Possum220 reacted to Sunshine Princess in ENERGY!!!
Anyone else have boundless energy after surgery? I’m a little under a week out and my energy levels are through the roof. I haven’t felt this energized in nearly five years. I have had very little pain or soreness since getting home from the hospital. I feel kind of weird, like maybe my surgeon is a wizard or something?

Checked blood pressure. All is good. Never been on nor needed BP meds. Blood sugar good. I contacted doctor but I have just had full panel of blood work done and all was perfect. He didn’t see overly concerned. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced it. I found an article linking an increase after Bariatric surgery. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8191276/

Sometimes iron pills are not enough to address the iron deficit. I was low in iron and my doctor gave me an iron infusion (via a drip). All good after that. Your doctor will want to know that things are not better.

We call it the 3 week stall but it can occur earlier or later. Think of it as your body needing to take a breath. It’s been going through a lot. It’s like your body shutting the door & pulling the covers over its head just like you might like to do when stressed or anxious.
And yes, just stick to your plan, let your body do what it needs to do & you’ll start to lose again. Just remember it may take 1-3 weeks.

I’m very itchy. Luckily with the binder on I cannot scratch. The heating pad is so good. I’m not sleeping very well but I am taking as many naps as possible.

I had my RNY done last Monday. While the surgeon did that he also repaired a hernia for me. Afterwards the pain was horrid. I was put on a drip and not allowed to walk because my blood pressure went lower than normal. It took until Thursday until I felt reasonable and I went home Friday. When I went home my legs were horribly swollen from the drip. Thank goodness they were remarkably improved by the next day.
I have been up and looking after myself but mostly watching Netflix. Tomorrow is the first day of soft food. Mushed up baked Beans here I come.

Possum220 reacted to Sunshine Princess in Over The Shaming
I’m over society shaming people for being overweight and then when they decide to do something about it that isn’t diet an exercise, shaming them for their decision to “take the easy way out” and have surgery. I am tired of the average Joe or Jane suddenly becoming a nutritionist and a medical provider doling out useless advice we have all heard a million times before. “Just eat less!” “ Exercise more!” “Do Keto!” “Cut carbs!” THANKS NEVER THOUGHT OF IT. The amount of men going in on Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit cover model calling her obese is ridiculous. Dad bods are celebrated but a woman that doesn’t fit the classic American beauty standards are “disgusting.” And it’s always under the guise of “bUt It’S uNhEaLtHy.” No, you just can’t handle a different body type. Don’t sit there and pretend you care about health.

And then the “surgery is the east way out.” Uh no. No it’s not. Not with the amount of consultations and evaluations and testing i needed to undergo. This also was my last resort; i tried for years to lose on my own and couldn’t-not with the over 100 lbs i needed to lose. Add in pre diabetes, PCOS, depression/anxiety and it feels insurmountable. If the general public thinks surgery is the easy way out or thinks it only works for people on My 600 LB Life, they should do the liquid liver shrinking diet for a week and see how long they last. They should undergo the evaluations. They could google the requirements before saying it’s the easy way out.

But it’s easier to sit there and judge because fatphobia is more than acceptable, especially when it comes to women.

I was actually thinking about getting those 1 pound wrist weights and 3 pound ankle weights from Walmart or Target and using those when I walk. I'm not allowed to lift any weights or run until after I hit 6 weeks, but I'm wondering if wearing those would be ok just for walking. I definitely am not looking to do any damage by jumping the gun on what my surgeon said is ok, but I want to keep making progress and get in the healthiest shape I can.

Well the nurse said I might go and see the appointments clerk to see if they can reschedule in the next two weeks that way you won't ruin your Fluid diet and just do another two weeks and she comes back to say there are no appointments for the next 2 weeks so just continue eating normal. I'm just now waiting to hear from them I'm losing my motivation to be honest. I've lost a month of income in the process jeopardising my position in my job, and who's to pay for all the losses and damage in the process? all they do is send you a message apologising! it's just not good enough.

    Hi Possum,
I was quite bad for 2 days tears running down my face depressed. But better now it is what it is, and you are right, we're going to be calling them on Friday to talk to the Medical Board and see where this takes us, bc it's just gone beyond a joke! the way they don't give a damb about how it's impacting people, yo yoing and playing with us like puppets!😔

Walking, a heating pad, and having my husband run my back resulting in some burps that would cause frat boy envy has helped me with the gas pain. I also have done some gentle upper body stretching as well. My surgery was Monday and I feel great. I took a shower today and it felt like the best shower ever.

Oh man. So my plan says to do 8oz Protein Shake throughout the day (sip it). It’s 5pm and I hadn’t started it so I drank a little fast, over 30 min. My advice? Don’t be me. Ooof, the burps. My tummy saying “too fast child, too fast!” 😳😳😳

That is horrid vikingbeast. A very good word of caution to us.
I am 10 days PO. There are a few twinges and aches happening. I am not champing at the bit. I also had a hernia repaired so I am loathe to push myself before my body is ready.
The procedure that you had will be in place for the rest of your life. You have the time to go as hard as you need when your body is ready. It is the surgeon that have seen lots of people and how long our bodies take to recover. Walking is a really good thing to do to get your body headed in the right direction.

I am so sorry Merrill that this has happened for the second time. Once is bad enough but twice really stinks. Why are they even booking you in when a bed can't be guaranteed. How disappointing. No wonder you would be losing focus.
Is it possible to have a chat with the surgeon's office and let them know how this is affecting you emotionally and financially? Surely you are not the only one who is being impacted and they need to ensure that there are no more false starts. Taking care of their patients starts before the operation.
Covid really is a pain. Given that this has been the situation for the past two years time to make constructive improvements to their booking system. ((Hugs))

I had mine on the 9th. After surgery and being on IV fluids my calves and feet were swollen with Fluid. We need to let ourselves heal. I am staying away from the scales. Breathe.

This is an excellent response. Your point is so well made, articulate and concise. One would absolutely expect that after 2+ years, a better system was in place.
    Thank you for saying this.

Thanks for your well wishes🙏 we all need it I think, I've been cancelled second time was due yesterday for a RNY and hiatal hernia repair, well prepared! physically mentally & emotionally, I rock up at the hospital after fasting from 6 a.m. in the morning waiting for 1:30pm in my white gown and compression socks so I can be taken in by the anaesthetist. 2.30pm comes low and behold! one of the surgeon's approach me to give me the "bad news" that it's been cancelled due to covid cases resulting in no beds so second time round shatterd with disappointment (sigh)
Oh well life goes on, it is what it is, I guess everything happens for a reason.😕
Wishing you lots of luck on Thursday with your surgery hope everything goes smooth for you and speedy recoveries🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️
