Yahoo reacted to BabySpoons in Surgery Shaming Should Be A Thing…
Anyone who knows me in RL knows I was facing some serious health issues, so no one has given me any grief...so far.
For those who don't know me well, I don't really care what they think and don't care if they know I had a procedure or not. I tell them I had Metabolic surgery which leaves them scratching their heads
When people think of RNY or sleeve they assume it's all about restriction. Hence "cheating". But when you explain it's much more than that. Resets the metabolism, setpoint, reverses insulin resistance, some will see obesity more for what it is. A disease that needs medical intervention and not just a lack of willpower.
Sadly the majority will never understand that regardless of recent studies. For them, it's easier to just think we're lazy.

Yahoo reacted to Gabbie-1 in Surgery Shaming Should Be A Thing…
I just read “if someone says something cruel or prying” you should respond with “are you ok” in a concerned manner. If they push respond with “it just isn’t like you to be so_____.” Fill in the blank. Suggestions= rude, catty, mean, insensitive, prying, whatever fits the situation

Yahoo got a reaction from AprilTheGreatMystery in Looking for "shorties" that started around 200 lbs
I started at 198 and am 5’3. Lost 10 lbs pre surgery and am at 169 now. Surgery was March 20th

Yahoo got a reaction from greeneyedgirl79 in March 23 buddies yet?
Had bypass on March 20th. Down 18lbs since surgery. On soft foods. Stall a lot. Good energy. Restless sleep. Blood sugar, blood pressure numbers are way down. Struggle a bit with keeping my Fiber numbers on track but still having a daily bowel movement

Budget for it. If you know you're likely to have a couple Snacks after dinner, make room for it earlier in the day with your calories/protein. Learn what your behaviors are and try to "outsmart" yourself.
Another thing that has helped me tremendously is to make my healthy snacks more convenient for myself than the unhealthy ones. These suggestions are obviously with the caveat that I don't know what stage of eating you're in, but this has worked for me. Cut up some veggies, make yourself some "snack boxes" for in the evening that are grab-and-go (maybe a Babybel Lite cheese and a handful of berries? Fresh mozzarella and Tomato skewers? olives and some sliced ham or turkey?).
If you like sweet stuff, I make "yogurt sundaes" sometimes which is basically what it sounds like: greek yogurt (I like Dannon Light and Fit), with a handful of berries and a small amount of sugar-free chocolate chips or cocoa nibs, maybe some nuts? (Whatever fits with your diet that you like). It makes it feel more fun to call it a sundae.

Thank you - for this and all of your responses on this forum - I have learned so much from you. It will be much easier to mitigate my cravings than to surpress them and then burst

I don't know how far along you are. If you are really finding it hard to be without food in the evening then find things that fit your calorie limit.
I always have a snack in the early evening. I am helped by having GERD because I can not eat for 2 hours before bed. It depends on my calorie intake for the day - as to what I eat.
Sometimes its the remnants of my last meal that I could not manage earlier. If I am low on calories, I will have some blue cheese and fruit. If I am low on Protein, then its a protein yogurt or pudding.
There are always sugar free ice lollies in the freezer and small single serve packets of popcorn in the cupboard and melon in my fridge.

Not worrying about chairs ! Not being the fattest human in the room . Not feeling like people are watching what I put on my plate at a gathering. Being able to sit in the back seat of a car and not worrying about the seatbelt not fitting !!!
All absolutely true !!!

Yahoo got a reaction from summerseeker in Loss of weight has not helped me feel more confident
This post really resonated with me (my surgery was relatively recent and I am just tipping over from obese to overweight - so not talking about men but just people in general).
I never thought of myself as fat (until I looked in the mirror or saw a photograph) so it was not an ingrained part of my identity. I did however feel like always being the heaviest person in the room made me stand out and be more noticeable - and that made me uncomfortable.
Now I really don’t like it when people compliment me on how I look - or treat me nicer - it’s like I wasn’t a human being before but now I am. They noticed me before but didn’t see me or want to know me - and that makes me sad for the person who I was and still am - and a little resentful (like if I wasn’t good enough for you before please don’t bother).
I use to dread headshots - and now how we look is part of our profiles everywhere. We all make such quick judgements about each other based on looks. There are so many people struggling with their weight who will never have access to this surgery and will live their personal and professional lives being looked down on by others.

Yahoo reacted to BabySpoons in What Made You Smile Today?
One week out of gastric bypass surgery, I was a bit down. Tired, sore... so decided to watch something to lift my mood on TV. What normally would make me smile, chuckle or laugh wasn't happening. I thought. Oh no! Have I lost my sense of humor already with all of the hormonal changes happening? Shirley not
Post whatever makes you happy. I'm sure many here would love to smile with you

Yahoo got a reaction from MelbaT in Feeling frustrated and demoralized
Here is my story. I spent years stuck at 210 (I am 5’2) and thousands of dollars on personal trainers, nutritionists etc. watched and recorded everything I ate to no avail and of coarse the only scale movement would be I ate a cookie and gained two pounds. Meanwhile I began collecting every co morbidity - sleep apnea, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes , sever scaring on my liver. After two seperate per ate unsuccessful medically supervised diets I was advised gastric bypass was my best bet. I lot 10 lbs in the lead up (5 days a week of boot camp and strength training and Keto diet). I lost another 20 lbs on the per-op liquid diet. Had surgery on March 29th. Lost 5 lbs in the first two days and have had no movement since. Walking 3 times a day at 30 minutes each. Drinking 70 oz of Water and at least 90 g of Protein plus all of the supplements. I know there is a three week stall but I am on a 3 day stall (at the time when weight loss is suppose to be the easiest). This was my last hope and I am starting to feel hopeless.

Yahoo reacted to Sigh in Just want a friend to talk to candidly
I can so relate. I am 52, divorced and single mom of 18 year old son and 13 year old daughter. I also work from home most of the time, so it’s hard to make new friends. All of my close friends live several states away, and my life revolves around my kids activities, work and helping my aging parents. I have told NO one about my surgery— AT ALL. I was self pay in Mexico, and like many didn't want to hear the judgement about it. I did this for me, and no one else.
It’s worked well for me to come here for information and advice from people in similar situation, i hope it offers you an outlet as well.

Yahoo reacted to Albus in Hello again
Hi all,
Been a while since I posted here but my 5 year surgiversary is coming up so thought I might…
I got into cycling about 3 years ago and it’s kind of taken over my life. Went to back Belgium (where I got my sleeve) last weekend and took part in a brutal cycling event - Tour of Flanders Cyclo, 177km with 2300m of climbing on often cobbled hills. Pro’s raced many of the next day.
Couple of pics below, quite pleased with myself but now focussed on losing a bit more timber - I did have a blip during lockdown and gained nearly 20kg but currently at my lowest since surgery. ~57kg off my heaviest.

Yahoo got a reaction from ReinventingRuben in New Here - 1 week post-op
We had surgery on the same day!! My weight loss has been less than I hoped for the first week but getting my liquids, Protein and walks in. I am not having any issues holding down liquids (and while I am not pushing it - I feel like I would not have issues handling more liquids)

Yahoo got a reaction from Tomo in Eating and drinking at same time.
I have been using this hack - after I eat I go for a 30 minute walk then come back and start sipping again - takes care of the 30 minutes and gives me three walks too
