Have you ever lost 21 lbs in just over a month? You're absolutely on track.
My surgery was also on October 17th. I've lost around 27 lbs. 5'6- starting weight was 227 day of surgery.
The absolute worst thing you can. Do to yourself is compare your journey to others.
This surgery isn't a quick fix. You will have slow loss some months and seemingly easy months with fast loss.
Trust the process. Don't get frustrated abd just focus on what you can control. Nutrition and Water. Everything else will follow.

I eat eggs every morning with a tsp of cottage cheese mixed befire cooking and melted cheddar on top (real cheddar not plastic) and a bit of mild salsa.
I just do a soft scramble, I cook low and slow and turn off the heat when it's still got a little liquid. The residual cooks it completely and it's super soft. Then I just chew chew chew. No issues. 3.5 weeks post op.
For Thanksgiving, try pureed turkey with gravy. I love doing chicken in this way. So much flavor though I can only do about 2 oz over an hour. (My surgeon allows pureed meats in pureed stage :/)
there's a lovely SF pumpkin mouse recipe on pinterest that would be perfect for a treat.

You should be doing about 1/4 cup at this stage, over a hour. Eat slow so you don't miss your full signal and over eat.

I thought it would be nice to bring the subject up of giving yourself time to heal after surgery. I've lost 10 kg since surgery on October 17th, just over 20lbs. But I noticed my clothes arent really fitting much different around my middle. So I measured.
I'm losing everywhere but my tummy is actually up a few cm. (about an inch) I figure this is because im still swollen and my muscles are inflamed from the laparoscopy. I have to remind myself , I am only two weeks out. Slow and steady wins the race.
I just want to share in case someone is feeling discouraged by similar experiences. it's totally normal! We just had a big surgery, even if we are feeling good. We arent healed yet.

Try clear whey Protein Drinks. They are more like flavored water.
Protein is important or youll lose too much muscle mass.
Going to a general diet so early isn't good as you're still healing. I'm October 17th and just moved to purees. Your doctors orders aren't recommendations they're post operative care instructions to ensure you heal properly.
Try pureeing chicken or fish into Soups.
Beef is one of the last things they recommend you eating as it's fatty and harder to chew down to a good puree.

I just made chicken fajitas and bean puree!
Grilled a seasoned chicken breast, then pureed with Greek yogurt.
Made peppers and onion sauté then pureed, set aside.
Layered chicken and pepper/onion puree in baby food tupperware and topped with cheese when reheating.
Made seasoned black Beans with added collagen. Pureed with Greek yogurt. Into baby food containers and also topped with cheese at reheat.
All the flavors!! So nice to not have to drink my food anymore. The Greek yogurt helps with added Protein ad smoothness.

Update! Some positive! I'm almost 5 days post op from VSG in Turkey. My first night was rough. I vomited foam and was nauseated. Gas pains were definitely present and my heating pad seemed to just make my nausea worse in my case.
I was definitely having buyers remorse on day two...... but now my gas pains are gone and I'm walking a ton.
They keep me until tomorrow morning.
I was cleared for liquid diet and fluids yesterday after my 2nd leak test cleared and my drain was removed.
So happy to be off my IVs and have my abdominal drain removed. I'm eating (though my hospital food is meh which makes it harder), getting my Protein Shakes down and getting about 34 Oz (1 liter) of Water in on my second day allowed. I know i can meet my 2 liter goal very soon.
I'm feeling very positive and cannot wait to get home to some well seasoned broth.

I think the hardest part about recovery for me was the first night. I had a lot of very intense gas pains in my chest and shoulder but after that night I only took pain medicine for a couple more days and then it was completely bearable. After that. I've had a C-section and that was definitely a worse and harder experience than this was. Just get your fluids in and your Protein in and you'll be fine

You got this! Those first few days post op are rough emotionally and physically. Just be gentle with yourself and the process.
I have to keep reminding myself that I am only 8 days post op from having like 80% of my stomach removed to keep it in perspective. Am I drinking enough fluids? No, but I'm only 8 days po and getting better each day. Am I drinking enough Protein? No, but getting better each day.
Just keep the perspective that each day something will be even a tiny but easier.

Day 2 post op vsg in Turkey.
    5 day hospital stay.
My first night was horrendous. I was nauseated and threw up three times. Since my stomach was empty it was just post surgery foam. But man that hurts.
Today I was up and walking my post gas pains aren't too bad. I managed a bowel movement which helps get the gas moving. I've never been so happy to fart.
I was allowed a little Water today but am still on IV and I have a drain connected to my largest incision. I was told this is to monitor leakage. It should be removed tomorrow as long as my 2nd leak test is cleared.
Pain has been manageable but I did ask for some relief in the evening as the getting up to walk every hour had caught up to me. I'm not sure if it was the pain medicine, antibiotics or anti nausea medicine injected into the iv that I could suddenly taste but it was such a weird experience.
Luckily swallowing was no issue. So im hoping it's uphill from here, though I'll be curious if I also will have some gastro issues from my first "food".

Don't feel discouraged. You're doing just fine. Fluctuating 2-even 5 lbs a day is normal at any weight. This has to do with Water weight, food etc. It's best to weigh yourself first thing in the morning, before food or drink and most importantly only ONCE per week.
You're still healing. This was a big surgery.
But most of all, Youre on track! Have you ever lost 8 to 10 lbs in one week before this? be proud!
If you obsess over the scale it will mess with your head.
Do not compare any if your progress to other people, our journeys are different right down to our surgeon guidelines and food phases.
For portion sizes, your body will tell you if youre pushing yourself too much.
Start small and work your way up. Less is more right now, Protein Shakes are incredibly important to not lose muscle mass.

Hi, My surgery is on monday so we will be very close on our journey together I will be in the hospital until friday. For me I have made Bone Broth and frozen into cubes for easy heating. I got some collagen protein to add to my Water and Clear Liquids. I also have Jello, sugar free popsicles (otterpops, freezer pop, ice pops-- the ones in the tube). Once I'm allowed all liquids, i will graduate to various broth soups- I have Pho broth cubes, various Cup O Soup packets that I can strain, Miso soup, and a nice clear mushroom soup flavor packet that I can add to the bone broth. I also have clear whey protein in blood orange flavor and a bunch of sample packets of different clear whey protein flavors. Some flavor drops so i can keep things interesting through the period as well.. I will also be adding unflavored whey protein powder to my liquids to make getting my protein in easier once im cleared to do so. Already told my husband to bring me a bottle of water and a sugar-free gatorade when he picks me up- I have a three hour flight from Turkey, and a 1 hour drive from Dusseldorf, Germany to our home in the Netherlands. Probably wont need both, but it will be nice to switch in between the two if possible. I have intentionally not eaten any pumpkin flavored things yet this season so that I will be excited to eat Pumpkin soup when im allowed.

Arrived in Turkey and was picked up by my interpreter. Was allowed pizza before beginning my 24 hour food and Water fast.
Had my chest x-ray, blood taken for tests and my first blood thinner shot.
EKG in the morning and if all is well, surgery is around 11 am. This is really happening!!
I got to visit with another patient when I arrived who was going home tomorrow to the UK. Feeling very confident now, will be so hard to sleep.

Hey! I got my surgery on October 6th and I'm doing fantastic. I'm here if you need any support or suggestions on things to eat or anything like that. I'm now on phase two where I can have cream low fat Soups and a couple other things that I wasn't able to have last week. Let's help support each other on this journey

if you still have issues with dehydration, I recommend IV therapy. It's not cheap- roughly 80-200 depending on where you go, but ive heard a lot of people who have issues with water in the beginning use IV hydration as an option. I'm not sure where you live, but a lot of larger cities have one in the area.

Momsaysimaoops got a reaction from sleevequeen23 in Located in Europe- Surgery in Turkey
    Hello everyone,
I am located in the Netherlands and will be having my Gastric Sleeve surgery on October 17th in Turkey at Grand Medical. I'm choosing to go to Turkey because I am below the 40 BMI required for insurance coverage in the Netherlands. Due to this reason, I must pay out of pocket and the Medical Tourism world is quite high quality in Turkey- same procedures- a quarter of the cost. My costs are below 3000 euros including my 5 days stay at the hospital and my transport to and from the airport- flights are not included- but are fairly affordable if flying from Europe. Their track record is phenomenal for the sleeve and their patient experience passes with flying colors.
I'm choosing to have this surgery as a lower BMI patient due to my family history of obesity over 40 and the fact that I have tried every diet, lifestyle change, even personal training and nothing has worked!!! I have gained muscle and stalled after 5 kg.. The one time i lost weight on Keto, I gained it right back within 1.5 years. I'm looking forward to this new life and the new options it will afford me, not to mention having my confidence back.
If anyone is located in Europe- (western/Northern and UK) is a huge plus and has had the surgery or is having it soon, tell me you experiences and lets keep in touch!
I'd love to be able to share information about what shakes youre using, Vitamins, foods youve found etc as many of the items mentioned by our U.S based members arent available to us.
I'm also interested in hearing if anyone else has had their surgery in Turkey as I know its quite a popular destination for weight loss surgeries and plastic surgeries.

Not every doctor requires a preop diet. mine also doesnt. You can check just to be sure though, I did as well. They just told me to stay away from fatty foods the week before and no carbonated beverages. I also notice you are a lower BMI like myself, and its pretty common for lower BMIs. Generally you dont have the same issues with fatty liver as someone higher and thus no need to do the liver shrinking diet.- this is how it was explained to me.
