L12 got a reaction from Jim1967 in who here has been banded for at least 2 years and has had NO complications?
I haven't posted in...I don't know how long! No real problems for me, and I haven't even needed a fill for about 18 months. The only complication I've had was pretty much self inflicted - I got too dehydrated, drank too little, exercised too much in really hot weather. If I'm not diligent about staying hydrated, my band seems to shrink right up, and in that case I got to the point of being unable to even keep Water down. That resulted in fluids and a slight unfill at the ER. I learned my lesson, and it hasn't happened again.
I did experience the stomach flu about six months ago - that was the first and only time my body has tried to actually vomit since being banded. It was MUCH different than upchucking due to being stuck, and was even more uncomfortable! Thankfully it didn't cause any problems with my band, so I'm still maintaining and very comfortable.
I am 4 1/2 years out, and am really happy. I don't know what the future holds for my band and I, but I am very grateful for the good health, normalcy, and experiences I would not have had without the surgery. It gave me a second chance, and I will enjoy and appreciate it for as long as it lasts.

L12 got a reaction from dawalsh in Do people treat you differently?
95% of the time I am treated MUCH better... x1000 The 5% is from overweight/obese people . One heavier coworker was pretty unfriendly until I mentioned that I had the band and had lost a lot of weight. She warmed up immediately, and told me that she thought "Great, a skinny b**** in the office" when I started. And there have been other similar comments. It saddens me, as being thin, then heavy, now thin again and the differences in how I've been treated between those changes has really taught me to appreciate who people are, not what they look like - that's how I want to be treated. Though I know from experience that they are accustomed to being judged, I wish it wasn't assumed that I was doing so.

Beans are great! I try to go the vegetarian route as much as I can in an uncooperative household, so I eat different kinds of beans often. Very filling, very nutritious! I have fallen in love with hummus; I suppose that could be considered a slider, but the raw veggies I dip in it are not, so it works out.

    Yes. Dramatically so.
When I was over 200 pounds heavier, I was pretty much treated like a Leper. I'd get openly mocked in grocery stores, looked at with disdain in restaurants, and pretty much shunned by store clerks. I can't tell you how many times I was ignored when trying to get sales help.
Now, I can go into the same stores and restaurants and be treated like royalty. Sales people trip over themselves to help me (even when I don't need it). Men who would've likely let a door close in my face before now hit on me.
...and this all seriously pisses me off. I'm the same person, with the same personality, and the same worth as I was when I was 200 pounds heavier. The only difference is now my packaging is a bit different.
Fat discrimination is alive and well, trust me.

L12 got a reaction from Kiskis in Now done, do I reduce the fill?
I've been trying to reach the perfect fill level for maintenance too, and have had a few fills and unfills. I've been going up and down in my fill level for the last few months, getting too tight and too loose for comfort. I'm about to go in for another tiny (0.1) fill on Wednesday to see if I can get it right. I'm SO close...!

L12 got a reaction from Skinny_Jill in breast size b4 and after weight loss surgery
Cup size is determined by the difference between the measurement just under your breasts, and around the fullest part of your breasts. You have lose a lot of weight, but if your cup size is the same then likely you have lost inches proportionally from both of those measurements.

L12 got a reaction from Humming Bird in Drinking Alcohol After Being Banded?
That depends on what you mean by "regular." One glass of wine every Sunday with dinner isn't a problem. Needing to drink every single day probably is!
Doctors have different rules about alcohol--some say never again, some say in moderation. My doctor is OK with it, as long as I am careful about the obvious effects of alcohol consumption, as well as the empty calories it contains. I usually have between one and three drinks a week--some weeks more, some less, some none at all. I don't find that it affects me any differently, but since banding I've been careful to not get drunk (want to prevent the stomach effects of a hangover), only slightly buzzed once in a great while. :blushing: The only problem I've ever had with any drinks since surgery are frozen drinks; once in a while it seems a frozen drink will make my band clamp shut! I also stay away from shots; they make me queasy, though I don't think that's really a band thing, plus they can contribute quickly to the previously mentioned hangover stomach issues.

L12 got a reaction from BigBrownRon in "sweet spot", how many cc's to reach yours?
My sweet spot (when I first reached it) was around 7ccs in a 14cc band. That stopped most of my hunger, and prevented me from eating a lot--normal, small-sized portions, but no more than that unless I wanted it to come back up and/or make me VERY uncomfortable. Since I was first banded, I have slowly gone up to about 9.5ccs to keep my hunger down. Although I'm going in for a very tiny fill tomorrow, I've been maintaining my weight with between 9 and 10ccs in my band for over a year now.

L12 reacted to Jachut in Exercise and excess skin...
The thing you ahve to remember is that if you're going to have excess skin - you ALREADY have it. That skin is already stretched out, those collagen bonds are already broken, you cant undo it with exercise, creams, slower weight loss, nothing. Its just down to genetics and luck. a good clue is stretch marks, if you have them, that skin isnt really going to snap back. If you're stretch mark free like I was, then you have some hope, but at 43, although I dont have an excess skin "problem", my body would look better and tighter if I'd never become overweight. But I'll take it, it sure beats still being obese. Try not to stress about it, none of us have perfect bodies and I think the key to happiness is learning to love what you have.
Exercise WILL give your body a better shape and create nice muscle that will fill out the skin a bit better though, we've all seen those crash diet after pictures where people have lost 500lb in 4 weeks and look like they've walked out of a concentration camp. That's the look you get when you lose the wrong sort of weight - too much muscle, proper diet and exercise, plenty of Protein, enough carbs for energy, some cardio and some strength training will preserve your muscle as much as possible (its unavoidable to lose some muscle with weight loss) and keep you shapely rather than scrawny.

This is your life ! His approval is not necessary.
If he had a Medical procedure done, I'm sure you would be buy his side what ever it would be.

A calorie is a calorie..is a calorie Your body doesn't know a calorie from an apple any different from a calorie from pizza. If it fits within your daily caloric needs, there is nothing wrong with pizza. Don't be so foolish. The only thing important at the end of the day is a caloric deficit and ensuring your dietary fat/carbs/protein needs are met along with exercise.

    Funny Stuff.
Some People here acknowledge that pizza is NOT a good choice for someone trying to lose weight. But look at all the people who went ahead and did it anyway.
    Jeez.
And people wonder why the actual success rate of the lap band is so low.

With TRS, you have a catastrophic cap of $1000. You will have to pay the amount of your copays/deductibles until you have paid up to the $1000 for this fiscal year, which started Oct. 1. I had my surgery in December, so I had not put a big dent in my cap yet that year. Total, I probably paid about $800 of copays for everything (psych eval, preop testing, surgery, etc.) until I reached my cap.

You don't have to stay away, but in the future you should realize that if you ASK for people's input on LBT, they will give it. THEN when you argue with them or tell them you refuse to do every reasonable option to help your situation, they get frustrated and wonder why you bothered to post in the first place, and why they wasted their time on you.
ETA: For some reason my post keeps getting cut off! The rest of it:
Seeing someone say "I can't" and "I won't" so many times gives the impression of a very lazy, irresponsible, immature, and selfish person--most of us have a limit on how much patience and effort we are willing to expend on someone like that. We don't all do the right things all the time, or only have good things to report--but the majority of us expend some amount of energy once we are banded. We don't understand you. Remember the name of your thread: " Just wanna share and see what you have to say to me." You've seen it, and had some good advice and stark reality.

The fact that I say I will not follow the rules.. is because for 6 years I have tried and I have had the best of intentions and I have failed. I might follow the rules for one day or one week.. or even a couple months.. but, I always fail eventually.... I dont feel LIke I am MAKING EXCUSES, as I am just stating FACTS... MAYBE one day I WILL do it, and succeed, but I have not so far so why should I continue to fool myself and lie to myself that I will.. Im just staRting to believe i NEVER will. I DONT have eternal hope for the situation. Thats all...
I tell myself not to buy the cookies, all my family isnt allowed to get me cookies and never do, my care provider will not get me cookies., but I still find a way....
I dont know any one here is saying that I am so horrible.. when isnt there thousands of obese people on this site, of whom ATE TOO MUCH, DID NOT HAVE CONTROL< ATE shit that wasnt good for them... for many years, always failing to stay on diet, always giving in and eating junk, .. I know Im not the only one.

When someone finds the answer please let me know too. I also want to be able to eat Cookies, chocolate, cake etc without putting on weight. I don't want to exercise and I don't want to take responsibility for what I put in my mouth - that's too hard.
I'm looking for a magic wand - maybe I should go to Ollivanders?
Please don't tell me there isn't one. I can't lose weight by making healthy choices the same way everyone else has to. There has to be a surgery that makes it possible to do things my way. I'm happy to do what it takes - if not the lapband, then a bypass, sleeve or whatever so long as it doesn't involve me having to do the work!

Gosh....what makes me think you don't do the right thing? You literally asked me that question in your response to my post.
    And I quote you...
"So.. Obviously, in order for me to lose more weight. I need to STOP drinking the chocolate milk. STOP eating the Cookies and chips.
I know everything i can have instead. I know exactly what to do. JUST WONT DO IT. For 20 years I wouldn't do it, and still.. humm I WONT DO IT. " Gee, this might have been my first clue that you don't do the right thing.
And as far as comparing yourself to me and talking about how I must not always have done the right thing and obviously have the weight to lose or I would not be here....that is absolutely correct but I certainly don't come here and whine about how I know I will not do the right thing so can you all help me figure out a way not to have to. I think it is time for you to pull your head out, put your big girl panties on and deal with it!! You will not get out of the sacrifice and doing the work to reach your goals....none of us do. DUH.
This situation is so beyond pathetic...ugly....and selfish...that I am going to do myself a favor and unsubscribe to this thread. I am here to learn, get support and give support to those that want and need it. You obviously don't no matter what you say. Your list of excuses and responses to those encouraging you to do the right thing clearly shows that. Take care.

L12 got a reaction from kmt1973 in How does sticking to just meat, cheese, and eggs make you lose fat?
A strict low carb diet prior to surgery helps to burn off the glycogen stored in the liver, which shrinks it considerably. Fasting also does the same thing (though is considerably more uncomfortable ).
ETA: Fully depleting the glycogen stores can reduce the size of the liver by about 10%.

This may be harsh but nonetheless, here it is. I think it is incredibly selfish of you to come to this board and look for help and suggestions of how to do this journey the wrong way....and be so very blatant about it. You can put all the nice terms to it you want such as...being honest...but at the end of the day it is just blatant disregard for what this place is all about.
There are many people on here who stumble and none of us are perfect but the goal is to lift each other up and encourage one another to get into the battle the healthy and correct way. If you are so clearly unable and unwilling to do so I think it is unfair for you to post it here.
I realize that everyone's journey is different. Again I acknowledge that most of us will stumble and not always do things perfectly. But to just flat out say we are not going to and we are looking for a way to do things wrong and hope others will help us figure out how to do that.....is really selfish and destructive to the most basic purpose of this place.
I really do hope something changes for you and you can muster up what it takes to do this correctly. You can do the right thing wrong...and it is still wrong in the end. We should all strive to do the right thing right.....and help others to do the same along the way.
