    October 2022 surgery support

I just had VGS on 6/29 but I saw the GA in your name and got curious. It looks like we’re pretty close as I’m in Griffin. Good job on taking the steps to prepare! It’ll all make a big difference when it’s time for your procedure. Best to you.
  2. Just an accountability check in/update. I’m so thankful I didn’t chicken out of this surgery. I’m 3.5 weeks post-op, still in the puréed food phase and down 26 lbs. the puréed stage hasn’t been that difficult as I’ve gotten creative with my options. I’m still drinking a couple of protein shakes as I can’t really eat more than a 3-4 “bites” before I’m stuffed. I am struggling to get all my water in daily. I seem to top out at 32 ounces, not including at least a small bottle of Gatorade zero and the 12 oz of 1% milk for my shakes. I started adding a collagen supplement and that stuff smells horrible. 🤢 All in all, everything is going smoothly thus far. 😁

    4 Days Post-Op

I bought some baby gas medicine and that along with walking helped tremendously. I didn’t use a heating pad but my sweet dog had been snuggly so that feels good. 🤣.

I’m 4 days post op and doing good, I think. I feel like I’ve done 1000 sit ups. I’m getting plenty of fluids compared to what the dietician mentioned. I can stomach sugar free pudding with protein powder added. I am ready for the next 3-4 weeks to fly by as I really want a bite of real food. Watching my husband eat is mentally exhausting. Thankfully he tries to eat his meals while I’m not around but that’s not always possible. I keep saying my stomach isn’t hungry but my head is. 🤣

Thanks again everyone! The procedure went well and I’m recovering nicely today. Mostly gas pain from being inflated with a little ouchiness around the biggest incision. Just slowly sipping my water and popsicles so far. Im glad I went through with it. I keep telling myself all the ways this is going to make a difference and that the first month or so is the worst as you’re learning to eat again.
  7. I used Dr. Doucette with Alabama Surgical Associates. So far all my experiences had been pleasant. My procedure was yesterday. I had to pay cash and it 10,300. Thank heavens for loans

Thank you all for the encouragement. I Think today’s what if is “what if I don’t do this and I stay miserable?” I currently in pre op waiting my turn. I truly appreciate all the motivation.

Hey y’all. I scheduled to have my surgery Wednesday. I’ve done great on my 10 day pre op diet. But it seems the closer I get to THE DAY, the more I’m trying to talk myself out of going through with it. What if I’m making a mistake and I don’t recover well? What if I can never enjoy food with my husband again? What if I’m wasting money that could be spent else where? Did anyone else experience this before their procedure?

    6/6 Pre Op Liquid Diet

This gives me hope. I'm on Day 1 of my liquid diet. I should have started yesterday but I didn't. So here I am. I'm drinking the meal replacement shakes and so far I'm okay, I guess. As long as I don't think about wanting to eat I'm good. I'm just waiting until is time for bed. Hopefully I can just go to bed early every night and sleep and work my way through the next 9 days. My surgery day is 6/29.
  11. Hi! I've been reading through the forums and I've learned so much. I'm so excited/nervous as I start the pre-op diet today. I have to do 10 days of liquids, which I'm prepared for but still incredibly nervous. I'm really ready to just pay my money and get the surgery over with before I back out. I'm ready to start the next chapter of my journey. I'm so thankful for my husband who is incredibly supportive. I think my biggest fear is still being unhappy with myself after surgery.
