MountainClover reacted to BabySpoons in isopure infusions - is there a trick?
I don't use Isopure but it seems this method would work mixing any Protein Powder drink.
I blend my Protein Shakes with a Vitamix. I was worried because I read on this forum that my blender would cause too much foam and contribute to gas. Never was a problem and I swear it makes my drinks taste better. No chalkiness etc.
I add a frozen cup of yogurt and ice cubes along with skim milk to the mix and it comes out more like a milk shake. I can eat it with a spoon. And to add a bit of sweetness or change up the flavors I add half a packet of SF Sunkist singles or Crystal Light. So maybe try adding some frozen to cut down on the foam for more of a dessert type drink.

Wow!! I am so sorry you are having such a rough time. I think one of your problems is dehydration, which will make you pass out. I would suggest you go to the Emergency dept and see if they can give you an IV drip. Then they may be able to look into why you cant keep anything down. It could be why you are having flu like symptoms too. I sure hope you feel better.

As always, @Arabesque is spot on.
I see that you are are only a few days post-surgery, so the one thing I'd add is that everything you're feeling is 100% NORMAL at this point. We all start second-guessing our decision early on because having WLS is HARD! How you eat, how you feel and how you look is radically changing every day. It's physically and emotionally challenging. The good news is it gets easier as you progress.
I told my wife she only had one job post-surgery. When (not if), I started doubting my decision, she needed to remind me of all the reasons I decided to have the surgery in the first place. I tell you this because I feel like you may need a similar reminder right now. You know your own reasons for taking this journey.
It's easy at this point to think the challenges you're going through are not worth the hoped for end goal, but they are. Remember that it WILL get easier over time and you can absolutely reach those goals you set for yourself. Right now, it's all new and confusing and frankly most of us worry this is how life will be forever. It's not. You will make it past this, just like the rest of us did.

MountainClover got a reaction from MelbaT in A Fib and Gastric Bypass
I woke up yesterday in the middle of the night with my heart racing and feeling dizzy and light headed. I had a cardiologist appointment at 8am for cardiology cleareance. Needless to say I didnt get that clearance and was sent straight to the hospital in A fib. My heart eventually straightened itself out on its own and I was send home with metoprolol and plans to get on a blood thinner. My question is can I still have the gastric bypass surgery with A fib? I am terrifed they are going to say that I cant have the surgery now because of the blood thinner. They wanted me to go on Eliquis but with my insurance it costs $370. I cant pay that every month, so Im waiting for the dr to call in something else. Please tell me this is not the end of the journey for me.

He needs to go back to the surgeon and demand the dr to look into why this is happening. There has got to be a reason he cant eat. If that surgeon wont do anything he need to go to a different one.

Ok hear me out but if you're craving pizza...this is what I do.
I use a lower-carb tortilla (my favorite are the Mission Cauliflower tortillas but they are a bit higher in carbs than some of the other brands), and fill it with about half an ounce of mozzarella cheese, some turkey pepperoni, and whatever other pizza toppings I like (mushrooms, green peppers, onions, etc, whatever you've got that you like)...fold it in half, toast it up like a quesadilla. cut it into thin strips and dip it in pizza sauce. I call it a "Pizza Melt" because I feel weird calling it a quesadilla but it does definitely scratch the itch and is a nice filling meal with Protein and veggies.

MountainClover reacted to SpartanMaker in Eating too fast!
There's a lot to unpack here. Let's start with why we're told to eat slowly:
First of all, recognize that you had a bunch of nerves cut. There are multiple ways your digestive system signals your brain that your are full, but these nerves are the immediate feedback mechanism. Unfortunately, that immediate feedback mechanism is basically broken for a while after surgery. The other signals that you should stop eating are mostly hormonal, but these take a lot longer to activate. (20 minutes is often thrown around, but this is dependent on lots of factors like what and how much you ate.) Bottom line, if you eat faster, it's easy to eat enough to make yourself really sick before you ever get the signal to stop. Obviously this is problematic partly because your stomach is smaller and will fill up faster than it used to, but you also need to remember that early on after surgery, your stomach is also really swollen and inflamed. An inflamed stomach can't stretch like it's supposed to, so there's not a lot of difference between empty and over-full. Taken together, the eat slow recommendation is primarily to keep you from making yourself sick. A secondary consideration is that your team wants you to learn "mindful eating" where you're much more aware of everything that you consume. Being mindful of your consumption is correlated with better outcomes for bariatric patients.
Hopefully that answers your original question. I want to touch on something else that's a bit of a personal pet peeve: you mentioned, and I hear a lot of others worrying about "stretching their new stomach". There's more myth than fact here and this idea really needs to die out.
The truth is that stomachs are designed to work like a balloon. They stretch out as needed, but when empty, they return back to their original size. Can you make it stretch it out to the point it allows you to eat more over time? Yes, and that's exactly what should happen! This is one of the reasons every bariatric plan I've ever seen allows you to slowly increase how much you eat the further away you get from surgery. You need this to happen so that as you get to maintenance, you'll be able to eat enough calories to maintain your new healthy weight.
What you're not going to do is somehow "ruin" your new smaller stomach just because you overate once or twice. It would take overeating a lot over time for excessive stretching to happen. I think what sometimes happens is the inflammation starts going down and people find that they can eat more than expected. Remember, the stomach stretches as needed (up to a point), so they start to panic.
That does not mean there's a problem. It actually means that things are progressing like they should. If this is you, just stick to plan and you'll be fine.

I tell the truth. I'm a pretty open and honest person, and I don't care what they think of me. I am not a good liar and I just think for me it would be much harder to try to come up with some other story.

If someone asks I will tell them because maybe they are looking for answers for their problem too or someone they love. I had 2 people tell me that they had a gastric bypass 10 years before. l had always known them thin so I was surprised to learn that they had had a bypass, but also encouraged by that too. I mean they have both kept they weight of for 10 years!! These two ladies are the reason I got started on the path of weight loss. So if some one asks me I will tell them truthfully.

I would be finding another doctor. If he didnt even review your record what else did he not see? Honestly, there are many things that you could do to get your BP down including just cutting down on salt a little and it could be that your BP was just high that particular day. Mine is always higher at the dr office. Did he have any ideas on other kinds of birth control for you if you stopped the pills? If you are a size 6-8 you do not need to lose more weight!

Perhaps eating a measured amount of food would work better than just eating until you're full..? Take your 1/2 cup of food (or whatever your measurement is) and sit there and slowly eat that. Wait 30 seconds after you've swallowed, before you take the next bite - use a timer. If you feel full before you've finished your measured amount, then stop eating. If you don't feel full after you're done, stop eating.
Are you tracking your food? Tracking can help, because you can see where you might be eating some unnecessary calories. Remember, we still have to diet and exercise. The surgery helps us, but it's not the cure.
A therapist might also be helpful, if your issues are mental/behavioral.
