OMG! Same here I'm due for a hiatal hernia repair and gastric bypass on the 27th of April. I've lost 30lbs since December 5th I was 240lbs now I'm down to 211lbs I've got another 77 to go! my whole family keeps saying you don't need the surgery youve got such willpower you've lost 13kilos already you can lose another 13 easily! BUT they don't understand that it's not about losing it's about keeping it off! I've lost many times before but put it back oh after I stopped all the hard work. I've managed to lose 13 kilos with the help of Ozempic at the same time which really helps with my hunger pangs, but I know myself the weight is just going to come back on within a couple of months once I stop using ozempic! as my weight is hereditary I put it on very easily I'm just happy that I'm losing before the surgery so it to be quicker to reach my goal weight post-surgery💪😊🙏

So I was talking to one of my best friends who had RNY a year ago. She transitioned early to purées (which we classified as cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, yogurt, etc) because she was starving. I actually started doing cottage cheese and very small amounts of baby food (apples with no added sugar) two days ago, and yogurt yesterday. I also did a tiny bowl of creamed Soup. I was starving and even tried the homemade Protein Shake. I couldn’t get it down. I think my body is done with drinkable and fruit flavored artificial food (ugh) for a while. I’d reached out to my doctors office but haven’t heard back so just decided to listen to my body. I am feeling way better now and my hunger is better controlled.

I’ve also decided that because there is no one set of standard practices across RNY for post-op diet, then that means there’s no uniform BEST practice. Doctors have their perspective but it’s not tailored to the specific patient. My husband passed away last Sept after a two year battle with brain cancer, and the one thing I learned during that time is that every doctor sees things differently. I think RNY is no exception.

All of us newbies will make it 😊

Sigh. As usual, everyone here is correct. The stall ended after three weeks. Just posting the update for other people who search stories about stalls.

I've got the one sure-fire way to avoid stalls:
Get off the scale. scales are crazy-makers. You know the saying that a watched pot never boils? Well, a watched scale never moves.
Trust your plan and the weight will come off.
    Good luck,
    Tek

Well the gurgling stomach takes a while to get used to but for me it is not hunger at all it is actually my stomach digesting. It actually starts while I am still eating. Some people do still have true hunger post op but it is only a few. If you are really hungry though some say that warm tea helps.

Don't weigh yourself right now. Just follow the process and the weight will drop off. Just because you CAN eat something doesn't mean you SHOULD. Watch your portion sizes.

It’s not normal. If you are having more than 3-4 loose or waterey stools and you are unable to keep fluids down please call your doctor. I would stick with sips of plain Water or coconut water. The sugar free stuff might contribute to the issue right now. Any abdominal tenderness outside of surgical sites and gas pains, elevated temperature, chills or sweating should also be reported to your doctor. Generally after surgery we are kinda well hydrated by the IV fluids so we don’t get in trouble with dehydration to fast. There are different meds to slow things down depending on what the doctor feels the issue is.
    Be Well,
    Tina

So good to be home. Feeling tired and a bit dehydrated but finding that tepid very weak chi tea goes down well! I am allowed to start puree food on day 2, but still only fancy jelly and yoghurt really. Having a very quiet day, snoozing, sipping, walking and reading! Just an aside…I’m reading The Midnight Library by Matt Haig…if you want a book that makes you feel at peace with the decisions you make in life (like having bariatric surgery lol) this book is incredibly wonderful! Anyone else read it?

"I love your smile!" This dude says this to me on my way into the grocery store today. And I'm thinking to myself....ok, that was odd.
Then, I get a couple more big smiles and winks and weirdness.
I asked my 80 year old mom who was with me today...."What the hell is going on? Do I look odd? Am I missing something? I'm getting strange looks."
And without hesitation, she goes.... "It's your boobs."
    "What?"
"You have a little waist and big boobs. You usually don't wear fitted shirts."
And she's right...I'm wearing a sort of snug fitted shirt. My bestie made me try it on and she said it looked awesome on me. It's not hoochie or overly tight or anything....just not something I'd usually wear.
Ok...this coming from my 80 year old mom was wild enough....but literally minutes later...some dude runs over to help me lift one of those 40 pound pails of cat litter into my cart.
"Wait, let me help you!" Mr. Helpful says, dashing over grinning like a madman.
    And I thanked him. Twice.
But I'm thinking to myself.....where the hell were you when I weighed 270 pounds and my back was killing me?
Sometimes I kind of enjoy it....but most of the time it's incredibly uncomfortable to not be as invisable anymore.
I mean, the sweet compliments and help are incredibly nice and all....but sometimes I feel gross about it. I am still a fat girl on the inside. I'm still angry and hurt that people are shallow assholes.
Any of y'all know what I mean?

Crap, I don't drink...so maybe I'll just take a hit of pot each time someone on My 600 pound life says:
    1. Miserable. (ie: my life is miserable)
    2. Switches out "my size" for "my weight"
    3. This is my last chance.
    4. "Dr. Now doesn't understand....."
    5. "Weightloss Journey"
    6. "Progress"
And TWO everytime Dr. Now says:
    1. "What happened?"
    2. "you are killing yourself."
    3. "Eating habit!"
    4. "How you all doing?"
    5. "If you need anything, let me know."
    6. "I'm proud of you!"
Take off one article of clothing each time the patient fails to meet a weight loss goal.
If it's the Penny Sager episode....just smoke the whole bowl, take ALL your clothes off, and watch in stunned silence with your mouth hanging open.

I was told that post surgery the caffeine is too harsh on your healing tummy. Said it was best to break the habit before surgery as you have enough to deal with afterwards without adding caffeine withdrawal. I drank green tea so wasn’t an issue & I was allowed to drink it after surgery too.

YES! I have a co worker having a revision with another doc in town. Her pre and post are totally different than mine. I miss coffee but it was a small sacrifice for a second chance. When you get to the other side just follow the guidelines.
    Be well!
