    Food confusion

Sometimes too much info is bad. I follow what my surgery information booklet tells me. It lays out days and weekly schedule. It tells me food to eat during these times and I'm following it to the letter. I have added a copy of the guide I use. Hope it will help. It had guided me well and I only move on to my next stage only when I am ready I never get ahead of this schedule. That was the best advice I gotten from my surgeon and nutritionist and I'm greatfull for it. Best wishes on your weight loss journey. !! TWH_dietexcerpt_dec2013.pdf I also wanted to add that I use MyFitnessPal to track my food and nutrition and it help me track my calories, carbs and salt intake.

    Gastric bypass - self pay

Wow reading this topic I'm very fortunate I qualified for surgery here in Canada. It did take about a year of screaming and follow ups. In the end all was covered under ohip . Ontario health insurance policy and did not pay directly out of pocket. Most people who start the process do not fill requirements. They don't follow guidelines or miss appointment or ignore preset goals. I was informen that 85% give up and of those that do the surgery 60 % regain the weight back in 5 to 10 years. I know of two people that did surgery and one gained weight back and the other is still keeping it off. So I am truly wishing you all positive thoughts encouragement and support in all of us on this weight loss journey!
  3. I talked with my pharmacist and told her of my surgery and sleeping struggles. She recommended I can take melatonin . I found these that are 3mg. A recommended dose can be from 5 to 10 mg. Si day one I tried just one 3mg. I slept ok. But still struggled a bit next day I tried two 3mg. And was great. Just to see I tried three 3 mg the following day and wes lights out quickly. Awesome! So I found that for me 2 or 3 work great. I try to keep it at two but I have the option of three. So I would ask your pharmacist and see what they would recommend. I also if woke up at night have a small glass of warm milk. And nighty night.

    Serving Sizes

so i had my first meeting with my medical team. we talked about pain management, nutrition, fluid consumption, vitamins and exercise. so far everything is going very well I am able to consume all my shakes and vitamins in correct amounts. I brought up my concerns about amount amount that I'm consuming and they told me that it is ok. When i transition to soft food I should keep three meals and two snack through the day. keeping meals about 250-325 grams about a 1 cup to 1.25 cups. to eat slowly and keep drinking fluids all day.. separate food from liquid about 30min apart. weighing foods it a great way to keep amount within range. I am using an app to track my food and nutrition and I am consuming about 900-1000 cal per day and I could increase to max of 1200 to help with my feeling very tired. My body is still healing and being tired is part of it also. getting rest and napping is common for most people after a drastic surgery. at the end of our meeting I ended feeling very good about my progress and my team is proud with my results and look forward to our 3 month meeting where we will follow up with blood work.
  5. Good for you. I'm hopeful and wish you good health and success in your weight loss journey.
  6. I have been feeling very tired the last few days also. My surgery was September 19 and am on week 2 of liquid diet. I have stopped loosing weight for about 10 days now and will have my first appointment with my team on Wednesday. I know the process is long term and can take time. My concern is I'm eating late as I tend to sleep in . And start my day later on. 11am most days. I use to be up at 7 am before surgery. Going to bed 12-2 am. And napping 2 or 3 times a day for 20 min to 1.5 hours. I feel disconnected from routine. I have tried to go to bed earlier but lie there for hours on end and eventually get up. Just feeling frustrated right now. Thank you for any ideas or recommendations.

    1 month post-Op work out/Exercise?

Fabulous advice! Thank you for your great words. !!!
  11. There are so many overdoses out there and getting worse. The use of fentinal to cut heron or cocaine is on the rise. I have had two people I know die from overdosing because the blow was cut with fentinal. It is not worth the risk of doing it anymore. They have taken the fun out of it. I would not risk it . The pain of those left behind is horrible. Rip K we still miss you and your smile.

    No medical support

Sounds like they are more concerned about getting sued then helping people. That doc is an ass$$le. I'm so sorry you have gone through this. I wish you love and good health from Canada!

    Surgery and cannabis

I stopped smoking cigarettes ( 30 plus years smoking). I actually never really liked pot. I found it made me feel stupid but I smoked hashish instead. Different high it could function on it. In highschool I would get high listen to Rush and do homework all throughout grade 11& 12. Those were my two years of my best marks( not a joke but 80s& 90s were constantly my marks then... I stopped cigarettes (2006)and also unconsciously stopped smoking hash also. Don't miss it and feel great. Definitely clearer thoughts and my lung function has vastly improved. Here in Canada a smoker would not qualify for bypass surgery so if you wanted in to the Program you have to stop. I am very glad I did. Bypass surgery has given me an opportunity to reset myself. I have Improved my eating habits, health, and overall well being. Sometimes you just have to make changes and stick to them. They are not easy choices and successes big or small will help character development. I recommend you should do the things that best help you succeed in your weight loss journey, smoking and drinking are things that will lower your opportunities at truly being your best. My struggle right now is I like to eat late. I have been doing it all my life and that is my next hurdle to overcome. I read some tips and many words of encouragement here. I hope that you can find some inspiration from everyone here. We all struggle and need help sometimes. I wish you good health and best of fortunes in your weight loss journey.

    Post Op Penis Size

I don't know the answer but I'm hopeful I will be able to see it when I look down instead of my belly. Not having morning wood has not been a major issue for me but it has been about more frequent and seems a bit longer before it goes down. I read somewhere that the higher intake of protein and vitamins will help. So I think it can be true. Keep healthy.

Soft food sooner than two weeks?

I am 3 week post of and on liquid diet. I'm also craving something soft. I'm so tempted to cheat. It is so difficult but I also am not willing to take the chance of getting injured internally . It is really simple. I see it as I'm in for long term success and that it is not easy. If it were it would not be the challenge it is. I have been neglecting my body and health for 35 years and I'm tired of the aches, pains, numbness in my leg and feet from being diabetic, constantly being tired and just feeling like sh!t. So I ask you and of me to be better and do not cheat yourself. You have decided to go on a life changing Journey and it will be difficult at times. It has to be! It will be worth it. Keep your cool and stick with the program and you will be more successful and be healthier very soon. Keep at it! We are here for you !!

  17. I am entering 20 days after surgery and I find my self craving food in the evenings. I have always had bad habit of eating late at night. I am trying to drink fluids but now that I can have some crackers I find I'm binging. Any one else falling into this situation and how are you dealing with it?? What are your suggestions to help me with this.

    Smelly farts

Yes I too would have benefited from having a super or two. I did use older underwear so I just tossed a couple out. Thought it was a fart but sadly it wasn't. Lol.

    Smelly farts

Yes I admit my farts are definitely different smelling. Extra stinky and I had diarrhea for the first week. I stopped with the senokot laxative I was prescribed at night. I helped solidify my poops. Remember your gut and intestines are in a changing faze. It will get better. If you have extreme pain then please call your dietitian and let them know or call your doctor. Wishing good health on your weight-loss journey. Remember we are here for you!

    I cheated - now what?

There is some very good advice . You are not alone in this. I'm 20 day post op and I have what I call fat brain. I eat not because I'm hungry. I eat because my brain is yet to resolve my habits. I eat late and too much.it has been my issue for 30 years and it will take time to relearn better habit. One thing that I'm doing is to eat better protein at night and have suger free snacks for night. Sugar free jello or pudding and or no added sugar Greek yogurt . Another thing I'm trying as of two days is I put on a timer and eat two small spoonfuls every five minutes. I have tossed out all temptations and snacks in house. If I'm learning new eating habits then everyone in my home is also. No chips, no pop, ice cream or junk food. It is a great time to teach kids the importance of cooking healthy and learning portion control. It is not an easy road but it can be done and you will need support from family and friends. We are here for you also. Best wishes and good health on your weight loss journey!!

Tips on what to expect first few weeks

I have been feeling cold also. I started to wear Long johns( sexy pants) and added extra blanket on my side of bed as well as blanket on my legs while I'm on the couch. I read that keeping warm will also help with healing and reduce pain. Keep warm and feel better soon.
