I see several of you mentioned B12, which my doctor did not recommend. I only take a Multi-Vitamin, Calcium and Vitamin D. What is the B12 for?

B12 in combination with a high protien low carb diet gives you energy and puts your metabolism into overdrive. You can also use Fiber powder like sugar free taste free benefiber to cut carbs if something you want has few extra carbs in it. I have a tsp in my morning coffee to offset my flavored creamer! πŸ˜‰

  2. I'm 6 months into my gastric sleeve and my dr prescribed low dose Phentermine to break my stall, very short term..... it worked and I'm back to loosing again. I only take it as needed to break through plateaus. 3-4 days max then off till I hit another stall. It's working for that purpose, no serious side effects thank goodness, but it does give me crazy energy.

  3. It's a huge pain in the arse! I'm the same, but for me I just don't ever get the urge to go, its like that signal was completely disconnected..... I have to use some sort of laxative to get it going and they dont always work and I only get the urge when its literally knocking at the door πŸ˜†.....Usually every 3-4 days I'll start taking dolcolax cause thats the only thing I've found that works for me. I've never tried Smooth Move though. I'm going to give it a shot.

  4. I had the gastric sleeve a little over a month ago, I experienced dumping according to my nutritionist, it happened after I ate a small scoop of vanilla ice cream at my daughter's birthday party. But it was nothing like it's been described to me in the past or on forums etc. I just got super tired and took a 3 hr nap when I got home. I'm very careful not to eat sugar now, or if I'm going to eat it I'll eat a very small portion, like 1 jelly bean πŸ˜‚. Besides, since surgery most sugary things are wayyyy too sweet now anyway. Dumping can present differently in sleeve patients than it does in bypass patients if at all. I just happen to be one of the luck ones.

  5. I just broke my stall today, started at 3 weeks post op. It lasted for 14 days, gained and lost the same 2 lbs the entire time. My dietitian said its because of my transition from liquid to soft food and now that I'm a month in today I have no food restrictions. She wants me at 900 cal a day and 60/75 g Protein. No limit on carbs. With my stomach restriction I dont see how in the world I'll be able to do that. She said once I start eating more my weight will start to go down again! We've always been taught less is more. Not sure why or how more is going to work but we'll see. Lol

  6. Im 2 weeks out from surgery and things are going good for now, but I know that eventually Im going to have to start introducing and incorporating real food back into my diet and my calorie intake is going to get higher, I'm just terrified that once I do that even of its 4-500 calories my weight is going skyrocket! Has any one experienced weight gain durring their transitional phases? How did it work out? Did you have to start hitting the gym daily to continue loosing? Can you please share your stories. Thank u

I'm only on day 3 at home and every day feels like every other. Got my 15 minute timer. Every time it goes off, I have one or two ounces of something. Reaching my goal of 64oz liquid 32oz of which is Water and 60g Protein. My doc doesn't have me on any Vitamins right now. She stopped them just before surgery. Never really had any gas pains, so thankful. Just ab soreness and pain getting up and down. No hunger at all so far, so sticking to this program is not hard, just monotonous and boring. Which I'll take over difficult and painful.

I agree, I crave nutrient's for energy but no desire for food at all ( its a weird feeling) and yes, the incision pain is awful, I have this one right by my belly button that stings like its being ripped apart any time I go to sit up or bend over to tie a shoe, the others are fine. But they say the incision they pull your stomach through will be the one that hurts the worst and takes the longest to heal.

  8. How's everyone doing so far? Today is full liquid day for me and I'm tolerating my shakes pretty well. I added Miralax to my shake this morning to make sure I dont get bound up from the Protein. So far so good, the restriction is real so baby steps, still having a hard time getting 64 oz of Water daily...... Other than that I found mio drops + caffeine and B12, my program allows small amounts of caffeine daily, so I've been putting 1 drop of mio into a medicine cup mixed with water and that really gets me going in the morning. Its crazy how such small amounts hit me now.

I don't have my surgery till July 27th. However, I see where you might have thought that lol. I meant that "today was the day" for you πŸ˜‚. Sorry for the confusion, but thank you for asking!

🀣 thats funny. And your welcome hahah.

  10. Surgery went perfect according to the doc, I'm doing great, the gas pain was tolerable. Had to get up and walk a bunch and you learn real quick on what you thought was a sip is not a sip lol ..... Other than that I feel great and I'm happy its overwith.

  11. June 21st here! Its starting to get real, tomorrow we leave for our hotel since my surgery is out of town. Got my covid test done and neg results, so all good to go! Today is the last day of solid food for a while. Tomorrow only liquid. Feeling a little emotional but I know its for the best. For anyone reading this... Please keep me in your prayers, surgeries havent always gone well for me in the past and I'm trying to stay positive. πŸ’œ

  12. Congrats on your pre surgery weight loss!......its the 21st for me too! I agree the biggest struggle has been my morning coffee. I started my preop diet on the 8th because we were out of town for 2 weeks prior for a funeral and everyone wanted to take us out to dinner every night for a week so I didnt get to loose much before my pre op started. Plus I kinda wanted to divorce my bad food habbit but have that one last fling hahah. Eitherway I've been loosing an average of 1.2 lbs a day since I started.

Congrats on realizing that you have to figure this out on your own. My bf is very supportive but is resistant to eating anything healthy that I suggest for him. He's 6'6 and probably 275 but he's got a gut that looks like he's trying to shoplift a frozen turkey under his shirt! We don't live together but do spend weekends together so it's been hard to stick to the pre-op diet when we're together. I'm super proud of myself--this past weekend I cooked him supper and Breakfast and only had a little bit of the veg and a small porkchop and a shake for breakfast. Then we went to the races and he drank beer and ate a huge bag of popcorn...I had to bottles of Water. My surgery is on Friday so I don't have much longer before it's GO time! We got this!

Thats hilarious! LOL...... My surgery date is the 21st so 3 days after yours.... I'll be rootin for you and praying for a speedy recovery. ☺

I’m 9 days into a three week pre-op. I lost 5.4 pounds the first week, but I ate the post-op diet for five weeks prior. My mom started on the same day and lost 9lbs in the first few days.

my husband isn’t unsupportive just clueless. Asks me to cook food that I can’t eat or bring food to him that smells good. I’m actually sitting in a movie theater with him right now and he’s eating a flatbread pizza while I sip Water. I’ve had two Protein Shakes today. It can be frustrating.

Awww, Im sorry....that can be frustrating. When I quit smoking my husband tried to hide his smoking from me at 1st and I told him not to because I had to learn that his choices cant effect me. Psychologically I have to seperate myself from what others do. He sits on the couch next to me and eats m&m's and twinkies, popcorn etc. I'll have this breif relapse and want to eat just one kernel or m&m but have to reel myself in and come back to reality. Its a mindset that is going to have to work to save my life and im going to have to stick to if this lifestyle/journey is going to work for me. πŸ₯‚ To overcoming our cravings and being bad ass! LOL.

I have been on preop diet since May 23 and have dropped roughly 16lbs. At first, I too thought ya know I don't need surgery after all. However as the days have gone by..no way I could live on this diet in my current tummy situation. I would kill to eat a piece of steak.

I feel ya. I'd probably be sabotaging myself if this wasnt a "must do" circumstance. But the hunger Pang's do diminish after about 20 minutes. Just have to keep that in mind and space my shakes and 1 meal out evenly throughout the day.

  16. Hey everyone, day 3 of my pre op surgery diet! Anyone else loosing like crazy on their pre op? Makes me wonder If I really need to be having this surgery, then I think back to all my failed attempts to do it on my own and my weekness for all things bad, So I'm counting down the days till surgery and trying not to think about food. πŸ˜› still getting a little anxious the closer I get to the big day but I have a wonderful husband who I've been married to for 20 yrs and he's been supportive in my decision. And this group has been amazing.

My gastric bypass, hernia repair, gallbladder removal were Wednesday June 8. I got to my room on Wednesday at 3:15pm. Surgeon told my husband it was a textbook case, and I was an easy patient.
My hospital does ERAS and it was fantastic. I had Tylenol, gabapentin and a nerve block on both sides of my abdomen. And an anti nausea patch. I do not metabolize anesthesia well and I was incredibly nauseous afterwards. Phenergen helped, but not the way I needed help. My surgeon switched to a steroid/ zofran cocktail and it works.
I’m getting ready to go home as I write this. Will update. Ask me anything you want to know.

How is your gas pain??? Please keep us updated on your recovery...good bad and inbetween! I want to hear it all πŸ˜‰

Here I am on the appropriate board for a June 6 surgery date. I previously posted this on the May board. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
Anyway, my Covid test is negative. πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰
Already emailed the results to my surgeon’s office.

My 2nd oldest daughter who has gone through med school, reminded me of this:
Narcotics deprive you of your deeper stages of sleep that your body really needs to heal.

That being said, being able to use a non-narcotic will help one recover more quickly.

    πŸŽ‰2 MORE SLEEPS TIL SURGERYπŸŽ‰

Hope your surgery went well. Just noticed it was today. 😊
