I would have gone overboard with all that food. Good restraints you have

    Cat

thanks. I am travelling to different places by car. But plane to Sydney. I was lucky to have a fridge. It took me 3 days to eat a very saucy pulled chicken korma.

so the surgeon is taking me back in for surgery #6 on the 28th March. He still isn’t happy with the results and progress. I have already held off on the bread, Pasta, rice, oil fried foods and carbonated drinks. But now I’m to try to have nothing carbohydrates and nothing sugary. Plus cut back on the yoghurt smoothies. It’s not leaving much for me to eat or drink. The fundoplication isn’t “flapping” like it should he said. But I told him I feel great. Just the regurgitation with everything I eat.

Does this friend know about your stomach surgeries??

Yeah they do. They know what I’ve been through physically and mentally. But we have estranged a little only eating out every 3 months with them. They struggle to have cash to go out, so she hates waste I feel bad about wasting money. Even if I get a doggy bag. Generally hubby eats what’s left. I feel guilty about that too as he has weight issues(105kg) and is diabetic. His parents grew up on disability and money was always tight and he is old school about eating everything on your plate. I generally order an entree or alter the main meal and ask for it with the entree’s. That way I eat over the hour or so we are out and normally I just have Water which I hardly touch. Or if I’m with my 12yr old we share a meal together. I normally have a drink before leaving home. And again when I get home.
my eating does suck At the moment again. As mentioned I’ve been away from home a lot. I eat 1-2 times a day. Everything is mainly liquid now. Much easier to make up and keep in an insulated container and just sip away.

Eating out: it’s a nice way for you to buy new clothes and show them off.
your photos look so good. I’ll have to find mine. (But most are in my underwear or nothing and I’m not posting either of them.)

I do have a photo where I’m in my pjs and I just show my belly and war wounds.
I have lost a few cms everywhere since surgery #4.(Nov2nd)

the surgeon told me repeatedly I would only loose 5kms this time. But things have been better.
I see him on the 15th Feb for my month follow up since my issues. some have been resolved.
I sprained my ankle walking. Which on ultrasound has shown I tore my perineal in my right foot and am only allowed to walk 10mins a day. So now I lug around a moonboot. This becoming a new person is pushing my boundaries.
I'm away from home for 4 weeks straight (2 in our capital city, 1 in Sydney and then another week in capital city) so this will test my eating. I’m determined to not fall into bad habits. Just don’t know how much of a routine I can follow.
    my measurements and pics below

    the pics are in order.

I am SO excited you were able to eat eggs!!! How is it going? We're you able to keep them down?

Thanks Cat. they were so yummy. I had them again a few days later but they didn’t sit right.

I am almost at the 3 month mark. I will do measurements in a few days.
I have to eat even smaller amounts then a normal sleeve patient and chew 1000 times. Almost like mush in my mouth before it goes down.
this is odd: The dietician has told me to chew the steak and then spit it out. This way I can get the taste and not the blockage. That has worked for at home meals. I am enjoying creating and cooking again.
I have been busy with work(own business, work from home) but I have been staying 200km away from home 2 days a week as I have stuff on. Mostly immediate family stuff. That has interfered with my eating and drinking routine. I don’t feel happy/excited to eat out in public. Being judged for what and how much I eat. A friend complained I was wasting food.

im looking forward to everyone’s achievements on our 3 month mark.

If you're already staying away from sugar and carbs, you're ahead of the game. I think the bypass will definitely improve things drastically for you. The sleeve was never a viable option for you because of the GERD. I'm wishing you all kinds of luck, but I know you'll come through it ok. Don't be afraid of the revision. It's the easiest part of everything you've been through.

    Hi Sleeve to Bypass.
good to know I never got the bypass. I was so worried cause of you saying the weight loss and all.

I ended up in Emergency NYE as I couldn’t intake anything. I was in so much pain and extremely dehydrated.
They went in and found I had to perforations. One just above the fundoplication on my oesophagus and the other in the stomach. A week in hospital on intravenous meds and now 1 week home and I am feeling so much better.

  5. Hi all.
When I was on round one journey this came From the dietician when I had my stall. The stalls are normal. A lot of you are getting active and building muscle. You’ll notice more in the measurements then the scales.

Spoke with the Dr this morning and he said I can try soft soft diet. So I got off the phone and went straight for the scrambled eggs( haven’t been able to stomach them in the last 17 months) oh they were a delight and how I missed them.

  6. Hi all,

I am glad I’m not the only one having issues.
I haven’t had steak in 16 months. A month ago I was woken by my husband as I thought his arm was a big ice juicy steak🤣

Cat you could be gaining muscle and that’s why the weight doesn’t look different on scales. But your measurements do. The surgeon also said when you go to soft diet/full diet you can have a stall. But also Fluid intake plays a part.

Some Guy you are doing a great job. Screw what others think. Sarcasm is the way to go.

meisha tell them how much you’ve lost overall. As that is when your weight loss journey started. Some people don’t know I had the partial sleeve. But I went in for hernia repair august 2022 and ended up with the Partial sleeve cause of stomach damage. So mine was a bonus and a kick start to reality.

Me……When I had my 8wk post appt we had talked about the pain I was in and not stomaching soft foods and how I might end up having gastric bypass…….
Well I ended up in hospital NYE. I couldn’t drink/eat or even swallow my own saliva without excruciating pain. Turns out I had a perforation in my oesophagus and stomach with a lot of inflammation. We had to go on a drip as I was also very dehydrated. Have intravenous meds 3 times a day as I was becoming septic too.
So I am back on fluids for this last week and the next two weeks. 🙄. So over fluids/liquids. I cried Christmas Day as everyone was eating turkey and prawns.
but the plus side is I’ve lost 10kgs since Nov 2nd.

  7. @SomeBigGuy sorry to hear you got Covid. My two girls got it before Christmas. I still have never had it.
you seem to be doing really well with the weight loss. Thanks for your kind words. We will see what the surgeon says at my next appt 2nd Jan. he is deciding of going down the bypass stage. But will have a definite answer as he has me booked in on the 11thJan.

  8. Thank you for your advice.
I had originally gone in to repair the hernia. But some of my stomach was damaged and he had suggested as I was over weight to do the sleeve. I said to do what they needed to do. After he was unable to fix the ongoing issues I was referred to another surgeon who did all the repairs and moved away some more stomach. I had bulging pockets. It was an extensive surgery(3hrs)

I don’t have sugar or sugary foods. And as for carbs. I haven’t had them since surgery #1 and this surgeon has told me not to have them at this stage.

  9. Hi Sleevetobypass

thank you for taking the time to respond. Prior to this surgery I had 2 barium swallows. The first time I couldn’t get the liquid in. I was just vomiting. So he got some videos and we rescheduled. I’ve had the dye contrast ct scan.
I had bad GERD and was on medication for about 6 yrs. That is not good. Before surgery I regurgitated with every meal. This time round I’ve regurgitated about 5 times. The surgeon said my oesophagus is narrow leading in to the stomach as some oesophagus was removed. I’ve told him I don’t want the stress as I had that last time and then all the issues started.
he told me at initial consult this time round in October that bypass would be the last resort. And now 3 months later it’s on the table.
I was never really big 105kg. They just had to remove parts of the stomach and the hiatus. Now in the last 48hrs the constant pain is in my right hip area. The ER said they can’t do anything as they need my records and everything here is closed.
I wanted a better quality of life and I’m not achieving this no matter what I do by the book. I haven’t had eggs, bread, rice or Pasta in 16 months and only 2 cans of fizz no sugar. That was towards the end when he told me I could as it wouldn’t damage anymore damage then is already done.
I guess I just have to keep taking the pain killers and wait for the 2nd Jan on his decision.

  10. After starting soft diet on the 15th I got sharp agonising pains every time I ate. After two days I went back to purée. Saw the surgeon on the 21st and I’m back to liquids. I’ve aggravated my oesophagus and it’s become inflamed. So now no matter what goes in it hurts. Even deep breathing and inside hiccups. I went up to the hospital last night as I’m dehydrated and I was told to drink more and see surgeon. Which surgeon isn’t open till 2nd. it hurts so much to drink, I’m on pain meds and pain Patches.
surgery #5 is scheduled for the 11th jan. The day before my birthday.

  11. Hi

a little on what’s happened to me. 16 months ago I had to have gastric sleeve as my hiatus hernia and other issues had strangled my stomach. I had the hiatus hernia repaired at the same time. 4 weeks later I had to go in for a stretch as I couldn’t stomach soft foods. 3 months later I was still on purée and soft soft foods. We did more testing and surgery again to fix the hiatus. Things didn’t progress past the purée. I was sent to our state capital to see the head surgeon. After running more tests they found more issues. My stomach had moved above my heart. Causing most of my eating issues. I had surgery #4, 8 weeks ago. After a 3 Hr operation they repaired the hiatus, fixed my Nissan fundoplication and had to staple more stomach away as I had a pouch.
I was on liquid for 3 weeks, purée for 3 weeks. But a day after starting soft foods I am back to liquids/purée as everytime I ate it felt like an air bubble was blocked and I was vomiting.
now everytime I drink/eat/swallow saliva I get a sharp stabbing pain.
The surgeon has said I may have to have bypass. how has everyone coped with GB and any tips for me please?

  12. 6 weeks 1 day post op and I’m finally on soft foods today. I had eggs. Which I haven’t been able to have for 15 months. I’m so going to look forward to this stage.
otherwise I am feeling really great. I can’t wait to try out some more foods I’ve been missing this past 15mths.
I am on holidays too. So been able to walk a lot.

  13. That app is good we also use Calorie king. But I’m finding I’m not getting the calories anyway. I am on 60g of Protein a day.

Im 1 month 1 day post op. I have vomited twice since Friday😔. I had a zoom with the surgeon Friday and he has suggested to have purée an extra week. He was afraid I may have inside scaring in my oesophagus and if I do they will do a endo to remove scaring. I see my gp again Tuesday to discuss this as I’m away from Tuesday arvo to Late Friday night. Then I’m home 4 days before going away again for 9 days. Pity I can’t have any soft foods yet.
but am feeling positive. Walking an Hr doesn’t hurt anymore.

Hi everyone, I hope I can jump in!

I had a sleeve in 2018 and just had a mini bypass (omega loop) performed on mon 27.11. Just got home from hospital today and still feeling quite swollen and poorly, but hoping every day feels a bit better. :)

    Hi MJ

hope this time round is a success for you.
I had to have a 2nd gastric sleeve. Had an emergency GS last August 2022 due to my hiatus hernia and diaphragm strangling my stomach. After a non successful 14 months I had to have another part of my stomach removed and the hiatus hernia repaired again. But this time it was way ip in my chest.
29 days post op and am feeling good now. Besides vomiting a few times this week.

  15. Spot on SBG.
this happened to me first time round. I also didn’t do any pre op for both surgeries as they were both ended up emergency surgeries.
but you also get a stall around 3 months. I lost 55lbs(25kgs) in 3 months. But cause I was so sick and not handling foods my body stored all the nourishment I would be able to hold down. Plus I was plagued with injury so couldn’t walk.

Cat, up your Protein. My nutritionist said this to me and I started to shed a little more.

good luck Brandy. You are doing this cause you want a better quality of life.

Hope everyone is continuing to do well. I over indulged for Thanksgiving and didn’t feel great after (some very wet mashed potato and a few spoonfuls of pumpkin pie filling). Otherwise have not really had much pain or nausea. Tomorrow is my two week appointment and I expect to be given the green light to move to purées and soft foods. I’m down about 15 pounds from my surgery and 45 from the start of my preop diet.

    Well done on the loss.
dont over do it. It is a big adjustment. After 14 months I got the hang of limited foods, about a cup full. And that one extra sip or mouthful made me throw up everything. And now I can have no more then 3/4 a cup. And I’ve only thrown up three times since surgery on the 2nd.

i had a mini meltdown last night. I had thrown up and also had my first dumping(think it was the date smoothie.) and I was contemplating the decisions on the fluid/puree diet for the last 15 months. And how it’s affecting my mental health. I am so over it and often feel myself wondering to how people do this for their life. I am walking 30mins - 1hr a day. And it’s the only enjoyment I feel besides my sewing. I can only sit for an hour at a time.
    I see my GP tomorrow.

Yep those sneezes and hiccups hurt so much. I’m 25 days post op and it still hurts. Even the burps do.

Hey guys… did anyone take pickles or do stats before you went in for surgery.. my day is coming soon Wednesday. I am trying to decide if I want to do them Wednesday morning before I go in.

First time round- I took photos in different standing poses and even in bra and underwear. I did all the body measurements too. (As Cat says. It’s good for the stalls)

This time I remembered on the morning as my daughter reminded me.
the dr said I wouldn’t loose much as I lost it all the first time a year ago. But I’m 5 kgs down

  18. 3 hours ago, SueCaudell said:

I'm 1 day post op. The only pain was in my shoulder. I'm sure it was trapped gas. But man it was really tough. The pain finally let up 24 hours later. The incisions have not hurt.

yep I had that for 4 days. Two of my 5 incisions were itchy from day one and those two stick out. I had chest pains as the incision there was bigger as they had to use retractors and they fractured a rib. (I had other issues repaired at that site)

21 days post op and I transferred to purée this morning for the next 3 weeks. I could stomach the puréed fruit. But when I did whipped potatoes with gravy they felt like they got blocked and I threw it back up. So now I’m worried the same thing is happening all over again.

good luck with you up coming appt.

    anib how did work go?

  20. Congratulations To those that are now post op. Our journey to a new quality of life has began.
hoping you are all recovering nicely. 16 days post op and I’m still on liquids. I’ve lost a total of 5 kgs already. I’m struggling to meet the intake of daily Protein and fluids. I’m never hungry. I don’t see my surgeon again till 21st Dec.
