying to determine if this is real or if it is just because I am eager to move forward with the surgery.
I would love to know how you are doing now.

Greetings all! Congrats to all those who have been recently sleeved and whoopee for the success of others. i was sleeved in July. I have lost about 80 pounds. My life is totally different and feels like my own again. I love the way that I look and feel. I am doing well physically. I had a very easy surgery, but regardless, it will be worthwhile. Trust me!

I actually never thought about surgery in Mexico until I started reading about it on this forum. Then I realized it makes perfect sense. I am a former journalist, so I knew that Medical Tourism is big; I just had never thought of partaking in it.

Like lots of folks, I had barrells of clothes from over the years. In fact, I had lots of shirts and slacks with the tags still on. It has been great to get back into those clothes. The big challenge for me has been suits. I just didn't have any smaller ones and my experience has been that it is impossible to tailor them well. I tried that years ago and never liked the way the suits fit afterward. So I have bought a few suits at Burlington, which has good designers but maybe a couple of seasons old. I looked at suits yesterday at Jos A. Banks, which is having a 70 percent off sale (although I am confused that they always seem to have a big sale), but I don't know if I want to buy a suit because I don't want to have a lot of stuff that will get to be too big quickly.
BUT...regarding the stuff that I already had, that stuff is getting to be too big.

I bought black speedos. And they fit.
The tubs of rubber mares stored under my bed came out. These mainly contained clothes from when I was a large shirt size and 36-38 pant size. It happens to be winter so I pulled out the smaller sweaters also. All "big and tall" clothes are going to value village.
