OctoberSky reacted to SleeveToBypass2023 in only 4 weeks out and been on solid foods for 3 weeks
Holy crap. Ok, so a few things. First, just because you CAN eat these foods, doesn't mean you SHOULD. You're not even close to healed. You still have numbness from nerves being cut. You could be doing damage you can't even feel yet. There's a reason we're supposed to increase our eating in stages.
Second, the amount you eat is more of a head thing than a physical thing. You cannot fit the same amount of food into your new stomach that you used to, and you shouldn't be trying to. Your pouch is only so big, and you have to remember that and start working on your head hunger and your relationship with food.
Third, talk to your nutritionist about how you're eating and how to get back on track with your Bariatric Eating plan, because if you aren't compliant now, you'll never be able to be later on. In no way should you have been eating actual, solid foods 1 week after surgery. So before you do damage that has to be surgically fixed, reach out to a bariatric therapist to help you with your relationship with food and learning the difference between real hunger and head hunger, and your nutritionist to figure out how to map out an actual way to get on track and a realistic meal plan. You might also want to talk to a nurse practitioner about what possible damage you might have done and if there's a way to kind of fix it before it gets to a surgical level.

OctoberSky got a reaction from Tomo in only 4 weeks out and been on solid foods for 3 weeks
I had surgery on November 1st and no way able to eat what you describe. First 3 weeks was still liquids, broth, Jello, Water, tea and Protein Shakes. Now I have been given the window to do scrambled eggs, mashed veggies and soft canned fish/chicken as of last Thursday. I am lucky if I can consume 2 tbs of food in each sitting. SO, I have stuck with the hospital schedule and doing every 15-30 minutes, 2-3 tbs of food. Then sipping water all day long or tea. Again, unsure how your able to do so, so quickly. But each body is different.

OctoberSky reacted to Theia103121 in Time it took for Medicaid approval
Good to know- I'm in Oregon and I'm on Medicaid. The big thing I have been told that has to be done is six months of a medically supervised diet where I either lose or don't gain (the surgeon requires weight loss).

I'm still pre-op, finished everything required. So now playing the waiting game on insurance approving. So frustrating.

OctoberSky reacted to Sunnyway in Cabbage soup?
Here's the Weight Loss Magic Soup I've been making. It's delicious, filling, and has only 57 calories per cup:
32 oz chicken stock
3 cups V-8 juice (you can use low-sodium V8 or even Tomato juice, homemade or store bought)
2 cans Italian diced tomatoes
1 small onion
2 cloves minced garlic
1 package sliced mushrooms
3 carrots, peeled and sliced
1 zucchini, diced
1 yellow squash, diced
2 cups fresh or frozen green beans
1 can kidney Beans, drained and rinsed
3-4 cups shredded cabbage
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and Pepper, to taste
In a large frying pan sprayed with cooking spray, sauté garlic, onions, carrots, and mushrooms for about 5 minutes.
In a large crockpot, combine sautéed garlic and vegetables with the remaining ingredients. Cook on high for 2-3 hours, or until vegetables are cooked. (I have made this in a large stock pot on the stove instead of in a crock pot.)
This makes a large batch of Soup. If you would like to freeze portions of it to use later, undercook the vegetables just a little. Pour the soup into freezer Ziplock bags and let as much air out as you can. Lay the bags flat on a cookie sheet and freeze. Once the soup is frozen flat, it is easy to layer in your freezer and won't take up much room. To thaw, place the bag in the fridge for 24 hours and then reheat.

Absolutely, you can mix up the veggies to your own taste and with what is abundant. For example, I like canned "fire roasted" diced tomatoes or even fresh cherry or grape tomatoes. Two cups of this Soup is only 114 calories and very filling for even dinner.

OctoberSky got a reaction from YaniB in They cancelled my 8/15 surgery, after I expressed my concerns!
So sorry, that this is how you've been treated. I am completely shocked at even having to read such a thing! I mean who does that!?! Seriously appalling! You btw, have done nothing wrong and your concerns were and still are validated. As many have stated you dodged a bad situation, I believe that too! Better things are to come honey...so calmly breath.

Thank you all for your mind words, and yes, I did dodge a bullet - it just took me a few days to see it. Tuesday the nurse called me and told me she was keeping me off the schedule as a final decision. I was so despondent. I kept logging into my patient portal, where I could still see my procedure scheduled, and hoping perhaps this was some last bluff on their part. But it's definitely been cancelled.
I couldn't go to work yesterday as I was sobbing most of the day. I went into see my primary care doctor, thinking the visit was to get some help for my anxiety, but she encouraged me to not let this crazy experience deter me.
I have a consult with another sugeon on 8/23. I will NOT give up hope! Thank you all. I now know this is a blessing in the end!

OctoberSky reacted to SnowyWinter in They cancelled my 8/15 surgery, after I expressed my concerns!
So I posted on Saturday about how I was having second thoughts, not about having weight loss surgery, but about whether I was in good hands with my current provider, after they have literally cancelled and rescheduled every single appointment, including my surgery date, which I've ever had with them. Several of you replied validating my concerns, which I so appreciate. Speaking up about my concerns caused my surgery to be cancelled! Can you even believe it?!?! I'm calming down now but I literally had a full blown panic attack at work. I was hysterically sobbing. I'm on a liquid diet, have been off my anti inflammatory meds for 6 days, cancelled my vacation I'd planned since last November after they rescheduled my surgery from July, and now this? I would never have seen this coming, even after all the prior chaos.
After expressing concerns about things up to this point I was told, among other things, that I am "rehashing" the past and that because of this they do not feel I will comply with post op care, because these same scheduling issues will probably continue to occur post op to. So since I expressed these concerns, despite this being my entire point that I wanted to be sure I was in good hands post op so that I could get the proper post op care, they have determined that I won't comply with post op care? I am attaching my reply back to them from the patient portal.
The nurse did say she MAY be able to meet with the team and get my surgery date reinstated however. What a day! What a joke!

OctoberSky reacted to lp1266 in September
Hello everyone!
I have officially received my surgery date for end of September. Im feeling excited, nervous, but most of all happy for a fresh start. I can’t believe how fast time goes by from that first appointment. With my insurance the process takes 6 months and I am already half way through!
I found out recently I had gallstones and my surgeon recommended to get my gallbladder removed. The surgery is scheduled for next month for that. I’m a tad nervous about that as well but overall very optimistic.
I’m using my time to mentally prepare myself for the change as well as be educated as much as I can about my new to be lifestyle :)
Hope you are all doing well!
Any September buddies ?!

In my case, I have a med manager who is against weight loss surgery for ANYONE. She really messed things up, causing me stress and a significant delay.
